I just bought early Schildkrot doll with celluloid head, composite (i think) forearms and kidskin leather body. So using cream of tartar to vlean that leather is a mind-blowing idea for me. Thank you!
My heart was beating real fast too. It brought memories of me getting this terrible glue off a "Frankenstein" doll of a French kid body to a S&H head and there were those scallops underneath. I had found no research (1985) on how to do it, so I asked a shoemaker for tips. Saddlesoap, not sure if that was good to use, did wonders at softening the leather up stiffened from the glue, it seemed like bookbinder glue almost like a hard dark yellow glassy mess. Unfortunately we are not sure where they are, the body and the head with a new Seeley composition body. Linda is my kind of lady! Patience works miracles.
@@RachelHoffmanDolls I have some leather bodies but this are modern. No sure but they are Seeley and the arms are continue leather .I think it will go under the shoulder plate and a cross the leather body. Would like to see how do you paint composition body. I have this two Bru the color of slip is chocolate that I rescued no bodies for them. It just so frustrating . Tons of heads without body parts🤔.
You would not wash them, you would use cleaning supplies. We have wig cleaning tutorials on UA-cam, give it a search and you will find lots of resources. Thanks for tuning in!
Thank You! I spoke to the local museum today about taking my Mama's dolls from the 1940's. My daughters do not love them. Actually they are scared to death of them. They would put them in the trash bin.
@@RachelHoffmanDolls ah yes, the part where I forget to use my words - ha ha! She had some kind of liquid she was using to clean the stains from the Bru's leather body before she used the cream of tartar. I just got a leather body French fashion that is SO filthy, poor dear needs a GOOD cleaning. The good news is that the body seems quite sturdy.
We’ve done both. It totally depends on the type of rip/damage and the condition of the body. Sometimes the leather isn’t strong enough to sew and a patch is better.
Linda really is a fairy Godmother, at least now i know how she looks like in your latest videos. She put in so much love into the dolls.
She really is! 🧚♀️
i love love this, so grateful to be learning so much about doll restoration from your beautiful amazing channel. ❤❤❤❤
Biz will get the stains off too.
Love your show❤️🥰🤗
YES! We like Biz, too!!

I do have an old pair of scalloped/scalloped scissors! Didn't even realize it. They were inherited from my grandmother's sewing kit.
I love the antique dolls.💕
I saw an Armand Marseille where someone had dyed the leather pink 😮 is there a way to remove that?

Hi there! Is there a way to find the video that shows further work on this doll ? Thank you
I don’t think we did more filming on this one, so sorry! This was before we were more pro in our video making.
Did you ever make a continuation of this repair. I would like to see the wood part and how you fixed it.
Hi Tina, I’m sorry I don’t think we got more footage of this.
Ok, no worries, Thank you. One other question. How can you tell how old one of these bodies are without a head or any markings?
This video was very helpful Rachel. Where do I buy the grey glue? Thanks!
You can get it through the Doll Artisan Guild: dollsbeautiful.com/shop/ols/products/great-glue
When you have tape that you need to remove, try heating the area with a blow dryer, or spreading alcohol over it with a Q-Tip.
Since the patch shows I was thinking of cutting a heart shape for the patch or a scalloped edge shape?
Cream of tartar is used to stabilize egg (meringue) and is available in the supermarket near the baking powder and baking soda.
Thanks for the info!
love, love, love !
Thanks for watching!
I ordered white kid on etsy!
Where do i buy great glue
I’d like to know, too. I searched Google and found nothing.
OMG! Their faces are si beautiful! Do you glue the leather body to the shoulder plate?
Carmen Colon Thank you! And yes, just the leather part. The rest is attached with nails to a wood rod in the middle of the shoulder plate.

Rachel, what's the liquid Linda is using for removing the red stains on the leather body formula 9-1-1?
Yes. Formula 911.
Thanks for refreshing my memory. I got a small bottle from you.
May I have a link to your shop.
Maybe a scalloped edge shape?
Cream of Tartar just for leather or can be used for clothe body?
No, we wouldn’t recommend that and have never tried that.
what is the name of the cleaner that was used on the red stains? Thanx.
It’s called formula 911 and it’s purchased through DollsPart Supply.
Muito lindo 👏 esse Trabalho
Thank you!
Thank you for this video! I was able to repair my Kestner doll knee from watching this ❤️
Glad it helped!
What kind of glue do you use please
Great Glue or Amazing Glue from the Doll Artisan Guild.
Could you please advise me how to wash a mohair wig.
You would not wash them, you would use cleaning supplies. We have wig cleaning tutorials on UA-cam, give it a search and you will find lots of resources. Thanks for tuning in!
GRAZIE ottimo video.
Si possono comperare?
Non capisco la lingua..
Thanks for watching!
Hi what should I do if leg completely thorn out?
I don't know what thorn out means but you can always consult a doll doctor in the Doll Doctor's Association: dolldoctorsassociation.com/
Thank You! I spoke to the local museum today about taking my Mama's dolls from the 1940's. My daughters do not love them. Actually they are scared to death of them. They would put them in the trash bin.
I’m glad the local museum can take them, also make a will so that your daughters do not do anything foolish with your belongings.
Is she now for sale?
She sold after this video. Sorry for the delay, just saw your comment.
So what was the product that Linda was using? There is nothing in your shop for cleaning at present.
Not sure where you were in the video. We used Boost, 911, and Perk which we have sold out of. Otherwise, this powder is cream of tartar

Cream of tracker
Yes! Tartar but yes!
oops. sorry. found the answer below. i have these products, but never used them :-(
Hope you try them soon!
Made me laugh when neither women knew what creme of tartar is used for in the kitchen !.
I still don’t know lolol
So sewing the doll isn't right? It's better to patch with kid gloves
We’ve done both. It totally depends on the type of rip/damage and the condition of the body. Sometimes the leather isn’t strong enough to sew and a patch is better.
