it's actually a male ensemble member in the pink robe and face mask and the other girl is hiding behind the banner on the pole.

I think it helps that one of the girls is covered in a mud face mask and also that you only see either girl for two seconds at most. And that the majority of people watching are 30 feet away from the stage. Lol
these are all amazing but let’s talk about leslie kritzer’s quick change in beetlejuice from delia to miss argentina. i know it’s not an on stage quick change but she has 3 minutes to paint her face and put the green bodysuit on and the rest of the outfit. it’s truly amazing.

As a volunteer backstage who had to paint fiona’s face green during the wedding scene in Shrek Jr. I know how hard that must be oh my god.
She was actually wearing the body suit underneath her Delia dress, but still! Plus the wig!
3 minutes is a lifetime in costume changes. I once had 3 numbers back to back - strip down to foundation garment changes between each, no time to go back to the dressing room, only as much time as the Emcee took to introduce the next piece.
Another one I had 3 minutes to totally change everything INCLUDING hairstyle (no wigs for that show). Finished, properly stowed the old costume, and probably could've had a snack.
It's the makeup that takes forever. Everything else is surprisingly easy once you've been doing it awhile.
An Ireelevent side story: Yesterday I was singing and thinking about my dream roles, and I happened to be singing "Let it go". I thought to myself, "Playing Elsa would be fun", but I told myself "Nah, I'm black, it would look weird" so I moved on. But seeing the girl at 0:50 really just made my day. If you read my story, thanks, and never doubt yourself! :3

I’m surprised no one is talking about the Fiona one, ya I know it was the movie musical version but that actually happens in the show. It just amazes me!
I'm pretty sure the actual Fiona actress goes offstage to change and they use a stand in because when the fairytale creatures all arrive they block her for a second and then she's facing away from the audience until the lighting affect happens for the transformation
@@nathancreek6086 nope, it's the same actor, while the mist is covering her, the prosthetics are put on and a certain special effects green light is spotlighted on just her :)

I would love to see a backstage change of Sophia in beetlejuice. From changing to the red dress, the yellow and the netherworld dress. If you have seen the show you will know the time between Sophia changing are VERY QUICK
Also in beetlejuice she has to wear the black dress and long skirt under the dress so how do they get that whole dam thing off in like 40 seconds???
You mean at the end when she goes from the dress with the long skirt to her regular dress for the curtain call? I’ve wondered the same thing! I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing the long skirt can be detached quickly backstage and her regular dress is underneath. If you look, both dresses have the same top.

i think it was presley ryan who mentioned this , but she has like a massager that’s helps massage her vocal cords and her shoulders to help with all the weight she has to carry during the show

I saw Aladdin when it came to my state and let’s just say, there was this one girl who left the stage for one second and came out in a different outfit. Like, you can tell it was her because she wore the same hat but her change was quick af. Also, Jaguars transitions in real life at amazing

I don't know why but I really like the spinny costume changes. It's always magical to me. Like a plain, boring dress, and a twirl, and BOOM.... beautiful gown. ❤

I’ll never understand why Cinderella I’m Broadway never actually did that quick change. The quick change they do on stage is so clunky and unimpressive.
I read somewhere that Laura Osnes said that he built that just for the Tony's and that the reason they don't use it for the show is because it's really heavy and she would have to wear it the whole show. I don't know if I could find that article though. 😬
I went to go see the tour and I felt like it was way cooler from far away because with the cameras so close you see the steps she's taking to so the change.
@@flyynn913 The costume can still be heavy and look impressive, it may be easier and I get why they don’t use it but that doesn’t mean the change looks better

I saw the Little Mermaid on Broadway at the very beginning of the show’s run. I remember my mother watching and being like, that is not the actor who plays Ariel/Eric. That is a double,” any time they would hide the actor’s face while the actor floated around while becoming human or while being saved from drowning. Lol. I later found out that the did the same trick with Boq in Wicked and Fiona in Shrek and the Witch in Into the Woods and the chick on the fireman-style pole in Legally Blonde. Like, it just works. lol.

Boq in Wicked always amazed me. I later learned that it’s a body double already in silver makeup and that the body double lip syncs Boq’s last bit of dialogue in the scene, which got pre-recorded or something.
Does that mean the actual Boq has to get made up in silver make up solely for March of the witch hunters?! Crikey 😂
@@woolette5866 I understood that there's a body double already done up as Tinman, presumably behind the wardrobe, that switches out during Nessa's song, and he lip-syncs over Boq's lines in the Witch Hunters song.

When I was a freshman in high school my choir went on a trip to see a tour production of Cinderella, honestly i wasn't that excited because i was thinking "its just cinderella I've seen this story so many times who cares". The first quick change she has going from the rags to the gown literally made me burst into tears it was so magical, now i have a huge soft spot for cinderella

Reminder that backstage quick changes on Broadway and other theatres are done by a crew of people who are underappreciated. Leslie Kritzer had a team of people for Beetlejuice. Rob McClure has two dressers for Mrs Doubtfire. They don't do it alone. And quite a few doubles are used.
How in the hell does the shrek one happen , so confused
Since that clip was from the filmed movie, it lost some of the theatre magic. Traditionally, Fiona is swapped out for a double for a minute or two, and the real Fiona goes backstage for rapid makeup and prosthetics. When double Fiona puts her hands up, the smoke allows for the real one to come back out, I think. I could be a little incorrect, it's been a few years since I looked into it, but I'm like 90 percent sure

Sometimes there's a very fine line between theatre and stage magic. Some of these I'm just staring at the clip over and over trying to figure out how it's done.

In frozen on broadway there’s a release on the back of the dress and there’s a vacuum under the stage that takes the dress

How did Princess Fiona from Shrek: The Musical manage to fully dye herself in a moment. It's not just the outfit change, but the makeup that amazed me most of all.
It's a double. They shot that extra bit of Sutton Foster just for the DVD.
Costume changes on stage always fascinated me because they are so damn cool.. One of my favorites is Squidward putting on his tux jacket during "I'm Not a Loser'' in Spongebob the Musical

elsa's dress transformation-
Imagine being up on stage in a coronation gown, singing your heart out, then you look a little girl in the audience in the eye. You reach the transformation and allow yourself to catch and pull off your overdress, revealing your final gown. You see the little girl's eyes light up and in that moment you know why you wanted to become a Broadway movie actor.
I just wanna say I absolutely love all the theater nerds in this comment section, even those who are just getting their feet wet by watching these kinds of videos. It’s so beautiful seeing theater magic, or rather the final product of the costume designer 💗💗
fun fact: once we were doing frozen as a musical and we had dancers who were elsa's magic "rip" the costume off

The legally blonde quick change at 1:15 isn't even really a quick change. it's just a different person. I have no idea how they manage to have someone there and ready but it's 100% not possible for that to be a quick change.
That's the whole purpose of the banner, to hide the other actress. If you pay close attention, you'll notice it takes a couple of seconds longer than it should for the actress's feet to appear below the upper stage floor (if the first actress were really sliding down, she'd show up below the upper stage section faster... the couple of extra seconds that she is "missing" is the first actress getting off the pole and hiding behind the banner while the second actress gets on the pole and finishes sliding down).

if you mean the one where the girl is getting glitter poured on her head, if you look behind her there is what looks like a grate. what it is is a vent like a vacuum, so when the tail is placed slightly over it and the vent is turned on, the tail gets sucked inside of it very quickly, making it look like it disappeared.

I saw Frozen on Broadway and I SWEAR THE CHANGE FOR ELSA WAS SO FAST- it was literally in half a second...
frozen was the first broadway show i've ever seen and i was blown away at elsa's quick change.
Laura Osnes has another great costume change in Bandstand as a nod to her role in Cinderella... her outfits are gorgeous, and it takes place in the middle of a swing-style number with Corey Cott, so 👌

I've personally always loved Donny and Julia's quick changes in the beginning of Band in New York City from Bandstand. Sure they're not the most extravagant, but I find them fun to watch and they fit in with the scene transition very well
I help at a after skl group with children aged 5 to 7 and this one girl said to me the other day, I wish I could be a Disney princess for Halloween but there are none that look like me. Seeing a black elsa will make her day!
Quick changes amaze me, I was backstage ready to dance in the nutcracker when this dude runs in from the stage and struggles to put on tights, slippers, and a crown on the floor lol. He played like 5 parts, it was crazy

The first legally blonde costume change had memories coming back to me. When our school did it I was the one to help Elle remove the dress because I was the shortest. Too bad it got cancelled because of quarantine :(
That high school Little Mermaid one was well done, but I bet that girl was finding glitter on herself for the next 3 years.
