One of the first landmark childrens rights cases was legislated as an animal rights case. because the goverment could extend more protections to the child in question as an animal, than they could as a child.

The one about the dog ranch is actually sad because it's one of the last places that particular breed exists and they're leashed that way to prevent crowding them in a kennel, as it can lead to them developing severe anxiety.

There's a picture of toddler-me holding a lion cub. Thing is, it's a *cub,* not a full-ass *lion.* The cubs *have* to be handled by humans so they get used to it for feeding and medical exams. I have no problem with them making a little extra money on the side to help with the costs of keeping them happy and healthy. Same reason I don't have a problem with dolphin and whale shows and the like. They're performing tricks their handlers teach them, anyway, to keep them mentally active and facilitate healthcare. These are also *extremely* social animals that love the attention.
What that zoo did with their tigers? *Seriously* messed up. A squirrel raised by a house cat (it's happened) may end up being friendly with humans, but it's still a *squirrel.* You end up with similar results with squirrels raised normally in a public park or (even better) on a college campus. At least some of them are going to realize that humans are basically mobile trees with endless snacks and possibly active protection from predators. Besides that, *pigs?* *PIGS?* Those are *not* docile animals!! More docile than their wild cousins, but that *isn't saying much.*

The real f_d up thing about the polar bear dog video is that someone was sitting there recording it the whole time. Like ik you can't take on a polar bear to save your dog but idk.
It's more fucked up knowing the dog was chained up and couldn't escape so probably the dude taking the video purposefully left the dog there

It was someone’s pet just chained in the yard
From what I can tell about the original video. The dogs may be sled dogs so that explains why they would be tied outside in the cold as you train sled dogs completely differently than regular house pets, so non of that was the problem. It's how the polar bear got there the problem because from the story I know the person was feeding the polar bear which is why it was so close to the place and one day they didn't, so it decided to take one of the dogs.
