    I’m a carpenter and I’ve been wearing red wing Mocs and apparently they don’t make them like they used too. Noticed faults in both pairs and they get completely tore up before a year old. Gonna try these black danners next. Definitely getting that sno seal too. Makes them look even better! Thanks for the video man

    These will be my 8th pair of Danners. The US made Danners are exceptional. I used the Danner Boot Care conditioner on 3 pairs of Acadias and they look brand new. My first pair of Acadias are 8 years old and still going strong. Original everything on the boots. Even the laces. I'm looking forward to getting my black Bull Runs this week. I'll condition them and put em on. I heard it takes a week or two before they're broken in. Not a big deal when I know they're gonna bring YEARS of comfort and reliability. Thanks for your video. It was really informative.

    The Danner Matterhorn boots are good cold weather boots. Wore them in the Army for cold climates and snow. After retirement, have continued to wear them for hunting.
    Will try some of these for knocking around.

    The Danner Bull run is a nice light heritage type boot and while it's comfortable I've found they have some characteristics to be aware of. First I find them to run narrow. I have always worn an 8.5D and needed a EE in the Bull run, other than the Chelsey. The other is that the soft plain toe creases hard and pinches down and rubbed the top of my toes to the point I wouldn't want to walk very far in them. The Mac toe is like slightly stiffer sneakers.

  • @rawbacon
    @rawbacon 4 роки тому +3

    Hopefully they don't discontinue them now that you've found something that really works for you, that's usually what happens to me when I find something I really like.
    I think most times it's not worth resoling but one thing you can do when the tread gets worn smooth is put some shallow grooves in them on the table saw and you'll have a bunch of new edges that really grip on slippery surfaces. You don't want to go too deep or things like pebbles can wedge in the grooves......I basically like to go at a 45 degree every inch to an inch and a half then do the same in the opposite direction creating an x or crisscross type of pattern giving grippy edges in multiple directions.
    I once wore a new pair of boots that weren't broken in out on the job.....Talk about a long day as I realized they were digging in just towards the top of my heels, by the end of the day my skin was blistered and worn right off..............Lesson learned, always bring your old boots along when you're breaking in a new pair.

    • @RightOnJonCrane
      @RightOnJonCrane  4 роки тому +1

      Right! That has happened to me with a few pairs of boots and shoes! I had some nice leather Patagonia shoes that they discontinued! I was hunting them down on eBay. Great tip there on the table saw! Reminds me of my buddy who puts grooves in all his clamp handles on the table saw! 👍🏼

    Thanks! 6-inch., moc toe, Sno-Seal, USA made - only way to go! It's probably not the eyelets, it's the laces. It seems the laces market has been cornered by the Chinese and laces have gone to shit. If you're lucky, you might find an Old School cobbler who has some NOS, real-deal TASLAN laces stuck away. In my experience, it's better to clean old laces than to buy the new junk. TASLAN laces used to outlive the boots. Never thought I would be washing shoe lases!

    Ive been wearing wedge sole mock toe boots for over 20 years as a concrete construction worker/contractor. There is no better type of boot for this type of work or a tradesmen, but it has to be a good brand like this one. I used to wear Sears DieHards forever but they went way downhill with quality so now switching to Danner and thorogoods. Im going to wear and compare the Thorogood wedge mock toe with the Danner bull run and also the Quarry to make a decision on which will be my new boot for rest of career

    • @RightOnJonCrane
      @RightOnJonCrane  4 роки тому +1

      @@RightOnJonCrane ya the Sears DieHards used to be a very good boot but the last 3 pair I had the soles fell apart within 4 months, the last pair sold split of shoe in only 3 months.

    • @Ricopolico

      Watch out for those Thorogoods. They might now be more of a marketing company than a bootmaker. I bought a pair of their jodhpur boots to spare my feet during my yearly trips to NYC (LOTS of walking). Thought they'd be just what I needed since Thorogood sold them as service boots for cops on foot patrol. Sure were comfortable, BUT after wearing them less than 30 times over a period of about 2 1/2 years, the soles DISINTEGRATED! When I called Thorogood, they said that was the nature of the PUR soles - then why the hell use it? What really pissed me off is that they couldn't rebuild them, even on MY dime! For work (industrial construction) I always wore moc-toed Red Wings with no complaints.

    Hey Jon. I appreciate the video/review, however, you might want to check out some other youtube channels that specialize in maintaining/caring for(cleaning & conditioning) shoes/boots. Trenton and Heath are a highly respected channel that has a ton of experience and are cobblers. Here is some info on caring for Danner boats, directly from Danner's website. "Try to avoid animal-based products like beeswax and mink oil. Our Danner Boot Dressing offers three benefits: it conditions, waterproofs, and adds a little shine back into the leather. The dressing is offered in three different colors: black for black boots, brown for dark brown boots, and clear for all other colors. If you're looking for a more natural finish without influencing the color of your boots, it is recommended that you use the clear boot dressing or the Danner Leather Conditioner, which offers more of a matte finish.
    " I understand you have stock in that wax but, probably not a best practice to properly maintain the specific leather that Danner uses. Hope that was all helpful.
    Best regards, and Happy New Year!

      Hi Shaun, absolutely! Use what works best for you. 👍 I’ve been using Sno Seal for 30 years with great results! I do lots of leatherwork in my shop and use it on lots of different leather. I personally really like the look and protection it gives the leather. I have had these Danner Bull run boots for a year now and they look and feel great. What I can go on is my own experience. I’m sure what you recommend works great too! I know Danner has watched my video and said they thought it was great. I appreciate your feedback and recommendations!

    Just got my replacement pair of mountain light's NOT mountain light II which i'll cover in a video of what the differences are, after 2 failed trips to portland they didn't have the particular one I wanted instock at the particular store so I ordered it online Wednesday got them friday morning. Before wearing the danners and eddie bauer clones I usually always had some kind of higher end salomon trail cross boots or shoes. Salomon have a 2 year warranty I believe because I was able to get a pair replaced after a year from the company as well. It pays off to be a customer of certain brands when you spend that extra money. I hope to get some nicks made eventually to treat myself someday lol =) Anywho glad you like your Danners also!

      I’d say this is more of a work boot. The tread on the sole is not very deep. I have hiked in them but they would not be good on slippery rocks such as hiking through a river. For Hiking I recommend the Lowa Renegade GTX or the Vasque Sundowner. Right On 👍

    I have a pair of 6" steel toe Bull Runs that I wear almost everyday as my field boot as a beekeeper. Once they've been waxed they are a perfect boot for beekeeping. I walk a lot in the bee yards and carry heavy stuff and they are easily the most comfortable work boots I've worn in this job. I kick supers and boomers with the steel toe and the boots are consitently covered in dirt, honey, bee s**t, wax, and sagebrush. They have never once let me down and can easily be repaired or restored at my local boot shop.
    Are they perfect for every job or application? Probably not, but they are the absolute bee's knees for what I do everyday. If you work a job where they will be constantly wet, then these probably aren't the boots for you. If you can't take care of your boots, then these aren't the boots for you. These are boots for big boys.
