As someone whose only interaction with the Cosmere is bouncing off the beginning of Way of Kings twice, but who enjoys RPGs and game design: "I like your funny words, magic man."
My wife and I are relatively new to the Cosmere, We have listened to the whole MIstborn era 1 and we are currently in the first third of the Way of Kings, and starting there is difficult... I would recommend you starting with MIstborn, the first book (AKA The FInal Empire), it is not that long, it has a satisfying conclusion and is not as dense as The Way of Kings.
I got half way through the 2nd Mistborn book. 1st was good, second was...not. Haven't bothered with Sanderson since and tbh the pricing for this is absolutely ridiculous. 200 dollars for what you need to play? sorry Sanderson, go fuck yourself, you're not THAT good. and it's just a typical d20 system to boot.
Today I woke up with a new goal, to start saving money, to start restricting my money and do not bug unnecessary things. Well today I am going to sleep with a debt in my credit card because I need the world guides to read more lore and art from my favorite books… love you sando
I'm not even a tabletop RPG player, but the world guides with the art and history was just too good to pass up! Great that there's an option for just "Readers".
On behalf of... basically the world, I just wanted to say thank you, Brandon. You've given the world a wonderful gift(your stories and your world I mean), and we appreciate it more than you know. God bless you for that. I hope one day that I can give you my own in return, given it contains any merit at all. ^_^
Already backed collector pledge as well as the 4 miniature 7 packs for stormlight! Sad I couldn't get the chasmfiend as well as the interlude extra minis from the previous project since I missed that one :( I will be eating humbly for a while after this though XD
Sanderson has absolutely overtaken everyone to hold the mantle of "greatest figure in fantasy." More books, more quality, more content, more connection with fans, more unique endeavors, more delivery altogether than any other author in fantasy by a thousand miles. From the weekly updates to the newly announced Worldhopper's ball at Nexus, to the constant book releases, to the ongoing adaptations behind the scenes, no one is doing it better.
I’ve never played D&D, but I love boardgames and Stormlight Archive, knowing that, is it reasonable for me to get into this ? Can it be played with 2 or 3 players ? 😅
I love Brandon's gentle little reminder that he is the unrivaled master of the Cosmere 🤣'Your choices can't possibly be canon because *I* won't know about them."
This is awesome news! So Kickstarter now, stormlight books in 2025, mistborn books in 2026. Both will have a prewritten adventure as part of the release from what I understand. Is that the desired cadence, a new release every year? I am hoping to get an idea of what release schedule you might shoot for, and if that's a new world, an update to an existing world when a new book is released, like Elantris 2, or a new prewritten adventure. Its already so much but I would love to have an idea on the plan for more prewritten adventures.
I wish this wasn't a Kickstarter, I can't participate because I don't have a credit card. As a German, I hope that there will be a German translation at some point. Until then, I wish all the bakers a lot of fun and the creators a lot of success.
I really wish they would make a Lumar campaign where you travel all the seas. My thought when reading Tress was basically that this would make an amazing RPG setting.
I’ve been gifted some of these books a long while ago, but never started reading them because it was daunting, knowing that there’s a LOT of lore and build-up to it. This is pretty much a sign for me to delve in and relinquish my misgivings to a different fantastical story. To me, this sounds like an opportunity to join a living storyline similar to the likes of The Legend of the Five Rings, which I wasn’t old enough to be part of. This is definitely the time, and the time is now. By the way, which is the first book chronologically so I can follow?
Any word on if it will be possible to run a single campaign with PCs from both Mistborn and Stormlight? For example having a Misting and a Knight Radiant in one party? I know it would break the base lore in the setting, but I am sure there are ways for players to make their own take on the world and story so I'm not so concerned about that. Just wondering if the rules for the two, and future rulebooks, are compatible in this way.
From what I have seen it looks like they plan on releasing a Worldhoppers guidebook at some point. They have put thought into keeping things balanced for encounters with mixed investiture users, so Id say yes
The power Brandon Sanderson has over my bank account needs to be studied
The Cosmere is where all my money goes that would've been spent on AAA games and seeing movies in theaters
