This is honestly pretty cool to see. Personally, I’d spend the extra $20k on the TTRS, with one extra cylinder. It gets to 650 crank with tuning alone, bringing its 0-60 down to under 3 seconds with only tuning. It just takes too much work to get the R to where this one is honestly. You’d be spending just as much money modifying an R to this kind of spec as you would for doing the same with a TTRS. It just has more potential. It’s important to invest and look at your options. I’m not saying buying the golf R was a bad decision, no it’s a great car by all means, but the 5 cylinder just has way more potential for power, and has a better gearbox, stronger front and rear end, and the in-line 5 is much smoother than the 4. Very sweet build
Very valid point. I was able to pick up my R used for a very good price and with all the mods I am still under the price of a lightly used rs3/ttrs. I was messing around with a buddy who had a FBO stage 2 rs3 and we were neck and neck with incredibly similar performance. Overall the rs3/ttrs sounds better, makes more power when tuned, and the dq500 is way better than the dq250/381 trans and will be a steal when the market catches up on the used ones. The US does not offer hatchbacks and therefore the golf r is the choice for a performance oriented hatch. If that’s not a concern then by all means the rs3/ttrs is the choice to be. Either way they both are incredible machines and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers! PS.. I’ll take the 5cyl DAZA sounds over the 4cyl ea888 any day haha it sounds amazing!
Driven by Boost hey! Thanks for the reply I really appreciate it. I do know there is no hatch in America, but I met a guy at a meet who 5 cylinder swapped his golf R after he blew up the engine on 40psi LOL. It’s practically an RS3 hatch with the haldex diffs and everything. So if you blow up your motor (I hope you don’t though), just know that a 07K swap is possible with the R! But then again, that’s even more money lmao. Bartek Tuning sells a 1,000hp fully built motor for €17,000, which is about $20,000 American money. They have quite a few in stock, so if you ever need a mostly built in-line 5, go check out bartek. Never know when you might need that motor. I always have backup motors in case I blow mine up in the future
Wow that must be one sweet R! Thanks for the heads up, god forbid something does happen it’s good to know I have options and 5cly golf r would be a dream come true!
Wow. Cool car and setup. I am on full APR stage 2 setup. Would like to do stage 3 from APR. Did you build the engine? This holds me off a bit. Forging the engine takes time... 😊 👍
Engine is unopened but I have plans to build it eventually. A lot of the stage 3 cars have high miles on this build! But as everything with cars it can be a gamble.
sick car dudes! insane! just some constructive criticism is try to make the video a bit more exciting because the car is, but I guess you're just starting out judging by subscribers count, it's a like from me though! 👍 enjoying my 7.5 as well, for now stock :D
It's 438WHP and 408WTQ and 482BHP, 435BTQ on pump 93. It does not make over 500hp unless you run race gas (100 or 104 octane) or an ethanol file (with MPI) from another tuner. The engine needs to be rebuilt at this level and beyond. High torque, low RPM use = high PCP = blown engine! If you are keeping the build at this level, you should build the motor for longevity!
Not necessarily, VW/Audi and Mercedes build some seriously solid blocks that are near billet quality unlike many other manufacturers. I’ve personally seen and raced a 600whp Golf-R with E85 and the engine was not rebuilt. I’ve seen this car in person but only passing on the road so I can’t speak for what he has but I can safely say that his specs seem pretty legit.

@@drivenbyboost that’s just insane. Cause the tune merely changes rpm shift points but there’s obviously no hardware upgrade. Insane that VW/Audi would have such a durable DSG.
Is it a dump valve that makes the sound you made at 13:20, or what is it? Been wondering for a while now Also awesome car bro, that steering wheel is immaculate
What steering wheel is that, and how do you like it? I've been looking at putting a custom wheel in my '19 Golf R, but if I'm going to drop that kind of cash, I'd like to make sure that it's a quality piece of kit. Awesome build by the way!
Thanks! The wheel is forged carbon and made by TawCustoms. I’ve had it for 6 months and it’s held up great! The carbon hasn’t faded and still looks brand new. If you can pick one up I recommend it, it really changes the look of the interior for the better!
How'd he get the Mk7.5 tail lights to fit on a Mk7? Do they fit like OEM? I can imagine getting the wiring and coding to work must've been a nightmare.
Jack Curtis plug n play replicas, they’re not the oem 7.5s but the 7.5 reps. Wiring wasn’t too bad although still figuring out the coding for the dynamic turn signals
@@drivenbyboost Okay, my Mk6 R has the euro style tail lights from SuperNova Lighting and they came with a CANBUS decoder so it was literally just plug and play, no worrying about coding and the Dynamic turn signals look amazing! Give their website a look if you're interested in other lighting pieces!
I have a 16 Golf R and APR stage 2 + and want to know how much was it to go to stage 3+ without all the suspension mods? And who did the labor and what was the time to convert.
Wassup man, trying to change my cars color to the way yours is got a golf 7 tsi. You inspired me with this color. Please share what is the name of that color
Occasionally the drivers side front mount makes a slight clunk sound over stiff bumps. It’s a known issue with the MSS springs , most likely going to change them out come next season.
The stock turbos on this platform have almost no lag and with a tune you’ll have instant torque. It’s when you start upgrading to larger turbos and intercoolers you’ll feel lag.
@@drivenbyboost absolutely, stage 1 put a smile on my face everyday. I'm that average joe driver that wouldn't need or know how to handle any more power. BUt I still envy your car haha.
Whats better to modify up to stage 3+... The manual transmission or the DSG semi auto double clutch. Like if both were say 500+ BHP what would be faster and would it be noticeable?
Cammy_flage honestly If your planing on going big turbo I’d go dsg all day. Handles the power better and puts it down better. Plus launch control on dsg is stupid fun!!
Driven by Boost Thanks was originally confused about what’s cheaper to go for the 7 or 7.5 DSG seems to be more expensive than a manual. If it’s totally worth it I’d be willing to save a while. Not got a golf r yet but would like to get this kinda hp some day when I get my hands on a stock one.
Hi, interesting review, are there ani anti-lag features on this car? (i suppose there are) which features are there? Cheers, what are the extra modifications of the 3+ vs the (regular :p) stage 3? Cheers, Looking to buy a 7.5 R myself in Belgium, but cannot decide which tuner would be best for me: HGP, APR, ... Cheers
Extra modifications from stage 3 to 3+ is the APR fueling kit. Currently the kit is now only available with the fueling so it’s a requirement. No anti lag features available. APR is a good map but not personalized or customizable. If you want to set it and forget it go to APR, if you want room to play and want other tuning look elsewhere. I recently posted a video explaining my liked and dislikes about APRs stage 3 kit! Give it a look and feel free to ask any more comments or questions, I’ll do my best to answer. @@drivenbyboost that’s just insane. Cause the tune merely changes rpm shift points but there’s obviously no hardware upgrade. Insane that VW/Audi would have such a durable DSG.
@@cjb8993 it changes shift points but also increases clamping force on the clutches which reduces slippage at higher power levels
His friend said that it had torque converter which is wrong because it’s a dsg (dct)
Is it a dump valve that makes the sound you made at 13:20, or what is it? Been wondering for a while now
Also awesome car bro, that steering wheel is immaculate
aaaaaaaabbbbbbbb77 thanks I really appreciate it! If I’m not mistaken I believe it’s the wastegate creating the sound
Don't look behind u but your being followed by a mini. Good video, like how u go into detail. Doo do do do woosh.
Haha that mini was right on my tail! Glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching!
Great video🔥
Sub earned💪
Thank you, much appreciated!
Love the color
This car will have a Very good Race with the mexican car Thanos that have Stage3 +, big Turbo, Metanol, i Thing that could be the best Race
Jesé Yahir519 would be a great race indeed, he has a beautiful golf r!
What about the emissions ? Can flash it to stock and pass it or how you do it ?
Everything looks great. Just not a big fan of that front lip. Good build overall. APR is a good kit. 👍
Need to tune my 7 .:R so bad!
mustache ftw !
I dont like GTi but this one is 🔥👌🏻 great stuff
Thank you, I appreciate it!! 💯
This is an R, not a gti.
@@brdpit tx for correcting me 👌🏼..but yip thats a beauty
That steering wheel😍😍 Do you have a link??
www.tawcustoms.com/ here ya go!
I also have a 16 Golf R with APR stage 2+ and an thinking of going to III. What is the approximate cost to do this parts and labor.
Dream car 🥺
Wassup man, trying to change my cars color to the way yours is got a golf 7 tsi. You inspired me with this color. Please share what is the name of that color
mojalefa leqheku gloss atomic teal 3M
Glad go see such hp on stock engine.
Whats that clunk noise when you drive? Sounds like something is not right with the suspension
Occasionally the drivers side front mount makes a slight clunk sound over stiff bumps. It’s a known issue with the MSS springs , most likely going to change them out come next season.
What year is your Golf R ? I test drove a 2019 golf R manual. Didn’t notice any lag at all
It is a 2017, but this one has a bigger turbo than stock so there’s a tiny bit of lag due to the power coming in later in the power band
The stock turbos on this platform have almost no lag and with a tune you’ll have instant torque. It’s when you start upgrading to larger turbos and intercoolers you’ll feel lag.
They don’t make the 2019 R in a manual 🤷🏻♂️
Paul Laithwaite in the USA they do
I drive a stage 1 2017 Golf R with ECU/TCU only, it is so much better than your car at at.....at.......er......it's quieter for enjoying music!!!
Golf R stage 1 is no joke! I was stage 1 for a time being and it was an absolute blast, surprised a lot of people with how quick it is!
@@drivenbyboost absolutely, stage 1 put a smile on my face everyday. I'm that average joe driver that wouldn't need or know how to handle any more power. BUt I still envy your car haha.
These MQBs are pretty amazing, if you’re ever in the Chicago land area hit me up and we’ll go for cruise if ya want!
Just got my golf r 3 days ago, even stock it's so fun to drive I can only imagine this thing. Things is the tits guy , love the color as well ✌
I love this car
Idk why but he reminds me of Bob's burgers
Meh not really
Does this colour come standard in the US? Or is it custom? Beautiful 😍
Wrapped in 3M gloss atomic teal
Stock internals? Has it genaded yet?
Cheers,
what are the extra modifications of the 3+ vs the (regular :p) stage 3?
Cheers,
Looking to buy a 7.5 R myself in Belgium, but cannot decide which tuner would be best for me: HGP, APR, ...
I know how difficult it is to decide
So i have a catted apr downpipe. If i go catless, will i be louder?
Yes it will be slightly louder 👍
What is the total cost of the car and modifications? It must be very high.
Did he say Golf R's DSG have torque converter? 10:14
Hmm not sure I did, but you are correct the DSG does not have a tradition torque converter
@@drivenbyboost not you but your friend did say it.
Ah yes he did, launch control probably knocked him silly 👍
Dude are you guys trying to make me buy a Golf R. I have an Audi B8 a4 now 2.0T now and at APR stage 2. Golf Rs are sick.
Dooooo it 👌🏼
How do you like your MSS springs? I want to do get those ASAP on my MK7 R.
samosasNmimosas they are one of the best spring kits out there. Mine are for sale as I just went to air ride
Hey man what is your wrap do you k thye4 name
It has stock internals? I am curious if it is still trouble free with that much power on stock internals?
Good for 350 hp on stock rods anything over that just a matter of time
How did you get both headlight to light up? Only seen a white dot on high beams before?
Those are just the golf r’s oem drls, otherwise it might just be camera glare looking like they both were on 👍
How do I get this set up? Do you have a link to where I can order the stage 3?
Apr has this complete set up. I have it on my mk7 R as well and i love it
Any electrical issues.....????
