My daughter was born with a bilateral clubfoot. We did the ponzetti method with her as well. It was quite an adventure with her as she used her foot as a hammer and would bang it against the mattress and the crib, causing her foot to slip inside of the cast. Luckily we live close to a Shriners hospital, and we could get new casts relatively easily. They did tell us that she set a new record for recasting: 14 times! 😂 One thing that we did to make it a more positive experience for ourselves, and everyone else, is that I would draw on each cast in sharpie. Butterflies or dolphins, flowers and bugs. Happy things! So at least each time we went in to get a new cast, the doctors were excited to see us and the new artwork.
Oh yessss our crib is all beat up 😂 his bouncy seat that my sister now uses for her daughter has a mark on the edge from him slamming his casts into it. You can still see bits of orange and blue stains from the colored hard casts. We even got multiple bangs on the ceiling (well, her ceiling/our floor) from our down stairs neighbor because he would never stop stomping 😂 tummy time was her least favorite time of day. I had to hold my self back from walking down there and being like HEY B**** MY BABY HAS CASTS CAN I HELP YOU?! Like sorry for the disturbance but jeez I can’t do much about it 🤷🏻♀️😬
my son was born in 1972 with one club foot. His dr did the same as yours. One cast, next the shoes with a bar between which was adjusted periodically. Finally, corrective shoes until he was 4 yrs old. No one can believe what he went through. Fast forward 49 years: He's now retired from the Navy and living a wonderful life next door with my DIL & 2 wonderful grands! If my son had been born 100 yrs ago, he would have 'half-lived' his life as a cripple. Thank God for a great dr. More blessings to you, your son & whole family.
This little guy is such a trooper! I have not seen him cry, a real happy baby! Parents are doing a great job. Babies feel the parent anxiety. No much longer. Take care and God bless!
THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR STORY!!! My son Casper, who is now TWO (Running, climbing and jumping like any ole tot), was born with CF and when I found out at my 20wk appointment, there wasn’t much online for support groups. Even the subreddits were dry, most of the posts had been from years before. I was very upset to find out that he would have to grow up with such a thing. BECAUSE I DIDNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT! And I wish that I had been able to find resources, other moms, etc who could show me their journey and tell me it would all be okay! I had to find out the hard way. (I say hard way, because he runs circles around me and never lets me have an easy day ahaha!) but it’s so beautiful that now two years later, I see your videos, as well as other moms who post about their journey. I’ve found support groups on FB, and my hubby even told me that the subreddits aren't as dry as they used to be. PRAISE THE LORD FOR THESE CLUB FOOT CUTIES AND THEIR STRONG MAMAS WHO HOLD THEIR BABIES SO CLOSE WHEN THEY REMOVE THE CASTS, AND PUT THEM IN THOSE DANG BOOTS WHEN THEY GRADUATE FROM THE CASTS!!! our children will be FOREVER grateful for us, our patience, and determination to not let them win when they don't want to be booted ♥️
I had casts for the first 2 years of my life. They weren't quite clubbed for me, just turned inward. My mom saved a few of them, and I loved seeing that as I got older. Figured I would mention that part lol
2 years!!! Wow! For a slight inward turn? Our son had sever bilateral clubfoot and had to be in casts for months and months. He’s in a boots and bar mechanism now… may I ask what year you were born? Maybe the Dobbs bar wasn’t a thing yet? Were the casts you had to wear considered “ponsetti method”?
@@sagedearborn7617 I was born in 83. I wouldn't say it was slightly turned inward, just that they weren't clubbed. I wish I could give more details but sadly my mom passed in 2010 so I'm not sure if there was a certain method they used. Dad doesn't have a memory for the details like that.
Went through the same thing in 1964 with my first born. At 19 it was quite a shock since back in the dark ages we didn’t have any scans or clue something was wrong, Today you get a heads up. My son is 58 now and after those casts he has had not problem since he was 7 weeks old. I’d say this is one cure that just keeps on giving.😊
Thank you for sharing this, it will help many people! I’m glad you found the right intervention. Sorry he had to go through this, but the timing seemed perfect for minimizing the disruption to his development. Not that it was easy.
It's so good that you're sharing this, your experience. I'm sure it'll be so reassuring for other new parents. So glad to see how your little one is doing so well. God bless you!
My son is 3 months old now and has finished up with casting. Now he is getting familier with the shoes. Hope everything goes well ..Happy to see your baby is doing great.❤😊
My husband born 1971, was born with clubbed feet. He went through so many surgeries and pain. It's so great that there's such a good treatment so early. You both are so fortunate
First daughter was born with the same condition , she had to go through from 5 cast , she is now 20 months old and perfectly fine , she is doing every activity like other kids . All matter after cast is shoe wearing timing. The more child wear clubfoot shoe the better the position. This the process for at least 4 to 5 year.
I don't have any memories of the casts, but have lots of baby/toddler photos with them on both legs. Thank you for sharing this - it makes me wonder if I had the Ponzetti method. (FYI as an adult my legs and feet are typically shaped and have no issues.)
My son had a cast on his left foot for a mild club foot. He only needed one cast. I had to do exercises with his feet and he wore those shoes that turn out for a couple months. He hasn't had any problems with his feet. He's 36 yrs old now.
My eldest daughter was treated at A. I. DuPont institute in Wilmington DE back in the 1983-1985 time frame. She got so attached to her casts that she'd cry when we removed them before each progressive appointment. We used vinegar soaked cloths to soften and remove them. She actually beat a hole in the floor of her playpen by kicking with her casts! She learned to hop around on her butt since she couldn't crawl with them on. Today she is 40 and perfectly fine.
Ah yes, Instagram. The medical go to. Lol. In all seriousness though, I'm glad the little guy is doing well! Absolutely no disrespect meant from the Instagram comment, just made me chuckle.
He appears perfectly healthy and happy! Chances are good he’s still a tiny baby right now, so any kind of ‘status update’ about his development will take some time.

Cute idea, I'd do the same for my kid if I had one.
We went through this in 1977, then the shoes with the bar while sleeping. It all worked out.

Did you take him to the Shriners Hospital. Because everything is free until they turn 18
He is adorable. Glad he is getting the help he needs.
I’m so happy for you

That is such a unique process to see. This beautiful baby has parents who so obviously love him. I wonder who he'll decide to become 🤔

There was this famous russian figure skater that supposedly had this as a child too. Now I know how they corrected it.
