I have followed everything you said and still I can't get subtitles to work in VLC. I have been trying to solve this problem for awhile now with no success. The only way I can get subtitles to work is to burn it in and then I don't have the option of turning it off. It is very frustrating searching and searching and searching the internet and not one thing works for me.

I always search for subtitles using the two methods, by name and by hash, and I always get "NO RESULTS" !!
Well you have to refresh and try again. At times you need to restart or reset vlc media player. It will eventually work

Yes i can understand ur concern, what u have to do is synchronise subtitle, for this u have go to " show extended settings". This option is available beside the play, pause, fast forward option, click on it and there u will see synchronisation and click on it, there u will find subtitle track synchronisation and there u can hasten and delay the subtitle... And adjust it and get the perft audio-subtitle synchronisation. Hope u find this helpful.

Ok.. Just follow these steps properly:
If your subtitles are playing before the scene then you have to delay the subtitles and if the subtitles are playing after the scene.. Then you have to hastened it...by adjusting seconds.. These options are available on the subtitles bar
