This is the first Kirby game where Kumazaki, the current director of the series, had any major input in. Another funny thing is that this guy is known to love cosmic horror and actually draw realistic eldritch spawns when he is not working on Kirby. That may help you understand why Canvas' Curse is such an important game for the history of the series' art direction and why all the bosses after Drawcia are either extremely screwed up in appearance and concept or have extremely depressing backstories and tragic ends. Yes the old Kirby bosses are pretty good with the whole cosmic horror thing but that didn't help that both Sakurai and Shimomura seems to also like having hellspawns as their final bosses. At this point you may start to wonder if HAL doesn't have a note in their contracts that explicitly state that you must like cosmic horror to even be the director of the series.
Indeed, Mr. Kumazaki certainly makes my own cosmic hellspawn artwork look like amateur by comparison on how good his art direction is. I have been doing art since I was 4 years old and I'm 30 going on 31 in less than a couple of months.

As a self-taught artist, I appreciate the fourth-wall breaking in this game and the metaphor about the difficulty of art and creativity. You ever felt like you're literally fighting your own tools/medium? That's the message I got from the Drawcia battle--as others here have said, she isn't fighting Kirby, but _you_ the player.
Most Kirby final boss themes have atmospheric and ominous feels. This theme is chaos. Pure chaos. This is reflected, not just in the theme, but in the top screen too. During your adventure, your top screen gives you a map to guide you. But during the final encounter, as Drawcia loses her physical form, it turns to static. Nothing but static. And while this happens, she attacks with eveirthing she has. She can't think straight anymore. She just wants 1 single thing. To kill you and Kirby. You, the player that has guided Kirby during the entire adventure, are the true hero of this story, aswell as Drawcia's true enemy. As she turned into just a soul, she realized that the real treath wasn't the pink ball infront of her. It was the one controlling the brush. So she begins to attack eratically, trying to outsmart the player. Rapid movements, eratic music, everithing to defeat you. And once her health is gone and her life is finished, she screams at you, the player.
you have forever changed this game for me. although in now going through a brainwave... if drawcia is aware of us, the player, does she know that she isn't technically real? does she really think we're a threat?and I get how it's terrifying with this sudden change, but would this make her the ruler of the canvas world??? Okay this is what I love about Kirby games. There's always some twist at the end, and the majority of final bosses in Kirby are actually really freaking creepy. I just finished Triple Deluxe, and I kept saying while playing the game, "There's going to be some kind of plot twist." And what do you know, I was right.
Same it was also around the time you posted that comment I started to notice that Kirby final bosses were starting to get creepy and have a plot twist at the end lol. I wonder what you thought about Kirby planet robobot, star Allies and forgotten land?
In planet robobot you can hear haltman faintly screaming every tine you destroy a pillar in the star dream soul os fight in star allies when you kill astral birth void it smiles and in forgor land specimen id-f86 consumes the beast pack including leongar to turn into a very terrifying boss ( and it chases you down) and we have sectonia ripping her head of after her flower form in her soul fight and know this?! its not even looking at kirby its looking at YOU the player of kirby canvas curse😢
Nearly a decade later and this is still true lmao. There’s just something so badass about a protagonist as cute as Kirby going up against these absolute hellspawns
Welcome to Kirby, a game where a cute little pinky ball kills innocent creatures. There is blood and terrifying sounds. Even the bosses are messed up. Note that this is rated e for everyone.
@Competition For LOST, wonder how that would work, since music in games are whole audio files instead of several samples with pitch changes for parts of a song like the SNES, DS, or GBA.

this entire level literally feels like a fanmade weird-creepypasta kirby game. ita weird how marx's screech gets talked more than whatever drawcia soul has going on
This is probably my favorite "spin-off" (if it's considered as such). Not only was it one of the first DS games that actually played like a game (whereas most of the DS's early titles were just gimmicky with touch screen use), but I loved the connection you had between Kirby. Despite the fact that the idea that Kirby is actually relying on YOU is only referenced in the opening and the ending. Drawcia's my favorite Kirby boss, for several reasons. Hope she makes some cameos in later games.
I didn't notice that until a few hours ago an article pointed out the similarities. Maybe it is because I haven't touched Canvas Curse (or the touchscreen of my original DS) in years. That is actually why I decided to watch this vid.
No wonder why I had nightmares as a child from this boss. The music is terrifying (in a great way) and the screeches give me chills. And people say Kirby is a kids game.
HEY KIDS! DON'T YOU LOVE KIRBY? ISN'T EVERYTHING SO CUTE!? KIRBY KIRBY KIRBY, HE'S THE STAR OF THE SHOW! KIRBY KIRBY KIRBY HE'S THE NAME YOU SHOULD KNOW! IT'S SO KID FRIENDLY! LOOK HOW CUTE IT IS? Proof that Kirby is "Y-know, for kids": -Drawcia Soul (this): A huge glob of paint with a freaky looking mouth, five eyes and she screams like CRAZY!! -Marx Soul (the scariest one): An awesomely designed zombie jester that screams when he dies and it will hurt ANYONE'S ears, makes the most gruesome face that turns into two and just explodes!(pure nightmare fuel) -Magolor Soul: A weird creature with 3 eyes (everyone thinks it's Zero) who is possessed by the Master Crown and screams Kirby's name in agonizing pain. Soul of Sectonia: A zombie bee who laughs in a really disturbing way and steals Marx and Drawcia's attacks. Star Dream Soul OS: A one eyed robot who has the creator's soul, a huge 4 armed base, Nova 2.0 (and it screams in a weird, robotic way), and a heart that can one hit kill you and the screams it makes is Haltmann's but distorted and more disturbing. And these games are all rated E for everyone (yeah, right😒)
Why is every soul boss so creepy? This is a horrifying ball of paint, Marx's soul ending scream is just so creepy, Magolor's soul is scary just like dark matter (since he's dark matter reborn), and the soul of Sectonia's laughs are just terrifying...
Most other Soul Bosses: Here's a souped-up version of the original boss. Nothing more, nothing less, but it's still kinda cool. Drawcia Soul: HERE'S A GIANT ORB OF PAIN THAT SCREAMS AT YOU
So I imagine the reason Soul's theme is so weird and glitchy is either because you're not supposed to be there, or because that's just how messed up Drawcia's head is. The fact that her attacks damage herself (it at least looks like the player isn't doing a thing when those weird eye things fall back to hurt her?) is kinda weird, does she just not care anymore? XD
The game is for the DS, when things randomly get stunned or flinch that's the person tapping them. Those eye things aren't her attacking herself, it's an attack that the player can deflect back at her. She DOES care, enough to split a piece of herself at Kirby for massive damage, plenty to go around too. You can see at a few points that the player wasn't fast enough and the eyes executed an elemental attack. As for the music, you aren't IN her, she's all over the place so why can't the music be too?
She thought she had all the power, but she didn't so she's throwing everything at Kirby now to (try to) stop them. That also causes a fucked up world with all the power she's using at Kirby, meaning fucked up music.
Really late, but I think it's Drawcia's descent into insanity. After the death of her sister, she started losing herself and it culminated in this, where Drawcia has lost all semblance of sanity and is lashing out at you. There are two thoughts going through her head. 1) Kirby, this entire game has only ever done anything by your power, hence why she faces the screen the entire time and not Kirby. And 2) She wants you dead, no matter what it takes. So many of her attacks are throwing herself at you because she has nothing left to lose.
If anyone has ever Played Canvas Curse and Triple Deluxe Paintura literally references Drawcia 70% in her battle from her cries and attacks and even look!
The boss isn't facing Kirby, she's facing the player! Meaning your asisting Kirby with taking her out. That is fucking brilliant and I only realised now as an adult.
Things Marx soul got from this boss, "soul", Raining paint thingies, Cutter, That double hadoken attack, Final boss, God awful screech when you kill it

Did You know...that you can do small but continuous damage to Drawcia's Soul by tapping her with the Stylus?Almost feels like you're fighting alongside Kirby.
Best part of the game tbh. I just wish the rest of the game had interesting stuff like this because for the most part it just feels like a tech demo for what the stylis can do
Also this game shows how good the DS is at manipulating backgrounds. I wouldn't be surprised if the background when Drawcia does her fire attack is the normal one but extremely stretched and orange. This is a big improvement over the SNES, GBA and even Sega CD's mode seven graphics!
Why is it that in Kirby games, it starts out really cute, and then at the end, you fight something from a nightmare? It's kind of like scarfies. They start out cute, and then they turn into a one eyed, exloding face-eater.

They should make a Kirby final boss that is based around music
And it should be related/similar to Drawcia/Claycia/Paintra
It would be called Musica or something like that probably.
I’d love to see a Kirby rhythm game. Dedede’s Drum Dash doesn’t count!
@Competition For LOST, wonder how that would work, since music in games are whole audio files instead of several samples with pitch changes for parts of a song like the SNES, DS, or GBA.

The Soul bosses are always so creepy and out of place in Kirby, I love it. This music was kickass too.
I like how, most of the time, it's you, the player, against Drawcia Soul. Kirby has little to no imput during the whole fight.
And now, kids, you know where the inspiration for witch lairs in Madoka Magica came from.

Literally all the bosses of the series are like this, buddo, tho this is one of the freakiest, yes
I think a few of Chaos Elfilis’ 2nd phase attacks are inspired from Drawcia Soul. Actually most of them are.
Is because is so similar
The paint in Drawcia isn’t blue and pink like other soul forms
The same goes for Chaos Elfilis ink attack
Or what about the background being a mix of colors in both battles?
Drawcia laid the groundwork for every soul boss in kirby
this entire level literally feels like a fanmade weird-creepypasta kirby game. ita weird how marx's screech gets talked more than whatever drawcia soul has going on

Drawcia is by far one of the creepiest bosses in any Kirby game
Listen to the Drawcia Soul music with headphones. It is absolutely outrageous!
Proof that Kirby is "Y-know, for kids":
-Drawcia Soul (this): A huge glob of paint with a freaky looking mouth, five eyes and she screams like CRAZY!!
-Marx Soul (the scariest one): An awesomely designed zombie jester that screams when he dies and it will hurt ANYONE'S ears, makes the most gruesome face that turns into two and just explodes!(pure nightmare fuel)
-Magolor Soul: A weird creature with 3 eyes (everyone thinks it's Zero) who is possessed by the Master Crown and screams Kirby's name in agonizing pain.

Yeah. I REALLY Hate Drawcia Soul's Scream...Compared To MARX SOUL'S SCREAM!
Why is every soul boss so creepy? This is a horrifying ball of paint, Marx's soul ending scream is just so creepy, Magolor's soul is scary just like dark matter (since he's dark matter reborn), and the soul of Sectonia's laughs are just terrifying...
What about star dream soul OS
That game came out after this comment
+desolate land nostalgia. that's what happened.
There is no solid proof that Magolor is related to Dark Matter.
+desolate land It's creepy too because you can hear screams if you hit the boss (The heart boss)
Most other Soul Bosses: Here's a souped-up version of the original boss. Nothing more, nothing less, but it's still kinda cool.
Drawcia Soul: HERE'S A GIANT ORB OF PAIN THAT SCREAMS AT YOU
heck i forgot about the other soul bosses that can turn into orbs of pain as well but they don't scream at you so they dont count
I mean, Magolor Soul (Wii version) is really the only one that matches the first part.
But yes, Drawcia is a legend.
Anyone remembers how those smiling blocks gave you nightmares when you were younger, and then you never played the game again? It’s still horrifying
I somehow find the Smiling Paintings a bit unnerving since they’re staring at Kirby.
TheGamer6866
Ah, thanks for clarifying. ^^ kinda hard to tell sometimes just watching the video, haha
She thought she had all the power, but she didn't so she's throwing everything at Kirby now to (try to) stop them. That also causes a fucked up world with all the power she's using at Kirby, meaning fucked up music.
Dash Aradele Also can we take a moment to talk about disturbing it is that drawcia soul has properties of static
Trippy background in the first battle phase reminds me of giygas
I want your opinion:
Do you think it's more epic for Kirby to lay the final blow on Drawcia Soul or the player
