It's always seemed strange to me that a winter sports hub like SLC didn't have a NHL team.
I hate to see the yotes leave but AZ didnt deserve a team they didnt want to support or pay for
Well they do now and Rightfully so. I think they will have great rivals with the Avs.
It's a small state with not much corporate interests. Milwaukee has a higher population and more corporate head offices and they don't have an NHL team either even though hockey is extremely popular in Wisconsin

Edmonton is an incredible city, I’ve been taking vacations to escape the Arizona heat during June, to the capital of Alberta, great food, very nice people.

The coyotes finished up their second season in a 5,000-seat arena after getting evicted from their last arena after not paying lease and were warned several times this season for not paying hotel bills
Conflict about getting a new arena built in another part of Arizona.
Just hope those wacky Smiths keep them the Coyotes. For some dumb reason they they almost think they are getting a expansion team that they can rename and reinvent that's a horrible idea!!!

I heard some rumors about that, part of the agreement of the Coyotes moving to SLC, thru the Board of Governors, is that Phoenix would be first-in-line to getting a 'new' expansion team to the current/former owner of the Coyotes Franchise if he can get a arena deal done within 5-10 years. The second part of this, if Phoenix does get a second shot of a NHL team, where would the 34th team be??? The NHL does not like having a unbalanced league...

For all we know the Coyotes could potentially stay in Phoenix and Winnipeg Jets or Vancouver Canucks move to Salt Lake City.
My grandson was the first ever Utahn to play hockey in the Olympics…
He went to Gangwon Korea in January 2024 and Team USA Won🥇GOLD!
He played in the U15’s team.

Utah is a great sports city. Jazz always have fans, RSL has great attendance for being a sport that the country doesn’t take serious, College football is always full. Even combat sports have great attendance. SLC had sold out shows for the UFC and WWE. Keep them coming!

Utah would get the Coyotes' AHL team which is the Tucson Roadrunners. So while I like the name I don't think it works. I'm pretty on about the idea of calling them the Utah Raptors.

They have to change the name, logo, colors because if the current owner is awarded an expansion team later on, then they will more than likely reuse all of it again.
Not only that, the new owner has already been asking people on social media to come up with new names for the team.
My team names for salt lake nhl. 1. Utah raptors 2. Utah hoodoos 3. Utah mammoths 4. Utah zions.

The problem here is that SLC is not a big market city. The LA's, NY's and Bostons of the world can sellout their NBA and NHL games because there's millions more ppl in those towns than SLC., What this may do to a small market city is give the sports fan a second option on what to spend money on during the NBA season which overlaps the NHL season. Do they want to see a Jazz team that may stunk or could they spend their money to see NHL hockey which would be a breath of fresh air? Many fans will have to make that decision in this economy. The fact that hockey is the best sport in person, ppl in SLC will likely fill the Delta Center, but that would come at the expense of the Jazz home attendance streak. I hope it doesnt, we'll see what happens. Utah and the NHL make perfect sense, and best wishes to that franchise, its new fans who will undoubtedly be as loyal to them as they have been to the Jazz for over 4 decades!

So just for some background. I went to school for a while in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and have been an Arizona Coyotes fan.

You’d be accepted. Plenty of non religious folks especially in Salt Lake City. I have visible tattoos and have no issues.

They’ll only get another franchise if it’s specifically in the relocation deal that Arizona is guaranteed one in a few years. If not, hate to say it, but Arizona getting another team would at least be decades at best

@chubydukskruber7969 Well, for starters, their time @ America West was a boondoggle. The fans couldn't see them from about 25% of the arena. They went bankrupt, not once, but twice, the NHL had to step in and essentially bail out their operations so they wouldn't fold. They couldn't... or wouldn't pay their lease @ Gila Bend, so they were basically forced to more into a college size arena of ONLY 5,000 PEOPLE. Then they couldn't get their desired regular sized arena agreed to or built. So yeah, that sounds pretty inept to me. I just their not in for a redux @ Delta Center if it means doing some temporary renovations before building their new arena in SLC. Or else they'd be shooting themselves in the foot again.

It's very bittersweet for me. I've always dreamed of a Utah team, and they're getting a roster full of young talent I adore, but it's coming at the cost of a team I loved, and I have a lot of friends

Yeah I agree. I think for the Jazz the fact that jazz music isn’t really relevant in the state of Utah kind of makes the team name more unique and interesting so I think having the team be called the Utah Coyotes would sound really cool.

It's location is right in the middle between Las Vegas,Denver,Seattle. Vancouver,Edmonton,Calgary and not that far from the 3 California teams or even Dallas. For the NHL it's a perfect road trip fit for the existing Western Conference teams.
