I got to perform with a local group as Elsa and we did a variation of that. instead of a ripcord there was Velcro. it only took about half a second so the lights could drop and come on with the music and nobody saw what happened.
I'm surprised that they haven't utilized magnets for the quick change. Aside from the cape, Elsa's ice dress isn't that different from her coronation dress in terms of style and fit.

Yah, that Broadway transformation is perfect. No spinning, no pulling strings. She just naturally holds her arms back and woosh... it happens. Love the fact that she’s not doing it and that it just “happens”. And that it happens so quickly.

8:29 I actually think it's super beautiful! The dress "flows" down her body which looks to me much better than just "snap, different dress". It's also more like in the movie. And about the dress with the big shoulders: Yeah, it doesn't look good, but I think when you're in theatre, you don't recognize it, cause you're not that close. Oh man, poor Elsa whose dress failed to go off...
gluten free bleach I think what Maggie Graepel means is that, whilst the show is cancelled on Broadway, the other productions of the show (i.e. West End, US Tour, Australia etc. which are the same standard as Broadway) are set to continue as soon as it is safe to do so, meaning that the original commenter may still be able to see the show. Also, a lot of cities in the US often refer to their theatre scenes as “Broadway in [insert city here]” so I can understand the confusion...

The Hyperion was always my least favourite version of the dress transformation. It just feels so 'unmagical'. Like, you could see what Elsa was doing. It doesn't feel seemless.
"They knew what they had even before it came out was magic" didn't they think it was going to be a flop? They had so little faith in the product going in they treated all marketing before the film's release as more of a joke. Elsa and Anna in Disney Infinity are evidence of this. They saw so little interest they chose Lone Ranger over Frozen. Many Disney reps even came out afterward saying the Frozen phenomenon was not expected and it came as a surprise it caught on like wildfire in the public eye.
The parks were prepped. They had Frozen events in park before the movie even opened. Disney Infinity is a whole other story. I’m actually working on a video about that now.

This is why that Christmas time after the movies came out, it was near impossible to find any of the dolls or costumes. The only reason why Frozen was in the parks before the movie came out is because they were trying to advertise the movie, The World of Color Winter Dreams was literally one big ad for Frozen. I partially blame Disney marketing team since their tv ads centered on olaf and sven which is why it seemed like the movie was going to flop since a lot of people didn't realize it was a Disney princess movie.
Watching this made me cry. I played Elsa in the musical version and it seriously saved my life. I’ve always loved Elsa and related to her a lot and I was in a really dark time before being cast as her. Being cast as her was seriously a dream come true. Me and the girl who played my Anna are best friends now too! I would get very emotional during the finale where I would look at her and sing “The magic one is you” because that’s seriously how I feel about that girl! When we performed at JTF we even won an acting award because you could truly tell how much that cast loved each other and were so much like their roles! I’ve also met Caissie Levy, Ryan Mccartan, McKenzie Kurtz, Audrey Bennet, and Patti Murin who are from the Broadway production! I can tell you there is truly no experience more magical than singing Let It Go on stage! I would tear up a little every time i sang the first “Let it go” and the first little snowflake came out. It was just like a full circle moment from when Frozen first came out when I was in 5th grade and I had never seen myself in a princess like character before and finally I saw myself in Elsa. She made me realize that my pain and emotions aren’t wrong and I’m not broken because of them, they are my power. I cried the first time I saw her sing Let It Go and still do every time since. I used to sing Let It Go every day when I was younger and I definitely was NOT a singer than so it was cool to see that if I put my mind to it I could accomplish anything. Also when I went and saw Frozen 2 it was during our rehearsals and it just made me realize like WOW. I’ve actually gone here and I’ve done this and I’m literally living my dream. It's impressive, for sure, that she was able to keep her composure at all, let alone keep going. I hope she got a well-earned bonus and commendation for her keep-calm-carry-on attitude that night from whoever her boss was.
Disney: has a cruise ship called the Disney Dream Disney: has a show on their cruise ships called Disney Dreams Disney: doesn't have the show called Disney Dreams on the Disney Dream
Had a similar thing happen in Peter Pan in high school. The lost boys had just built Wendy’s house for her (we had panels held together with hooks), well one didn’t hook just right and the house literally imploded while she was admiring it and thanking the boys. 😳
Frozen on Broadway is honestly the best I've seen. I went to go see it at the Pantages Theater with my theater class + extra students who wanted to go so about over 50 kids packed in a theater XD Let it go was the act Finale and ngl i cried on how amazing it was it was, I still have my Playbill AND my ticket : 3
I was a set designer for a production of Frozen Jr. and our Elsa's coronation dress was basically held up by magnets. We had dancers representing snow so they created a ring around her that hid two other snow dancers that would tear off the dress from the bottom. It happens in a split second and honestly it was pretty cool to see her cause the snow dancers would break open as she stepped forward revealing her other dress. She still had the awkward shoulder fitting on her coronation dress cause she had her cape stuffed up there, but for a small community theater it was a great reveal.
I saw the Broadway transformation in person and it's absolutely amazing!!!! It's so freaking good, I couldn't (in that moment) even begin to understand how that quick change was done haha
I saw it on Broadway and it was great. There was a collective gasp from the audience, followed by cheers and applause. We may not agree upon a lot in this world at times, but Elsa’s quick change… unanimous!
Frozen broadway is underrated and was robbed of its time on Broadway. The songs are beautiful, (the second cast specifically) is super diverse, the choreography, honestly 😘🤌 chef's kiss
Out of these my favorite has to be the Disneyland Paris one. (10:00 mark roughly) I like how it's an actual dress transformation instead of the outer layer just being ripped away to reveal the second dress, while at the same time not making the initial coronation dress look too bulky.
Seeing the Elsa transformation at the Denver first run of the show had me floored. I've never seen anything like it. It was smooth, perfect and just as magical as what the video shows. The projection mapping with the stage and the ice was all done phenomenally!
I have never been this early and I don't know what to write I'm not very creative Edit: Okay that Broadway one is stunning and I wish I could get changed that quick
Saw this in London, Samantha Barkes as Elsa. It was spectacular! The transformation was incredible, the same as Broadway and the whole thing stayed with me for weeks. Wonderful!
Personally, my favorite costume, is the one at the Hyperion! I know that the actresses can’t get it to transform at times, but that’s what makes it so different. I personally wished that they don’t do a blackout on her, because people want to see it happen. And it’s a stage show, so there is always a way something happens, and if they saw her pull the string, and it just suddenly release, people are at awe, and leave wondering how they did it! definitely a magical moment!
Underrated glitter burst with the broadway quick change. It's not overdone and it's not meant to obscure the pull-away, it just gives it such a "magic" feel.
the transformation adds up amazement but what i really care about is the dress, if the transformation is awful at least the dress should be stunning. Other elsas had boring ice dresses but the broadway one really went to the roof
I had the AMAZING opportunity to see Frozen on Broadway and it was SPECTACULAR 😍 Her quick change was almost quite literally magical, not to mention the dress itself is beautiful.
Haha! I’ve been to the Disneyland show multiple times and I can say that I keep a track record in my head of how good the transformation was with each visit because yeah, it’s rare for it to be perfect. It being as bad as the “bad one” in this video is VERY unusual though. Usually a bit of the skirt gets caught and she has to jiggle it out a little. But when it works right (which it did the first time I saw it) it is PERFECT and AMAZING!! Plus, you’re super~ far from the stage at the Hyperion so I have NEVER noticed “linebacker Elsa” until this video. Basically, these videos are bootlegged recordings that have been zoomed in so you’re seeing it as if you’re right next to her, which is not how it is when you watch the show. I will say that since I loved the Hyperion transformation so much I was PSYCHED for the Broadway version. I thought it’d be even better so I looked it up and I HATED it! LOL It was probably a case of “they changed it, now it sucks.” But that plain stage with nothing on it except screens, screens, screens is so boring and lazy. If I wanted screens I’d watch the movie. The staircase! My gosh, the staircase MAKES Let It Go every time at the Hyperion. It’s gorgeous. I’d take “linebacker Elsa” and the occasional quick change flub any day if that’s what it takes to get the staircase!
I've seen Mickey and the Magician and it was truly spectacular in person! I remember "Let it go" as the highlight! It also did a great job on including both english (for foreigners) and french (for kids) since the magician talked english and Mickey talked french but often repeated what the magician had said (like the magician said in english something like "can you clean my attic?" And Mickey responded in french "you want me to clean your attic?") and Mickey was also very clear in bodylanguage so non french speakers could understand what he meant when he wasn't repeating the magician. It was a great show!
So interesting -- the whole video, but I didn't realize how long it's been since I have had a really good laugh, like, crying with laughter, until I saw the Hyperion costume fail. Thank you so much. I needed that.

It's impressive, for sure, that she was able to keep her composure at all, let alone keep going. I hope she got a well-earned bonus and commendation for her keep-calm-carry-on attitude that night from whoever her boss was.
the broadway one was the best by far. i nearly screamed when i saw that transformation.
I can't stop laughing at your laughter! It's so contagious!
I went to the frozen broadway, it was so good. I had goosebumps multiple times
Bjjoo9
Oof, the broadway costume change actually got me a little choked up. That’s the Disney Magic she needed and deserved
Disney: has a cruise ship called the Disney Dream
Disney: has a show on their cruise ships called Disney Dreams
Disney: doesn't have the show called Disney Dreams on the Disney Dream
“Walk over to the hole.” Lmao 😂😂
The Broadway version of her dress is so beautiful!! You can tell the utmost detail and care is put into it!
7:41 I can FEEL her embarrassment...
Ikr😂
Had a similar thing happen in Peter Pan in high school. The lost boys had just built Wendy’s house for her (we had panels held together with hooks), well one didn’t hook just right and the house literally imploded while she was admiring it and thanking the boys. 😳
7:39 I cackled for a truly disturbingly long time I can’t even tell you how many times I rewound this
Frozen on Broadway is honestly the best I've seen. I went to go see it at the Pantages Theater with my theater class + extra students who wanted to go so about over 50 kids packed in a theater XD
Let it go was the act Finale and ngl i cried on how amazing it was it was, I still have my Playbill AND my ticket :

I have no idea how I got here, but this is fun. Broadway was the best, but I don’t mind Elsa the linebacker.
Jerry Orbach is up in heaven laughing his ass off at the last 30 seconds of this video.
Wow amazing. You should do an evolution on Mary Poppins costume/ magic
Am I the only one who noticed in the movie version makeup magically appears on elsas face sometime during the course of the song
Y'all need to see the whole video of Frozen on Broadway! Everything is just absolutely amazing!
I have two favorite costume changes. The Broadway one and the 7:37 one. I can’t decide which one I would rather watch😂🤭
The Caissie Levy (10:24) performance is my favorite to watch/listen to on UA-cam. Love it.
I have never been this early and I don't know what to write I'm not very creative
Edit: Okay that Broadway one is stunning and I wish I could get changed that quick
The entire Broadway production was special FX to the max! Loved it!
Frozen on Broadway is closedddddddddddd!
Why did the broadway Elsa make me cry?! That was so good!
I could listen to you narrate all day! Had me rolling 😂😂😂. Linebacker Elsa?! I died 😂😂😂
"Posessed by an iced spaghetti demon" : I'm still laughing :'D
the transformation adds up amazement but what i really care about is the dress, if the transformation is awful at least the dress should be stunning. Other elsas had boring ice dresses but the broadway one really went to the roof
Personally I prefer the Hyperion version 😂😂 I love the ending where she poses and the light goes off in a bang, it gives me chills everytime 😩❄️💔
I had the AMAZING opportunity to see Frozen on Broadway and it was SPECTACULAR 😍
Her quick change was almost quite literally magical, not to mention the dress itself is beautiful.
*"The hills are alive with sounds of Elsaaa"*
Wait
I had the absolute pleasure of seeing the entire original cast on Broadway in May 2018. BEST. SHOW. EVER!
I love this guy! His jokes, constructive yet humorous criticism, the little memes and clips he puts in. Gahhh, subscribed!
The brodway transformation was the best
Also Ciara
I’m simple
I see Cassie Levy
I click
I clicked on this not expecting anything but I loved this and the narration was spot on with the jokes etc
Thanks Jamie!
I genuinely would love to be able to make a Broadway worthy transformation dress some day
The Elsa on Broadway one literally gave me chills! An amazing piece of stagecraft
Broadway transformation and dress (and singer) all are so beautiful.... :D
What about the frozen 2 dress?!??? That’s the best one 😭💔
They don't have frozen 2 shows...this is from the live shows not the actual movies
But yes it's a great transformation
The Broadway transformation actually gave me chills
I've seen Mickey and the Magician and it was truly spectacular in person! I remember "Let it go" as the highlight! It also did a great job on including both english (for foreigners) and french (for kids) since the magician talked english and Mickey talked french but often repeated what the magician had said (like the magician said in english something like "can you clean my attic?" And Mickey responded in french "you want me to clean your attic?") and Mickey was also very clear in bodylanguage so non french speakers could understand what he meant when he wasn't repeating the magician. It was a great show!
Why was I in tears when I saw the Broadway one?!?! Like not bawling, but a little teary eyes and in awe 😭
You got to believe it. Elsa is the most beautiful looking and MOST BEAUTIFUL OVERALL woman I've ever seen. I love her overall.
which elsa? the one in the movie? cassie levy?
🤩ANY VERSION!!! IT IS STILL ELSA!!!
I like the way you explained it: it's happening to her. She's not doing it to herself. Cool video!
Can you please do evolution of the three caballeros? I mainly want to see Jose carioca
So interesting -- the whole video, but I didn't realize how long it's been since I have had a really good laugh, like, crying with laughter, until I saw the Hyperion costume fail. Thank you so much. I needed that.
The one on the cruise ship kind of looked like dry ice billowing down as the dress changes,, i kind of liked it in all honesty
Elsa the linebacker. Thank you 🤣
