    Great job! I built one a few years ago but used regular untreated tongue and groove. It stays under our patio so I wasn't to worry about it sitting in the rain but I think I'll redo it with some cedar. I like the magnet for the door too. I did Put wheels on the bottom of mine so I can move it around on our concrete patio.

    this actually came out quite gorgeous. im tempted to do the same now instead of just buying one. thanks for the video.

    Nice build 👍 I'm not sure if you know this, but the red silicone cap on the glue bot will slide onto the nub in the middle of the fill cap and keeps it out of your way.

      How long have I been using glu bots and I had no idea?!! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣🤣

      I was going to cut the cap off because it kept dangling into my glue, it was driving me nuts, then I just had a eureka moment.
      Although it's probably in the instructions. One day, we'll all start reading them. Today is not that day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either 😂

    That is one sharp looking fire table. I like the use of magnets to attach the access door to. Gives it a nice clean look. Well done John!

    I’ll be using your purchased items. I’m curious how much do you have invested, compared to buying one? Serious question b/c I’m on the fence of building or buying. Great job👊🏻

    we are building one now, but using pallets and leftover tongue and groove from our patio cover ceiling, so the wood cost is zilch. gonna be pretty heavy base though, thinking of just putting the propane tank on the exterior with a hose and propane tank cover (a million options on Amazon), plus the horizontal tank is expensive.

    Thats a great build. I did one of these for my dad a few years ago and couldn’t find anyone that did a concrete top. My process I worked out was exactly like yours after watching a ton of countertop videos, but I used a piece of rigid foam insulation for the center cutout as I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to get a melamine square to release cleanly. It made removing that center piece after curing super easy. I used 2 of the mini propane tanks on mine, but I really like the larger tank you used on its side. My mini tanks went in through 2 single panel doors I put on the front of the table. I really wish I would have seen this a few years ago, it would have save me a ton of time researching that project.

      Thanks man! The horizontal tank sure is nice. All the store bought tables you can buy, all use regular vertical tanks and I just think that makes the table too tall. Good idea with the 2 small tanks though!

      It’s the same thing. Just lay some deck boards down, leave a gap between them, and screw a few cleats on the bottom to hold them together.

    Maybe a dumb question, but how do you sand the cedar, specifically the edge profiles, without messing them up? Do you have to do it all by hand?

    • @JohnBuildsIt
      @JohnBuildsIt  Рік тому +1

      Stack multiple pieces together so the sander is more stable and won’t roll off, and then yea I usually do the last grit by hand

  • @ethanfusek5272

    Have you had any issue with the propane hose melting and leaking gas due to been so close to the burner pan? I read someone had this issue on another video and it cause a fire under the table. It could have exploded. I am planning to use a metal hose but wondering if it happens.

    • @JohnBuildsIt
