Bought it again after a long time. Owned and flew 4 ships. 1850 hours in gliders. 5 years in Naval Air 800 hours there…blah blah.blah…just love to fly even when I cannot anymore. You keep me really entertained. Live in Oregon…grew up in Woodstock just up the road from you.
Hi Brian. I enjoyed the video very much. I purchased my ASW-17 last November and only started flying it recently. It thermals so well in SW Texas. I start flying in the morning after I see the turkey vultures flying. I then know that the thermals are present. The ASW-17 is a great plane. After flying it a few times, I added some bright orange stripping on the wings' top and some blue stripes on the wings' bottom and stabilizer. My ASW-17 is setup with AVIAN Smart 45A ESC, the Spektrum 3200 4S 30C battery with the AR637T + the GPS module. All the telemetry is a dream! I also use Bluetooth earbuds to hear the audibles being announced. The custom settings for the different colored telemetry screens on the iX-20 are unbeatable!
I have learned so much from watching your videos. Please keep going!! The videos are never too long.
Awesome! I didn't realize you could hear the vario on ear buds with the IX20!!! That's pretty cool! Can you hear it AND music simultaniously???
This is an excellent post. Well done
Great video, just a tip. It's best to power up your servos and check your trim, and sub trim are zero. This way, you can check that your servo horn is in the correct position and doesn't need rotating before you attach the control surfaces. The other small thing was when you described the gain settings for the AS3X setup, you used the word oscillation to describe the case when the gain is to high. I believe the correct word for this is hysteresis. Really enjoyed all the detailed video.
Brian, you and your wife have the best arrangment where you can go out your front door and launch your plane your so lucky. I envy you wish I had that kind of set up, I love that Glider it looks and flies awesomme. You have a great day.
great job ! your videos are the best. Thanks from an Old Guy just getting back into rc after 50 years away
Welcome back Timm!
Just ordered one using your link! Can't wait!
Thanks Jeffrey!
The quality of the prefabricated kits in EPP are always more elaborate. The future is bright. I like the steel wing key and the wing can be disconnected with a single click. The rigidity of the model as you have demonstrated is impressive
for a model of this dimensions. Thank you Brian.
You will like to see my "Second Thoughts" Video on this plane...I demonstrate the strength of the air frame even better in this upcoming flight.
Interesting Brian, I'll be sure to interest myself
Just recently started watching your videos and it quickly reignited my childhood desire to get into this hobby, so about a week ago I got a turbo timber 1.5m and a dx6e and loving it so far. We have an extremely large horse pasture with no real obstructions so learning to fly has been a breeze, definitely not ready for any acrobatics tho, definitely want to thank you for the informative videos showing the build processes and radio setup, they have been extremely helpful to get me up to speed with the basics.
I'm so glad you started watching Isaac! We're glad you're here with us now, and hope you'll be around with us for a long time!!! Get ready to buy more foam that you ever realized you couldn't live without ;)
The two wire accessory that came with the 637T is for battery pack voltage telemetry. Wire the bare leads into the aircraft battery connector, especially if you’re changing out the battery plug anyway. You can wire it straight or use JST connectors. Next, plug the other end into the VOLT socket on the 637T receiver and run the telemetry auto config. Now you can set up your transmitter to display and provide warnings and notifications of your flight pack pack voltage.
Thank you for the information! I should have known, and will now!
Hi there Brian and crew . I'm new to your channel, and seen some of your builds.I find your videos to be honest, also very insightful. Wondering if your viewers get any special discount buying through your channel? If so, where can I locate on your page? I really like the NX6 AR637T and FMS ASW-17 / 2.5M set up!
You are having way too much fun! Grandpa would have loved seeing all these great toys.
Yes he would have ;) Very fortunate we had an opportunity to share this experience for a few years before he passed. He is missed!
Thanks for doing this one. These gliders aren’t covered enough. I love these. They’re so beautiful to watch.
I agree ;)
Secret for you - I have TWO coming in the next few weeks!!!! Stay tuned :)
I agree, I am just getting into the glider world, and would love to see more of it too, especially with the technical side explained.
Love the channel! Camera crew is hands down the internets best! She does an amazing job! You guys are a great team!
Thanks so much! We appreciate the kind words. We work really hard to get good footage and help guide people when deciding what planes to consider. I'm very lucky my wonderful wife and "camera crew" puts up with all this!!!
Brian you're truly blessed to have such an awesome camera crew . 📸📸📸👊😍
Yes I am!
Hello Brian, I just wanted to say I am very pleased with your reviews and flying. As a fellow modeler I appreciate your honest reviews, and comments which help me decide on my model purchases. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Michael! We're glad you're enjoying the content, and we're glad your here in support of our channel - Thanks!
Been waiting for this review ! I just got this myselfand can't wait to get it up in the air !
Awesome - Do it now!!! It's totally sweet! I had no idea what to expect and was really blown away with the quality of the plane! It's still out in my entryway, and my wife hasn't made me "put it away" yet, so I'm loving seeing it. I have to move it up to get to the front door, since it's so HUGE ;) Good problem to have!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC It really is. I know you had some issues with getting the flaps assigned. I like the NX6 but is it a good fit as far as a transmitter was concerned ? I'm planning (like you) to pair it up with the AR637T (which is on b/o on Horizion right now).
What a gorgeous bird. Love sailplanes. Have had several throughout the years. No electric motors when I flew them. They were either towed up or used a hot shot.
Thanks for expanding the as3x and safe. This is my next plane and first pnp. All of the information is super helpful to me.
You're welcome William! Glad you're here with us. We'll try to get you up to speed ASAP!!!
Those extra two wires are to hook up to your power so it will give telemetry back to your transmitter for your battery voltage very handy to have if you don't have a smart ESC
Yeah, sorry older video, I've since used it a few times.
Way to Awesome ! Great video Brian ! NOW I know my next plane/sailplane..... Thanks for reviewing this for us man. Thanks camera crew also .....
You bet! You should definitely!!! this plane is GREAT! You don't have to "do anything" to make it amazing - it just IS ;) !!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC The best thing Brian is that you showed us how to set it up, I'm going to get me one and watch your video and follow along with you.... I can't wait.... Awesome ... Thanks again... you are the best..
I love your videos man, thanks for all the helpful information. Just got my ASW 17, can’t wait to get out and fly it.
Thanks! Good luck David - AMAZING PLANE!!!
That is a huge glider, looking forward to the maiden. 👍🏻
The maiden is in this video... did you watch the flight?
Good video, seems a great sport sail plane, might just pick one up
I think so! Some have complained it's a bit too heavy for thermaling, but I guess I don't really do that much anyway. I would love to slope soar with it though!!!
I'm dying to meet "camera crew," she seems like the coolest wife ever to be so involved in the hobby along with you, if only my girl found it near as interesting as her. Lol. Your a Lucky man Brian, she's a keeper
She's been featured in the A380 build series. She prefers to be on the "other" side of the camera ;)
She's on the Crescendo Evolution build video making Brian's dinner. Nice kudos BTW Brian. I have to agree you have an awesome partner in life. All my best to you both!
She has skills for sure, also what camera do you have her using. I need to upgrade my setup and would appreciate some guidance for a good but inexpensive camera.
4:12 whoops, cleanup on the flight line... cloths- pin deployment suggested... that was no rooster Brian 🤩BB
LOL - Lapel mic didn't pick it up ;)
Good review nice glider that's how I started out flying RC and learn how to fly r c
Full scale, or RC flying?
Finally, I've been waiting forever, an FMS plane!
....and you'll get more too!
The sound of the beast is awesome Love it Brian Camera Crew 🔥👍✌️
Absolutely, but the mics didn't hardly pick it up ;(.... Oh well, you'll have to get one to fully experience it for yourself ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Oh do I wish lol ✌️
This video pleases me greatly.
I was ALSO greatly pleased with it ;) I LOVE THIS PLANE!!! More sailplane action coming soon!!! Stay tuned!!!
Love your videos just getting back in rc flying just got the air tractor.
You'll love that plane! It's so pretty, and flies GREAT! Isn't it amazing the features packed into these FOAM please??!?!? I would have NEVER guessed I'd be reviewing them back in my younger days, when I was running RC-10's ;)
Great video I enjoyed watching it and learning about flaperons and setup. I’m interested in a sailplane like this but more interested in the no power gliding type flying. Thank you!
Great tutorial on the NX series with safe setup. As usual you checked all the boxes in another Phillips production.
Much appreciated!!!
Very nice presentation. thks !
So nice of you - Thanks!
Brian, I love your enthusiasm and commentary.. You have to get a 10 cell 8,000 watt F5B/Hotliner..I know they are expensive (about two grand all said and done) but you would be completely blown away flying one and your video would be epic. You need to contact Yuri Virchenko on RCG and get a Virage from him, all your other gliders will be dust collectors after you do that, I guarantee it
Some day Darrell.....some day ;) Can't wait for that day!!!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Based on watching your flying skills, you are more than ready
Brian, check out this vid.. Virage on 10s with 17x26 prop. ua-cam.com/video/9kYZTfoOoR8/v-deo.html
Lol, size does matter. Great job guys, thank you.
Sure does!!!
Happy Thankgiving to your growing family.
Hey everyone. Buy your Black Friday Horizon deals through Brian's link.
It's the least we can do for all the time his entire family gives to us. I am back in this hobby because Brain and Family made it easy to fly and fix. Radio set ups.
Thanks again.
Thanks Terry! Happy Thanksgiving to you too! We're here because of a great audience, and the support we get back from you all!!! We wouldn't have a channel or the opportunities we're living out if it weren't for such an awesome group of people on the other end of the internet :)
Hi Brian I found you on UA-cam today. The detail you put into your films so valuable. I test fly my fms ASW17 tomorrow I started flying last February. I use spectrum 6E and could copy your rates ect as you know when first start it's not easy getting to know right settings. My next model fms pitts so be looking into detail with that one too. I like you test fly them first as well. Looking forward to further films cheers.
Have fun! Glad you found us! We have something like 1350 videos up for you. If you watch all of them, that should burn through most of your retirement funds ;) Tell you boss to thank me later - LOL!
Welcome to the addiction!!!
P.S. Lee - This plane is AWESOME, and quite "easy" to fly. MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR FLAPS SETUP!!! You'll want them to land, otherwise you'll be landing in the next state over - LOL!
Ice crystals in the atmosphere form that rare event. Cool to catch one.
Yeah, and it was pretty! I will catch this one when I'm more well versed with it's stall speed, so I can keep from damaging the wing connections.
Well, you smooth talked me into one! I tried using your link but unfortunatly I had to buy directly from FMS as Horizon was out of stock untill Febuary 2023. Better luck next time.
FMS bit.ly/3JG0lU3
finally a glider :D good job!
Get ready for more ;) I have an old one I never got flying too, that I just NEED to get it out and fly it....
@@BrianPhillipsRC oh yeah
I don't think I know anyone who loves planes as much as u Brian 😄👍 Do you enjoy any other RC platforms? Cars /trucks/boats ect
Sure, I do enjoy cars and trucks too, but boats not until we have a pond ;)
I just flew a plane for the 1st time 2 weeks ago. Now I’m watching your video thinking about getting this.
So like for millennials, gen z , etc who game can probably fly a plane like me 1st try.
Around 1:18:00 you talked about how long it takes to learn to fly. I feel like most gamers can fly immediately and fly well.
Just food for though. I think we will see a huge boost in hobbies as gamers learn their skills transfer.
This does not apply to mouse & key gamers obviously but the 100 million console players already have an advantage!
Hey I love you and your lady’s energy and vibe! Super cool to see a couple working together on UA-cam.
Much love, I subbed (: 🕺💯
Okay, I would love to see you be 100% correct, but when you get up in the air and realize you're in control of this teeny tiny object that can hit you in the balls (eye-balls) you might have second thoughts, so maybe consider a beginner plane FIRST, and you can thank me for saving your balls (eye-balls) later ;) LOL

Y’all are awesome! Keep up the great work!
Hey Brian, from what I can tell the orange 🍊 display is only readable indoors, but when the display is viewed outdoors the ambient sunlight negates any contrast between the text and the background color... the orange colored screen appears darkened relative to the ambient outdoor light even in partial shade 😎 please inform your "Camera Crew"...
We have new camera gear, and seems to be better about saturation. Hopefully you agree.
Just a suggestion, regarding the main wheel is to replace the hard stock 2 inch one with a DuBro low bounce wheel... with the addition of a few small washers, it appears to significantly reduce initial touch down bounce! It can be purchased either through Horizon Hobby (DUB200T) or your local Hobby store. 😀
Nice! In fact, I have an odd 4th from when we reviewed and installed such tires on the Viper 70mm...so I could take your very good advice! Thanks James!
You may not know this and i didnt know until today but xt60 and ec3/ic3 will fit each other, also same with xt90/ ic5
I like to use a knob for flaps so I can get variable flaps instead of a full deflection.
Cool! Sounds like a sail plane setup ;)
Nice sailplane but the crescendo is way more nimble and much faster and def more aerobatic
The Conscendo Evolution - It's a GREAT plane too, no doubt, but not a super good comparison, since this plane is well over twice the size ;)
I hope you get a chance to fly one (actually BOTH), they are both great!
I got the new 8-channel and awesome 10 channel receivers.
One's going to have full House the other one's going to have full house plus head tracking capability
That's awesome - Very cool!
Very easy build...very involved transmitter setup. Entertaining video with all the (Unrated) comments and cat antics. Can't believe the camera puts up with NO flowers. Hehe
Glad you enjoyed it Flowers are coming!!! Don't give up on me JACK!
Thanks for helping me set up my plane. However you had me so confused at the end. Fliping AS#X over here than over there.....I dont even know whats going on with as3x now! Please slow down a little....do this video over
Man that things sounds great out of throttle high speed passes.....if you have time to thermal ...you have time for a nap
For those who would prefer to purchase the voltage adapter, HH/Spectrum has a pre-made one... Telemetry Battery Voltage Sensor: EC3/IC3 Item No. Spektrum - SPMA9556
I love it is a very nice video:)😻
I'm glad you like it! Thanks
Thanks for the detailed informative video!
How does it handle wind?
Very well, but it's a well built plane. Only issue is it's NOT a super LIGHT plane. I'll take sturdy over super light....since I seem to have a lot of trees jumping out from nowhere lately - LOL ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks for the info! ;)
Seems like it should be a good fpv cruiser
Hi Brian, excellent video. I bought the FMS ASW-17 and the AR637T receiver. I only have DX6e transmitter and I do not know if I can get the glider ready to fly, I think the receiver AR637T is very complex to program. I have the Conscendo Advanced and Evolution and everythings was easy to get to fly them. I think a simpler receiver would have been better for the FMS ASW-17.
I guess I'm not 100% sure you can do Forward Programming from the DX6e, but only because I don't have one. You will need to do FORWARD PROGRAMMING. Have you tried to update the FIRMWARE on your DX6e? I had to do that on my DX18 Gen1 to get FORWARD PROGRAMMING.
@@BrianPhillipsRC, thanks for your response. I have the last firmware on my DX6e and according to Spektrum tutorials, the DX6e transmitter is compatible with the AR637T receiver. I'll try to program my DX6e for the FMS ASW-17 and I'll see what happens.
Brian,
I noticed in your video that plane had wing tip guards/protectors. Do have a recommendation on what and where to buy some.for Carbon Cub S2. I thought of using some medium thickness clear tap. Thank you ahead of time for your answer and for the informative videos.
They're installed from the factory. I love that they're on there, since these wings WILL drag on the ground on landings.
If you want to make something like this, I've found that plastic soda bottles or sports drink bottles will work well...just cut off a corner that has a favorable shape, and glue it on the bottom side of the wingtips, and you're ready to rock and roll (pun intended - LOL)!
@@BrianPhillipsRC 😁
I need to add some color to bottom of wings and tail, (for visibility), what paint works best on this type foam without adding any weight or eating the foam?
Just do BLACK TAPE...works AWESOME, and you can change it out easy... Electrical tape works good, but it IS heavy...it also holds up good to dragging of landings.
Great channel and your videos is great! Will your setup work on a DX6? Do you have a spm. file for download?
No file for download, and should work on DX6. Follow along with my setup and you'll be golden ;) Make sure you have your firmware up to date so you have Forward Programming, btw
Brain the ASW17 flyes great I got flaps just right for landing. I get powerd Bird of time and FMS Pitts next month. I found Phoenix Berfalke ARF 330cm wing span have a look up im saving for that in spring time looks so nice and be a thermal beast next summer
Very nice! I want it BADLY!!!
They make a Ka8 too - I WANT IT BAD!!!!!!!
Thanks 👍 Good video very intertenin ! 👍😷😷😷
Glad you enjoyed it! thanks!
That's a fun glider !
It is awesome!!! I had an opportunity to fly with Esteban, my buddy and infrequent cameo on the channel, the other day, and he thought it was AWESOME too!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Totally!
Wonderful video ! What do you thing about the quality compare to the volantex phoenix 2400 ?
Does the motor get super hot on it after giving it a hard flight?
Surprised to hear you say this is more of a regular glider than the Conscendo Evolution.as it looked like a hotliner in the video. The Conscendo is great fun, but not for thermaling. The Night Radian is the thermaling glider. It sounds like this plane would be between the two?
Not sure about the radian, since I don't have one, so I shouldn't say.
This is like the age of radio. We hear your wife and thats it. She should fly and you film. At least once.lol love this channel.
Trying to get this video...but she's not into it ;(
Don’t force people to do what you would like them to do.
Let them do what they like to do !
@@michelpetrus it was a suggestion!
@Brian Phillips
The ASW17 is a German glider by "Axelander Schleicher"
HAHA - I knew it!!! Except I didn't until now ;) Thanks Benny!
Hi Brian ! hope you will answer my question, it's really important ! on my fms asw 17 I have two pushrod , one for the elevator , and the other one for the rudder! so one of the pushrod is a little bit bigger than the other one ! which one goes with the elevator ? the small one or the big one ? thank you !
All through this video I keep hearing Short Round from the Indiana Jones movies saying, "Mr. Phillips, yoo so nasty, yoo funny". Keep it up! Pun and inuendo intended. lol
We'll keep them coming ;)
I get it! 😊
This poetry in flying Brian!!!!!!!! I fly mine in about 10mph wind and is handling it great! Do you have a max limit for wind? I use 2200mah batteries and I do about 5 min to be safe. I think I heard you saying you use 3200mah and you are flying this for about 10+ min. I am thinking to buy a 5200mah 4S 50C battery to use, do you think it will tip of the GC? I fly it with SAFE (i.e. FrSky's version for the Archer SR8 Pro receiver that I use) and the leveling should take care any front loading. Any advice you can spare? Many thx! Leo
That pack will be HUGE in this plane. I doubt it'll fit....have you considered making a parallel lead in stead, and getting two smaller packs? This would allow for super long flight times, and more CG flexibility.
As always, awesome video...Will the DX6e transmitter work with this model?
Yes it will, but not sure if you can run FORWARD PROGRAMMING on the DX6e...if so, you'd want to get a different Rx than what we used. We link to a few choices.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I'm thinking of adding flaps to my Crescendo Evolution. Are you still going to add them to yours like the old one? and if so will you make any changes to the design? Still binging on all your videos. My wife is starting to wonder about me lol
Nice video:)
Thanks again!!!
That whooshing sound ... WOW!
It is awesome, but the mics didn't hardly pick it up ;(... It was louder in person, but some of my sailplanes have, honestly, been louder...this one was very CLEAN ;) Love this plane!!!
Hi Brian, Great to see your vlogs.
I juist bought an ASW-17 with a RC NX8. I'm not sure which receiver I'll take.
AS3X is my preference but I'm not sure if I will take the Spektrum AR8360T because of the SAFE or the AR637T.
Do you have a suggestion?
If you get the AR637T you'll have VARIO...but if you don't plan to use it, you could just get the AR631 and save a few bucks.
AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c
AR637T bit.ly/3pW3u86
BOTH are AS3X and SAFE equipped, if you choose to use them.
Hello Brian and Mrs Megan aka camera crew. Sailplanes are awesome. Enjoyed the asw 28 videos. Been looking at that plane. Now we need a comparison video of both. How are you liking the nx radios? Thinking of the nx 10 or 8 for myself using an dx8 for now. But do like the dx9 black. As always well done. Thanks for the video keep flying you guys.
Totally! The NX has been GREAT! I was nervous, afraid of wasting a bunch of time "learning" a new setup...NOTHING of the sort here...it's been almost NO learning curve, except for setting up the Wifi, and figuring out the voice feedback, something I didn't have on the DX18.
Bravo...what is max..flight range..
I saw this comment over at HH website. What say you about his point on CG (or the other points he makes)?
The good: High quality EPO finish; assembly is super easy with all snap-on surfaces; set-up as full-house with vario; feels solid and looks impressive in the air; floats and thermals easy; no visible wing flex during loops or sharp turns; great whooshing sound;
The bad: GC in the manual is wrong (too tail heavy - almost crashed on maiden flighRead more about review stating Assembly and first flight impressionst); moved 4S 2600 battery forward to center-of-straps position and it flies great; no flap set-up in the manual - needs 20-30% down elevator with full flaps to counter ballooning; all-white design is scale, but makes it hard to maintain visual orientation at high altitude - I painted stripes on the bottom of the wings; slightly underpowered - plan ahead when using throttle as there is a bit of inertia to overcome.
I don't recall having any issues...but sometimes the factory forgets a ball bearing for ballast on planes, and this might have been what happened to this reviewer, I wonder???
True about the white too...paint a wing or two black on the bottom, or tape it...this will help immensely.
I don't recall a terrible ballooning with flaps, but honestly can't remember.
That is SWEEEET!
Agreed!!! This plane is one that I accidentally found, and can't believe how well done it is! More FMS planes coming soon!!!
Under ideal conditions what’s the maximum flight time you can get out of this plane?
I will not answer this, since flying for longevity is a whole sport in and of itself... you just have to play with it.
Put some fluorescent/neon orange sticky tape to the bottom of one wing and the top of another wing.
That would be cool!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I put neon/fluorescent orange everywhere I can on my helicopters except for my scale helicopters.
Sorry, if this was asked prior, have you has any issue with wing locking pins wearing out? I killed my Conscendo Evolution via my own ignorance to not recheck CG when going from 3s to 4s, and the nose was way too heavy, not enough elevator authority to slow down enough for a good landing. Cracked the front half of fuse right off. :( THere goes $240.00. Onto the next. This is beautiful, but leaning towards the Fox. Thoughts on quality on this vs FOX?
On my Conscendo Evo, I broke my tail off on the 3rd or 4th flight, and had it glued back and flying in maybe 1 hour... Mine was a failed landing catch attempt - OOOPS!
As for the Fox, I have never taken the wings off, so I don't want to mislead you in any way. They seem solid, but as with anything in the foamy arena...nothing really lasts forever :(
Quality on the Fox is VERY good. Better than the Conscendo, but it's more too...as it should be.
ASW17 2.5m bit.ly/3nLuFjU
AR637T bit.ly/3pW3u86
I LOVE this plane, but some have complained it's too heavy - I don't think this, but some like to Thermal. I don't do it much, so not an issue. I prefer a stronger plane, that will slope nicely.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you for replies. It's tough to transition back into flying foam electrics after flying nearly three decades of balsa and glow fuel. ;) Not to mention, being a bit rusty . All good stuff though. Your channel has been my go to though.
You are super, your videos are so amazing and I learn stuff al the time, build and fly and set up. But for me as beginner is a jungle ut there, so your videos helping me out. so Brian i just got mine, how do you take the wings off the asw 17.? love your vids.
You just push those two clippy-thingys in toward each other, and rotate the wing forward and backward a bit to release them... then pull straight out, and you're set! It's a 2 second process, but with a second person, it's WAY easier.
I have the same plane and receiver. Crow and camber can be set up using what you have. Suggest you do a search for a video on UA-cam for "DX6: How to set up Crow & Camber on ANY 5 or 6 channel plane". Could post the link if you want.
If you use AS3X, I'd like to see how that's done.
Your statement implies that crow could not be set up on 6 channels, as does your demo. It can be done with a 6 channels receiver without AS3X at a cost savings of about $60.
VERY NIIIECE...!!!
Nice kite bit like my night flyer on a windy day you will get an hour when you chop the throttle. 2 things FACE TO CAMERA STRAPPED TO YOUR BACK WITH THE IMMORTAL WORDS
TO INFINITY AND BEYOND
2nd
CAMERA CREW WASN'T ALL THAT IMPRESSED WITH THE SIZE MATTERS QUOTE... YOU MIGHT NEED TO WORK ON YOUR TECHNIQUE hahahhahahha
Great VID your going to have bags of fun on a windy day
Brian
Stay well
I can't wait to see her on a hill! It's gonna be totally amazing! She's not a super light plane, but slope soaring ships are okay a bit heavier ;)
Thanks Brian
Hi
Never had a problem setting brakes on a esc.
Bit for some reason not working for me.
Using a tactic650
I've done it the way it says.
Maybe brake isn't working for some reason.
Thanks any help appreciated
Should be super easy.... Plane unplugged. Transmitter on. Throttle FULL....carefully plug in the battery on the plane. When the songs start, throttle down. Mine was set when I opened it.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian got it all figured out.
Had to calibrate it first.
Regarding the asw17 glider. Today I had a mishap. After a climb I closed the throttle for descent and things got ugly. A popping noise first followed by flying away canopy. Able to land and upon inspection one prop blade broke the attachment to the hub, and the plastic piece that secure the canopy to the locking device was still secured. Please add glue to that piece, also programming the esc for softer brake could have prevented the brake. I think that when the blades fold back hit the canopy dislodging it and causing the breakdown. Disappointed with fms.
Sorry to hear this happened. I've had other folding props fail, but very surprised to hear about your mishap. Did you ask FMS to help you out?
Wow. Nice! I have the night radian and love it. Where about is this? Michigan?
Central Iowa ;)
Hello Brian, I have a question for you. FMS-ASW-17 or the FMS FOX 2300MM what model would you did you like best? Thanks!!!
ASW-17 - hands down - just a better plane, not that the FOX can't be amazing, but you'll want to get up to the 3m for a great experience.

@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you, Sir.
Brian you need to get into FPV, it would be awesome to see around your house and your camera crew from the plane....
I can't legally use aerial footage without a 107 exception from the FAA - What a freaking joke, right??!?!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Wait what? How come, if you don't mind me asking?
Do you have a final Flaps 10 and Flaps 30 elevator mix amounts?
I don't recall, and so sorry for this, as it's been a long time since I've flown her.
Brian what is "vario"? I have heard you mention it in other videos, but I can't find it in the AR637T manual.
Vario is a VARIOMETER or a barometer based ALTITUDE measurement tool which will communicate the vehicles change in altitude, and rate of change. This is accomplished with beeps in higher or lower pitch, and this helps you know when you're ascending or descending. This is a REAL thing in REAL planes, as well as gliders and in paragliding (I do powered paragliding - PPG)
Thanks Brian!
I appreciate you and your wife's dedication to your channel and our hobby. For you to respond to a question on a two-year-old video is amazing. Most youtubbers would view a question like that as water under the bridge and not respond.
Brian, I'm interested in what you think about the NX6 radio and why you didn't wait to get the NX8 or 10. Is the NX6 enough radio for you considering you went, I believe, with a top of the a top of the line Specktrum DX?
I think the NX6 is going to be great for most people "just getting into the hobby" with the 7th channel, it's GREAT for those who want to run a BNF plane with flaps and retracts, AND SAFE SELECT...which is really nice!!!
Also the 8 and 10 are back ordered ;( I WILL be getting a 10 at some point, and hopefully it doesn't end up being a wash - that would be annoying - LOL
Isn't switch d Normally for flaps? Personal preference for you? Fordward programming is decent. I have many planes with that receiver. Cool sailplane, Just might sell some of my ups stock for one lol.
"D" is the switch they use, but I hate that spot for flaps. I use "B" since I have a hard time getting to "D" when I'm flying.
As for selling UPS Stock to get one...you could surely pick a worse time to sell it, give it's at a near all time record high ;) and then there's only 2.39% dividends :(... Maybe just sell it and get some DIA
Brian, thanks so much for this video! Very helpful and informative! I purchased this plane and a DX6 transmitter a few weeks ago, and was able to get it put together, bind it with the transmitter, and configure all the transmitter and channel parameters from the instructions with your video. My DX6 transmitter was virtually identical to your NX6 in terms of setup. My only question is regarding monitoring the battery level in the plane. The battery monitor on the main screen of the transmitter is for the transmitter battery level, but is there a way to monitor the plane's battery level - or is that what you use the timer for? Thanks, --Michael
DX6 Gen2???
Also, depends on if you have the AR631 (no) or AR637T (YES)...
If the latter, and you used the red and black wire with 1S connector from the Discharge Lead, then you're golden...You may have to just setup the telemetry. There's a menu that says "Auto-Config" and you'll see Flight Pack Voltage as one of the parameters. You can also setup audio events for alarms or updates.
Good luck!
I think we showed this process in the Fox 3m possibly...if not in this video
@@BrianPhillipsRC My receiver is the AR631, so I assume no is the answer. Transmitter just says DX6, nothing about Gen 1 or 2. I just bought it a month ago, but that may not make a difference. Thanks for the quick response!!!

What's your favorite between FMS ASW-17 and Multiplex Funray?
I picked up the NX8 and seriously thinking if getting this bird. Did you ever figure out the crow? And is this SPMAR637T receiver still the best option?
If you have an AR637T OR AR630 - it is SOOOOOO simple. I JUST did it on my NEW FMS Fox 2.3m - watch that Unbox, Build, and Radio Setup and you can copy what I did.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thx for getting back! Funny you answered my next question. I've watched the configuration on the ASW 10x and thought to myself~I wonder if the Fox would work the same? it seemed far less complicated. I will be sloping 50% but love the vario function for thermals. I ordered DRACO on 3/23 and just missed the first round. Looks like you've been having some fun with Big Red.
You're the best!
Brain, I can't decide on this glider or the fox 3000. I'm interested in being able to do aerobatics but also just sail. I already have 6S5000mah packs for my larger models so I would have to invest on smaller packs. Any suggestions?
Both are great. I think the FOX is more impressive, but it's an expensive plane! I prefer the looks of the ASW-17, but the FOX is just AWESOME to see. They both break down super fast, and easy...
I'd say, the ASW-17 has a super razor thing edge on flight performance, for MY style, but the Fox is just a lot bigger, so the power to weight seems to be a bit less...
Hope these thoughts help you make your decision.

@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks for the reply Brian and all your great work. I do agree that the Fox is just an awesome eye candy for sure and does pack a price behind it. This helped out alot. Thanks for the suggestions keep them videos coming.
Will the DX6E work with a telemetry receiver? ( vario )
I don't know, since I don't have one, but I imagine they will if you update the firmware. I'm sorry to leave you hanging on this one Steve!
This plane looks sweet. I love that the build was really easy. Do you think that a glider needs AS3x, or do you prefer the piece of mind as a matter of preference? Also, I am running the AR630 on my SZD-54, do you have any suggestions for adding vario to the setup?
If you want Vario, get the AR637T - that one is equipped with full telemetry and AS3X/SAFE that can be turned on and off depending on how you set it up.
Do you NEED AS3X??? Probably not, but I like the feature. SAFE I don't use hardly ever, but I try to show how to set it up nowadays since I'll get about 50 questions per video about it, if I don't.
@@BrianPhillipsRC fair enough. Thanks for the speedy replay, and if you can think of a separate module for vario instead of switching out the rx let me know. Keep up the great work!
How your wife let you doing this in HER kitchen is beyond me…LOL. I would be dead meat…Great job you 2. I laughing my ass off
Yes, it is a miracle ;)
