Our ADOS is in 5 weeks time. Our paediatrician has said he believes my daughter has autism but needs to do the ADOS to finalise her diagnosis

My daughter is 3.5 and has just been put on the waiting list for an ADOS assessment. We have seen signs since she was 18 months. Can I ask how long the whole process took from waiting list to your daughter's assessment? Thanks

I know this video is a few years old (not even sure if you'll see this comment) but in the chance that you do I really wanted to show my gratitude. We just did the ADOS test with my boy yesterday and having watched this video I felt so much more prepared and calm for him going into it. I know that I'm not alone in benefiting by this, please know that what you did here was an amazingly helpful thing to do. It probably wasn't easy sharing your story so thank you thank you thank you I can't express how much I appreciate it.

Oh Claire, I'm so glad it helped in some way! Hope you're ok after the assessment, it can be emotionally draining (more so for the parents than the kids really) but I promise it all gets easier afterwards when you know what you are dealing with xx

My 13 yr old ( also ADHD and has sensory issues )had his ADOS assessment at the beginning of December got the results about 6 weeks later ..... indicating high ASD traits I’d have to look at the letter for scores but they were really high have an appointment with the consultant next week for a diagnosis 🤞🏼it has took us 8 years to get to this point and it’s an ongoing battle !
I’m so glad you have had this so early on it makes such a difference to them and their schooling x

Thank you for the very helpful video. My daughter is 14 and due an Ados assessment by March, the Ados is all new to me. My son was diagnosed at 5 and a half, he's now 10 and he never had the Ados assessment. A video on the diagnosis would be helpful too x

Very interested video. Looking forward to hearing more. My daughter is nearly 4. Likely to be assessed later in the year as from speech theraphy assessments they have said they don’t want to give her the wrong label as hard to diagnose in girls x

We had our full assessment for my 13 year old via an online diagnosis with a company called Healios. I recognise many of the tasks my son was asked to do from your video. It was so much harder with an older child as he was aware he was being tested for autism and he found it very upsetting when he just couldn't do some of the things he was being asked to do. I was watching carefully while he had the assessment and I found it so hard watching him struggle. I also had big concerns that a video assessment would not be enough for a therapist to see where he was struggling. This was naive on my part as these therapists miss nothing. I wish we could have got through the system when he was younger to make it easier for him - although I found it easier to get a diagnosis on an older child than when we got it for my younger child aged 5 as he is already shown he can navigate life so its easier to see a fulfilling life for him as an adult. When my youngest was 5 - it was hard to see beyond the stages we were at then and it was harder to imagine that future. I am in admiration that you recognised the signs in your daughter and could successfully navigate the system to get this for her.

My 6 yr old had the assessment just under yr ago. It took a while to get this as I’d suspected something since he was around 18 months 2 yrs old. He had speech delays (he didn’t talk more than the odd word until he was 4) and other issues . They assessed him as over 5 for a large part of the assessment and assessed him for under 4 for another part due to his speech issues. It came beck as not having ASD and no other issues. I have been told I can not see the Video they took of him. I was basically told that due to me working with adults with ASD for yrs that I putting this on him and that all his interactions where normal. But the school are now wanting him to go back for the assessment due to still having speech issues, behavioural issues, tip toeing sensory issues and delays in learning. As the senco has put it he has issues that need unpicking.

My son hasn’t yet, but he has app with speech and language this week and he sees a occupational therapist, and then back at paediatrician in 2 month after she has all the paperwork decide if he needs one, his school referred him for sensory processing issues, he just starting the process so this has been most helpful, thanks

It’s really hard to differentiate his traits and he also has really bad vision and is patching at moment and using drops to blur his better eye, also struggles with fine and gross motor skills so it very hard to work out what what, he speaks well (he just turned 4) but his teachers think he has just memorised sentences rather than actually understands and he often speaks gobbly gook when he overwhelmed x

This video is so helpful! I have a 10 year old who presents with a lot of traits of a female presentation. Her school are one board and agree we are awaiting a visit from an educational psychologist. The more i read the more i can identify with these traits throighout her little life. Like everywhere the wait is years. I am fortunate to have savings to go private..were your childrens assessments through a private clinic ?
Thank you again for sharing your experience ❤

Are there any questions about sensory issues? The majority of my daughter's symtoms are sensory related: around clothes, food, smells etc. She can be quite social so I'm scared they will say shes not autistic even though she has meldowns over her socks because she'll make eye contact!

So I'm in Bridgend... My boy is age 4.5 and in mainstream school and doc has completely fobbed us off and has said via school... It's painfully slow. I raised the concern a year ago and he still haven't had this guy come in to see him to even see if he needs to be assessed??! His teachers agree he needs to be
So how long have you had to wait for assessment from initial raised concern? Our HV is nice but I think she's also said because he's in school it's their responsibility. Even if this guy comes in from LEA to see him we'll have a 2 year wait and private is around £2.5k locally

I'm finding these videos insanely helpful. I suspect my DD1 has ASD of some kind because she has some of these markers, we have just thought she was quirky, intense and particular and that was just the way she is until I started watching your videos and I realised there were so much more lack of eye contact, inappropriate laughing, will only mimic story play not create her own and she has to control all play with other children and her sister. I am afraid of nervous of getting an appt with the GP to discuss as they'd expect her with me and I don't want to say all these things infront of her and make her self-concious, equally I'm nervous if I mention it to the school they'll think I'm paranoid. What would you advise?
