The Engine Hoist BROKE When We Tried To Install The LS2 In My 67 CAMARO

  • I bought a 67 Camaro RS for only $6,500 and I'm taking it to LS Fest East.
    Now that the Powerglide transmission and the LS2 from J&J Auto Wrecking is ready to go, we're going to try to install it and get everything else ready to go as well. As always, things don't exactly go according to plan. The LS2 is getting the complete Holley EFI treatment and some BRAND NEW HK Wheels as well.

    Now I've got 2 weeks to have this ready for LS Fest East, let's make it happen. www.lsfest.com...

      Yeaa so did I . Ha I was like oh hell here it comes and I seen how tight that strap was and then he added the trans and still had same just one strap ehh made me so nervous lol but then luckily the engine hoist did not pick it up , but serious I would have supported that way better with having the transmission and engine together picking it up with that it could snap and break and that would be it for both of them.

    • @michaelszczys8316
      @michaelszczys8316 4 роки тому +2

      Started playing with taking engines and transmissions in and out of cars in 1971 and I have never nor have I ever seen anybody else use a STRAP on the engine.
      One of heaviest engine and trans together was a small block Chevy mated to an old Hydramatic 4-speed trans. We had to use the very last exhaust manifold bolt holes to get it to balance. Transmission weighed as much as the engine.
      People use straps on everything and think they are totally indestructible like Superman or something. Where I work I pick up things that weigh couple tons all the time with hoist, the chains I use are not very big but if I used the straps I have they would probably rip from the weight. A good chain is really way stronger than strap unless it is HUGE strap.
      Need to do that with a chain fall in a tree where you have to move the car to jockey in place.

    The only expensive glass is the vent windows. They suck and leak when you rebuild them as well. Going restomod I would do the single glass and just get the power window unit for the doors. I heard you say something about doing a rebody with it as well. Check with your state department of motor vehicle and see if it is possible for you to do it or not . Some states don’t allow it. You have to use some of the old car for you to be able too put your vin on it. I built a car for a guy in Florida and he had the vin and fender tags for the car as well as the title but Florida we had to use parts from the car to build the car and they wanted pictures. Luckily I had a car we were cutting up for another build and we swapped out some parts for he had cut his dash out and the other parts where the vin was so we had to graft them into the new body. They are not perfect when you get them and they take a lot of work to get them to look good. You do have a brand new 1967 camaro when you get done with it..

    How many more LS camaro swaps we are going to see? They are more common than stock engines

      They are the easiest to swap and are bulletproof and can take huge power.

      Lots. Because LS swaps give you double the power, double the fuel economy, and cost far, far less than a ground up old 350 rebuild with performance parts.
      Same goes with building an old 5.0 engine. I did 306 with heads, cam, intake, exhaust, and a intercooled Procharger and it made 435hp. Now, I'd swap a new Coyote 5.0 into it. Forget anything else. Better fuel economy and all that power right out of the box. And far better street manners.
      There's good reason people do it. Everything else is old tech which is just trash by today's standards. They are scrap metal boat anchors as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather have a 5.3 out of a Tahoe or Silverado in my classic car than run any original engine. It is light years ahead of that stuff made 60 years ago.

      @@MrClarkisgod What's the point of adding more power when everything else can not take it? Everything needs to be changed first before more power to be added.

    Little trick of the trade. BBQ paint is fairly cheap compared to stuff at the auto parts store. Comes in flat and glossy.
