Really scary thing is that a similar debate to this has happened twice in the real world:
During the Cuban Missile Crisis a Soviet sub armed with nuclear torpedos was detected by the US ships enforcing the blockade/quarantine around Cuba. The Americans launched signalling depth charges to force the sub to surface (so not technically an act of war) and the sub captain thought they were real depth charges. He had no contact with Moscow and ordered the nuclear Torpedos to be fired but his XO Vasily Arkhipov refused to authorise the launch. An argument broke out and he managed to pursuade the captain to surface and get confirmation from Moscow.
The second time was in 1983 when the Soviet early warning radar mistook sunlight reflecting off high altitude cloud for ICBM launches from bases in the US. In this case an officer for the Soviet Air Defence Force, Stanislav Petrov, decided to wait for corroborating evidence before immediately relaying the warning up the chain-of-command (in breach of standing orders). His reasoning was that, if NATO were to launch a first strike, they wouldn't launch just 5 missiles; they'd launch everything.

100% agree about dogs! I love dogs, cats and all other animals! However, a submarine is no place for pets/animals, women, kids... *** Still, a good movie!

I'm not exactly sure how to explain it but I think you missed it here 4:11.
I could immediately feel the racial tension. The whole it was a short list thing.
Hunter's credentials spoke for themselves. So his comment seemed crude and out of taste.
The fire in the galley and his comments about the chief's weight was the second red flag.
So when 29:41 comments about the horses came around came it made perfect sense and didn't surprise me!

People talk about people having an emotional support dog being a weakness but Badass Gene Hackman having one in this movie?…never mentioned.

I disagree that Hunter was being insubordinate or belligerent towards Ramsay by bringing up the fact that the galley fire could flare up again.
It feels like part of the scene was cut, and Hunter was supposed to press the issue more. That would put the scene in the captain's stateroom into a better context.
But then after Ramsay makes his speech about having a unified chain of command and not questioning each other in front of the crew, he gets on the 1MC and shits on his own XO to the entire crew as a broadcast.
I feel like that sequence of events really undermined the character of Ramsay. It would have been more interesting if the missile drill scene showed Hunter being insubordinate, and also cut the scenes of Ramsay undermining Hunter... and cut the scene with Ramsay holding the gun to the junior officer's head to get one of the senior officers to do his bidding.

This movie is loosely based on the Humphrey Bogart film ‘The Caine Mutiny’ and also got a ghost written script polish by Quentin Tarantino

Great acting on all parts from the cast and the writers of the movie but man, I hated how so many of the officers and crew went against Hunter AFTER taking out a rogue Russian Akula class submarine. They would’ve thought of him as the ultimate badass man

@@KisstheReviews if you really liked this film, maybe you should check out By Dawns Early Light, it’s a similar movie to Crimson Tide according to the plot not to mention the fact that it really is realistic to how the military operates and an extremely scary scenario, even more so than in this movie

I forgot to say, I love the score of the film. Very memorable. Btw, last weekend, I saw a 1995 Hong Kong TV show, ‘The King of Gamblers’. It frequently played the aforementioned score. Here’s a ‘proof’. This is the 39th episode. The CT score is played from 00:36:43 onwards. ua-cam.com/video/WMWTX31lFhs/v-deo.html
