Love the way you re-used the packing to make a transport box. Great flying as usual👍🏻
The good thing with powered gliders is especially if you are a park flyer ,is that you have more flexibility on landing ,if dogs come across you can just power up and you are in the clouds ,with a normal plane 10-15 mins you are looking for a landing ,if the battery is low you have one chance ,with the glider you could practice 100 landing approaches and fly for an easy 60mins on one battery ,and if you are slope soaring in decent lift ,you can push that up to 2hrs ,or until you start to nod off or your neck gives up
I would like to see a video showing how you made that modification to the plane's box. It doesn't have to be a long one, just show some closeups of the box and talk a little bit about it... That would be really appreciated... I just finished putting mine together, and will maiden fly her soon... I'm waiting for good weather here in SouthernArizona... I bought this glider from FMS and agree with your comments.
It's really a very pleasant glider to fly and I think FMS has made a very good product.
I actually mix the spoilers and the elevator to remedy the rise of the glider when we take out the spoilers.
I also painted black lines on the lower surface and red on the upper surface that allows me to see clearly which way it is in flight away from view.

You can make it much more reactive and fun mixing ailerons with flaps working same direction. It needs separation of ailerons channel but it works.....faster 4 points....vertical wall ...depends on motor and structure’s rigidity .You can mix ailerons with rudder to avoid nose up on slow rollings.....You can even do one or two thermal phases with 3-5 mm down flaps to catch thermals. And obviusly you can set a butterfly for short landings on slope.
I really like the red stripes you added to the wings. A small detail that makes a big impact and looks awesome. I really want one of these, or the 3m Fox
Just smashed my 3.5 glider, 2 months Building and 2 min flying time, after trying to sit into my lawn chair and falling with my radio. Purchased FMS asw17 , what a glider well thought out never again will I build a glider. Well done ASW17.

Just a suggestion, regarding the main wheel is to replace the hard stock 2 inch one with a DuBro low bounce wheel... with the addition of a few small washers, it appears to significantly reduce initial touch down bounce! It can be purchased either through Horizon Hobby (DUB200T) or your local Hobby store. 😀

One thing that they don't tell you is that you can fly a glider almost anywhere, even the beach. That's because everyone loves the look of a glider, and they'll come and tell you so. Just don't fly it like a stunt plane, you need to learn elegant, beautiful, smooth changes of direction and forget the bank-and-yank approach. Oh, and don't forget to take a chair, you'll get a minimum of 30 minutes per flight, probably a lot more.
Great video Rich. This thing snaps together super easy. I'll see how it compare to my volantex 2.6M gliders.

Is FMS ever make a glider with an EDF .that will hideaway into the fuselage .. I've seen one on a real size glider that would be cool to make 1 in a model.....
I like to come up with innovative ideas.. putting a e d f.. on top of a glider would be just trick.. have it where you get to your altitude you can retract the EDF back into the fuselage... It will look more realistic than having a prop on the front... And the possibilities are just unlimited... You can go with bigger edf's more power and just imagine the flight time would just be impeccable.. I guess inventions is a mother of necessity.. thank you all out there I love to get creative album flying jets planes and gliders the hobby is just awesome..!!

Hey Rich, what did you decide was optimal CG for ASW - 17...?
Most all gliders ( in my opinion) needs black on the bottom of wing and elivator, and orange ( floresent preferably) on top of both.

Great flying glider even though I am a novice. Find a comfortable seat. It stays in the air! I had to stripe and color mine. Very hard to see in all white. Very happy with it.

Very nice video. I like that glider ... FMS did things right with some support from a Swiss RC champion ... but did not invent the plastic leading edges ... Multiplex did so on their Funray.

Pretty much like a bit radian with flaps and ailerons ,i have the night radian and this seems a good next glider ,plus its an FMS ,quality gauranteed

I have information on which color of vinyl trim is appropriate for the FMS ASW-17... TOPQ4102 Monokote "International Orange" and TOPQ4106 "Insignia Blue" which I believe can be purchased through "Horizon Hobby"

It should be great for it. It's a super stable platform. However, I have not done a lot of FPV, so I'm probably not the best person to ask.

Rich, I'm trying to decide on which one to go with, this model or the fox 3000. I'm looking for aerobatic capabilities but then on some days just the glide, which model would you suggest. I am already using 6S 5000mah packs on my other models so I would have to purchase plane, rx, and batts for the asw if I went that route.

I can't comment on the asw28 because I have not had one. The FMS ASW-17 is outstanding. Mostly, I like the full-length leading edge sheathing that protects the leading edge on the ASW-17.... Most models do not have that & it is a very high-end feature that will make the model last longer.

Hi I finally bought the spider after watching your videos I love it, One thing I noticed though is that when I dive down the wing starts to flutter when I pick up speed, It scared me so I never did it again but I seen somebody on UA-cam testing it to the limits and they were dive bombing all day with it With no problems. Anyways can I ask you a question, I want to use the spectrum 2700 mah battery 30 c for this but I do see on the manual it calls for only 2200 through 2600 mah, It looks like there's a lot of space in here do you think I would be all right?
How do you compare this with the fms fox 3m?
The Fox is a great sport aerobatic glider but it is more of a hybrid Glider/airplane. The Fox is a great model but it is not the pure glider that the ASW-17 is. The ASW-17 has a far superior Glide ratio and is overall a better glider than the Fox. You can stay up there gliding all day with the ASW-17!
When you checked the throttle you should have never reached across the plane. You should have had the radio on the other side of the plane. That was a big no no!

Does anyone know what airfoils are used make up the cross sections of the wing? I know there is 2 different types of airfoils, but I cannot find anything online.
Send FMS an email at Support@fmsmodel.com and ask them if they can ask the engineers exactly what aerofoil they used (that’s pretty much what I would do asking for you🙂)

I know it's a selling point and I have considered purchasing this model but if FM's are claiming or naming it's a asw17, why put the registration on top of the wing. It belongs underneath!!!

Very nice and exhaustive video, but please Steve the plane is not so tny, don't zoom always on it...also frame the terrain now and then, IMHO you could see the flight behaviour better.
Brand new here. If the controls are set to minimum or in safe mode would this be ok for someone that has only flown computer flight sim? What type of tape is used for the wing stripes?
I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this for a complete beginner Straight off a simulator just because of its size and the fact there are a number of smaller more suitable ones on the market aimed specifically at beginners :)

I have no flown the Fox 2320, but I would imagine the ASW-17 is way better than the Fox.
