There's quite a bit more you have to change. Acme makes an adaptor for everything. You need a bigger rad, different fuel pump, and lots else. Theres a guy on fb who made his tracker tdi. You can also swap the tranny to a 22r tranny from a toyota to handle more hp

mine came stock with a 1.9 turbodiesel inline 4. has loads of torque
diesel was sluggish, and never turbo when the samurai came out. this is a good swap though

You are totally right yes there was a 1.9 from factory but japanese diesels from that era were totally slow
