We use the tig welder to remove dowels and broken bolts for over 30 years now. Never had seen honing the rods to increase rod bearing clearance. That would affect the crush 🤔. Piston coating looked great. Keep making the Ford videos. Thanks from Texas USA.

Kyle . Retired maintance welder ,all my life . Put down a flat washer slightly smaller than stud , when stud is broke off below surface. . Makes it easier to weld . Then drop the nut on top and weld . Nut to stud. Works awesome on threaded bolt as you gab a wrench an unwind the broken bolt out. Even better if there is a little bolt sticking up ,use the correct washer to snugly fit around bolt . as you get a strong weld to washer. Then can if you have to grind washer flat and smooth , drop the nut on top . Try it you will like it lol. Never miss a video of your , thanks

Muriatic acid works great for burning melted aluminum off cylinder walls. Do keep the container sealed up though as the fumes will rust any bare steel within 100 yards.

My old boss used it to clean the oil/grease spots in our lift bays.

You can never fully reseal an open container. It must be stored away from any bare metal preferably outdoors.

There are some nice chem storage cupboards available that aren't super expensive. We use them in labs, and I have two in my shop at home with one venting outside for acids and bases, and one being sealed mainly for solvents and flammables. I personally find that to be a better solution than having things outside where temperatures, weather and such can cause other problems to either containers or the chemical inside.
A bit geeky, but it's nice to work in a shop where things are easily accessible but also safe.

I never store Muriatic where you have things that can rust, it can form vapors that will rust every piece of steel in small building. Should not if it is sealed but I just err on the same side and don't store it where things can rust.

I have a 68 Ford F250 2x4 that Im restoring to an F150 4x4 it is actually in very good condition already but I want to make it pristine. It has an Fe motor in it right now I don't know if I want to say with Fe or go 385 family or even maybe a Winsor. I think I want to go with a 4 speed auto so that could play into it a little bit. Those old c6 trans are bullet proof but just like turbo 400 they are hard on the gas milage. You and your family have a great new year and God Bless.

  • @scottconrad2719

    • @Motorsportkyle

Not necessarily stronger than the chain or gears. But more forgiving of rapid RPM change (like the 2step or rev limiter) thats one of the reasons the cam dowel sheared. That and you’re supposed to use two dowels not one on a high RPM solid roller which i did not do.

The belt is about the same strength as the chain. But the real advantage this set up has is found in the “stretch” that the belt does have, the harmonics dampening affect of the belt, and it makes it extremely easy to adjust cam timing or change cams all together.
