  • In the process of setting up the 3d printer we naturally ran into some learning points in the process. Here are the Creality Ender 3 Pro 3D Printer Setup Tips that I found in my setup process.

The 5 biggest tips I learned in this process - Creality Ender 3 Pro 3D Printer Setup Tips
    1. After assembly make sure to check the z-axis spindle (the long threaded rod). Mine seemed to stick about 2/3 of the way down as I did a home test from within the Ender menu.
    2. The placement of your Ender 3 is going to be important. Make sure that the bed can move as far back as necessary without resistance. There is a way to get into the menu and move the bed while turned on. The other option is to slowly (and carefully) move it all the way back while it is off. This helps make sure the cables don't press up against a wall. The other piece would be the potential for cable snags (in any direction).
    3. Download Cura which is by Ultimaker and this is what turns a print design into translatable code for the printer (it comes out with an extension called gcode). The file type I was told to use was called .stl and this file type is then taken to Cura to transform it to printer code.
There are MANY things that can be changed and edited in Cura (sometimes print sizes are large and scaling down is one of those examples). Cura would be an entirely separate video, and series, as I am mostly at the (here is how to download Cura stage).
    4. The room you put the printer in should be fairly quiet and free of disturbances. It's kind of like making bread, or simply allowing someone to sleep in peace. If the printer is bumped or there is a decent hit on the floor that vibrates the printer, it can mess up the print.
We put ours in a small utility room in the basement. This is great but the room temp sits at about 62F degrees. It is inside one of the exterior walls of the home. The room also is not insulated.
We do use a digital thermometer to check room temps before printing. This helps make sure we are in what I've read as the ideal range of no less than 60F and up to 80F (as too hot also causes problems). The too cold side would be consistent heat levels for the bed and extruder (part that spits out the filament).
    5. The filament you receive from the Ender 3 core kit is enough for a couple smaller prints. I believe we've been able to print 4 3" x 3" x 3" renders. These filaments do absorb moisture and the moisture can pose print issues. I have not found a consistent vacuum sealed bag link on Amazon yet but if you find one readily available, I'd snag a few.

thank you! it has been an adventure thus far. More "beginner tips" videos inbound. I had layer offset a few times into my most recent print. I adjusted some of the settings (fan speed, print speed, nozzle temp, print layer size) and it appears a lot is due to the timing belt for the extruder being slightly loose. This must have slowly been occurring as it is getting used and the belt wearing itself in after initial install/tightening.

im just another dad out here who happens to use this exact same printer...its good enough to enjoy the printing stuff. its alot at first. but i cant tell you how many prints looked like they needed to restart but still worked with the "bad" start. if ur doing toy stuff edges and points can be sharp. ive gone with petg for outside stuff. and pla for inside. good luck daddin'.

Thank you! What would the petg do for outside stuff? I haven’t tried that filament type.

@@LiftingDad I believe I read somewhere it doesnt age as fast as pla. I believe that pla has a 1yr in general rule for outside vs multiple yrs indoors (don't remember actual numbers, just the pro/con). Anytime
