Hi Nikki. I have just finished my first week doing SW and I lost 3 1/2lbs. This is amazing for me as I am disabled and not very mobile... i can walk with a stick but don't have the stamina to do exercises per say. I decided that, at 50yrs old, I am going to take control over ALL aspects of my life. I have type 2 diabetes and within the week my sugar levels have come down from an average of 13.... to 8!!!!! I am so chuffed with myself.. I feel almost invincible, like I can do anything I put my mind to. I think the key to success, at least for me, is chasing away my food demons and taking back control. Loving your channel ( I am a new subscriber) Take care my lovely. xxxx

Thanks so much I love your videos they help so much. Just come home after a really busy day at work and poured a really large glass of fizz - now going onto the diet cokes! Really needed this video tonight thanks so much! Loved the visualisation tips! When I think about what keeps me going, it’s starting the day right with a good, easy breakfast of speed food and a bit of my healthy extra A! Once I’ve started the day the slimming world way I find it easy to continue the day like it! Keep going everyone - we can reach our goals!!! Happy weekend!! Xxx

Hi Nikki, loved this video. I always ask successful slimmers how they keep their motivation high. Your tip on not relying on motivation was a real thunderbolt moment for me. I’ve been unsuccessfully relying on motivation for about 25 years now. Not relying on motivation and sticking to the lifestyle change might seem obvious to others but it is an absolute game changer for me!!!! Thank you so much. Oh and massive congratulations on your baby news so pleased for you and Chris 👶🏼👶🏼

Hello Nicky, I’ve just subscribed , I first joined slimming world in Feb 2015, 15 months before my wedding and lost nearly 2 stones. I’d lost 4 st by Feb 2018, but I was diagnosed with Adrenal Insufficiency and prescribed steroids for life. Over 10 months, I gained over 4.5 stones, my endocrine consultant was no help at all, he said I’d have to rake weight gain as a side event of steroids and I’m alive so be grateful🙀.
I emailed S.W. Who were so supportive. I rejoined last jan and I’m nearly at the end of a year of food optimising, and over 3.5st lighter, well on my way to target.
I’m sticking a bit at the moment, and your 2 questions about the importance we put on our weight loss, and how invested we are at the moment have given me motivation, so here’s to hitting my target soon.
Good luck with your journey, you will do it 👍🏻

Thanks that really helped alot. What you said about not always having the motivation I really needed to hear. I start doubting myself when I lose the motivation for a week here and there, I always wondered if the people with big weight losses suffered with lack of motivation at times too. Xx

Nikki, you are just fab! This came at just the right time. Stressful day in work and I was all too ready to reach for the chocolates I was saving as a gift! I'd earned them, right? Then, like a magical fairy, this video fluttered into my subs box and reminded me that, actually, what I had earned was the feelings of self confidence, the way I feel in my office wear and the joy when able to buy a size smaller. They're of far greater value to me than the chocolates. So back in the bag they went and instead I'm having a lovely bubble bath, popping on some cheesy tunes and a facepack and slipping into my new PJ's for dessert! You're brilliant and I can completely see how you've soared in your SW career.
    My tips would be.
It's never about can't. You can have everything. Cake? I can have it McDonald's? Yes, I can have it. Extra large glass of red? I definitely can have it. I just *choose* not to. The choice is mine. I have the power to make a decision, I have the power to make a choice. There's no I can't help myself or I can't have things. I can and I *choose* not to. I think once you realise you have that ability it becomes a lot easier to say no.
Hope this helps anyone else! xx

Fab video!! Consistency for me is about not giving up! Like your post said, be like a stamp and stick at it till you get there...but more than that, stick with it once you get there too! The worst mistake I made was getting to target, seeing slimming world as a short term thing, quitting group and now I’m back where I started. You have to have control and going to group helps you keep that. No slim person eats what they want in unlimited amounts and stays slim and neither can we! Xx

Nikki your videos are fab! This one is definitely really helpful! I use visualisation but in a different way, I write everything down. If I have to write it down I’m less likely to eat it but also seeing what I’ve ate in a day helps me to reflect on where I’ve done well or could have been better! Can’t wait to see the next video! X

Great tips. My motivation is to do this for my kids as well as myself, to be a good influence to them and hopefully set them up with healthy eating habits for life. 6 weeks in and it's working already, when my 2 year old sees me eating my bits of fruit, she wants some too and she actually eats it all whereas before she would just take a bite then leave it. I felt like a hypocrite before pushing fruit on them when I didn't touch it myself (I love fruit but would always choose a biscuit over an apple before - not now). The whole family is enjoying healthy meals packed with veggies. Definitely a way of life I want to keep.

I left this video feeling like I can! 3 days till weigh in, going to be hard to turn it around as I’ve had a ‘social’ weekend but i know i can. Those two questions were the biggest help. Hi Nikki I’m a BIG believer in the law of attraction! I’ve just done my stay at home weigh in and I’ve gained a couple of pounds and am thinking what can I do to get back on track and your video has just popped up! I can’t tell you how much this has been just what I needed today! The best tip for me is the visualisation tip. Before I got weighed me and the hubby were thinking of, would you believe, having a Chinese takeaway and wine tonight! Hey Nikki great video, brill topic. My favourite tip from your list is SW is a lifestyle not a diet. That's how I try to work it or else I'd give it up. My rules I set myself are - I must attend Group EVERY Week AND stay to class. If life takes over and I can't make my usual class I must attend another one at another time/on another day but I must attend a class every week. I must lose something EVERY Week no matter how small. If I maintain I must lose the following week (I added this one last week because for the first time I put on half a pound last week after maintaining the previous week. I was so upset with myself but don't allow myself to dwell on the negative for too long because I need to get back in the saddle asap). If I maintain more than 1 week in a row I must stop and work out where I'm going wrong (start noting down what passes my lips at the time I'm planning to eat it and not leave it until later because I will forget accidentally on purpose!) Don't ignore gains or make excuses either but be honest with myself. If I go on holiday or attend a celebratory meal out try when possible to apply the Plan guidelines so that any gains are kept to a minimum (This really works for me). Food is to be enjoyed so I don't treat any foodstuff as a treat (I treat myself to nail polish etc, NOT food). If I really want it then I syn it, have it and enjoy it (in that order). If it's not worth the syns then I don't have it. If it's expensive and I still desire it then at least I know how much damage I've done! There's probably a few more but that's mainly it!

Great video, thank you for sharing. I am still in weight loss mode, and these tips probably don’t apply for anyone maintaining, but
    1. I have set myself (non-food) rewards - I’m coming up to my 3 stone award and you’d better believe I’m off to the shops after that!
    2. Before having children I was a size I really liked, and so occasionally I try on my “before” clothes from different weight stages. I recently just fit into 4 pairs of jeans that I thought I would never see again. Fitting into “old” clothes is a great motivator and can help when the scales aren’t showing the losses you’d like but your body is.
Next up, some research on visualization

  • @psychologycontact9921
    @psychologycontact9921 6 років тому

Thank you, Nikki, for making this invaluable video. I found the visualisation and motivation points the most useful, as these are my weak points for self-sabotage. But I found the whole video useful. I've thought a lot about why I am not consistent with my weight loss when I am consistent with everything else. For example, when I decided to stop smoking, cold turkey, seven years ago, I just did it. Where I seem to go wrong with weight loss is that it's so open to other people's input. Weight loss is a deeply personal, intimate, process concerning personal decision one makes about their body. I find it so annoying when people pass comments like, "You've lost enough weight but now you NEED to stop." It feels like invasion of privacy. I feel like wearing a sign on my forehead that says "DO NOT COMMENT ON MY WEIGHT. MY WEIGHT IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS." I am not someone who feels comfortable with having any attention on me that weight loss just makes me want to comfort eat to stop the invasive and controlling comments.
Another thing that affects me is staying to group at SW because of consultants' behaviour. Obv. you are professional and one in a million and I am, therefore, so thankful for this medium of support. But the consultants that work in my area are massively overweight and quite bitchy. Staying to group does not motivate me to do better. It only commits me to an unhealthy influence and an unhealthy relationship in my life. This motivates me to self-sabotage as I leave group unhappy and having to carry their issues on my shoulders. Further, obese consultants cannot share vital information about consistency because they do not have it. I find that there is a LOT of unproffessionalism in the pool of SW consultants because they lack the personal skills to be worthy of a "consultant" title; that is, someone who is committed to practice what they preach and can leave their personal dislike of a member, at the door. SW head office have a total hands-off approach to this common problem and leave it to customers to resolve.
If you can, please do not judge me for being so negative. I'm just crying for the right support and I have had bad experiences in response. I am, however, so thankful for you and what it evidently a personal committment to excellence so large that it spans not only multiple groups but to your world-wide audience, as well. I totally see you as SW CEO, one day. Lots of love to you. x x x

I love this! Thanks for posting it, it's really going to help.
I have a couple of tips I us:
    1. Is when I really feel like I'm craving something that has a super high syn value, and feel like it's that and no alternative or SW swap will do, I tell myself I can have it "tomorrow". The next day, if I still feel like I really must have it, I have it, although very often, I wont feel like it anymore. I sometimes I can say it again the next day too, most times, I find the "craving" wears off by the next day and if it doesn't, that's fine, I have it, enjoy it, and move on. I feel it helps with those times when it might actually be emotional eating.
    2. Is I create a "bubble" around myself. If I know I will have a day ahead of me where I might be faced with making some healthier choices where there might be not so healthy choices there too, I literally lift my arms above my head, close my eyes and create a circle around myself, moving my arms around me like a Tia chi move!! I might look a bit like a nutter when I'm outside the party, in the car about to go in and join my friends, but it works for me - I guess it's very like the visualisation tip. As I "draw" the circle around me, I say out loud "Only the healthy choices will get through". Sometimes I just do it randomly through the day, or before I get out of bed!
Hopefully some of you will find that useful, or at least give you a giggle!!

Hey Nikki, fellow vlogger here! I am going to try visualisation! I was actually talking about that last week in therapy for a different thing but it works the same. I've had a massive set back with my health but I've still lost 10st! I'm getting back to vlogging my journey soon and I've still so much to learn. Thanks for this video, it's really helped x

Love your videos! I joined SW about 3 weeks and I’ve lost 11.5lbs! I went to Centre Parcs and all my meals were made from scratch and very speedy! Your videos are so inspirational and I really enjoy watching one every few days to keep me completely up to scratch on what’s going on. Also, congrats on the successful IVF! Would you be able to do a video on eating out in places like Pizza Express please like high street chain restaurants etc? X

Thanks for this, brilliant video! I particularly liked the part about visualization, something I need to give a proper shot. I've often tried to imagine myself being skinny (though not in a bikini, mind!), no excess skin, no flab, and if anything, that felt so unachievable that it can be the thing that sends me into comfort eating mode. So I've got the feature up on the SW website in a tab as I'm typing this.
What do you advise members who once reached target, or did really well, and then put a lot back on? I got down to 9st 4lbs, which I wasn't happy with because of still having a lot of flab/excess skin after losing almost 8 stone. I put 2 stone back on, and am currently in the process of slimming back down and figuring out what to do when I get back there. Currently 12lbs down since hitting the restart switch at the beginning of the year, but it feels a lot harder because that negative voice is much stronger, it often feels impossible to be happy in my body, and I often feel exhausted with the mental aspect of wanting to be happy in my skin! I started in September 2014, lost 6 stone over a year, went on a year abroad and maintained (as planned), came back and got down to 9st 4lb, then it all got even harder. The thing that kept me motivated is I always felt it was possible to have the body I wanted to badly, even at 17 stone. When I got down to 9st 4lbs, a healthy BMI just over 20, the amount of flab I had was more than a few pounds. I really hope I don't get down to that weight again and feel as hopeless!

Hi Nikki how do u cope with the disappointment of getting on the scales all pumped after a great wk on plan and not slipping at all to find ether u only have lost a very small amount or nothing at all? We always get told well it will show next wk but that doesn't help me and I go into fuck it mode!! I need to understand the small losses and why xx hope this makes sence lol

+Kat Harper it's so annoying. Only happened once on my original journey but had it since when exercising. Look for non scale proud ofs too. Who will.you hurt if you then blow it?!? Yourself. It HAS to show if you know you've been 100%. Sometimes though we think we have but have we.. food diaries or sas logs are fab in these situations x
