    I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

      This reel looks nice, but I hate the feel when reeling/retrieving. I returned mine after trying it out a couple times. The retrieve is not very smooth. Ended up buying a used 13 Metanium for $180…which is one of my favorite all time reels due to smoothness, casting, lightweight, and more! I wouldn’t recommend any of the SLX reels due to their overall lower quality and performance. I’ve heard the SLX DC is good, but I’d rather spend money on a Japan made Shimano, even if it’s older and pre-owned.

      If it's a Shimano reel, there are two spacers, one found copper, one squareish fiber, copper goes against the spool tension cap, fiber over the top of the copper, use a small amount of reel grease to stick them where they belong, always make sure they are where they belong before placing it back on the reel

    @ShimanoFish SEA: why so much bantam oil? I usually just add bantam oil to bearings, but I heard it’s better to used Shimano grease for the worm gear, thumb bar sides, etc. I feel like you would be mixing grease and oil by adding bantam oil to all the parts mentioned on the video.

    • @TrungLe-lw4zm

      It is better to use grease spray for certain parts. However it is perfectly fine to use the bantam oil instead because of the low viscosity

      How would the spray get past the shield or seal of the bearing? I think TackleJunky81 has the correct idea. Remove the shield or seal, flush thoroughly to get all grease out and then run with oil only OR go with dry ceramic bearings.@@TrungLe-lw4zm

    • @yangntau
      @yangntau 3 роки тому +2

      Take off handle by turning the opposite direction of how you’ll 🧵 when you reel. ( or some spin reels you have to take off the knob on the opposite side of you reel handle counter clockwise and by pulling the loose handle outwards it should slide out easy. Get some reel grease mostly it does come with a flat plastic looking flag or little brush and some do come with oil along with the grease. Then turn your drag the opposite way of how you tighten the drag so it’s loose it should come when it’s fully loose(the spool should be free now and pull up to get the spool out. Get the Grease (Bottle with brush or plastic dip flag) and put some grease on the metal spindle it should have a gear on there( Don’t take or mess with the little gear on top) just put grease on the parts of the little rod and your done with that part. After that get your oil so that you put one drops or two round cap the you took off to

      I normally oil mine every 2-3 months, (you could probably get away with 5 months before feeling a big difference)
      also, normally I use a cue tip around the spool rod, (the parts on the side of the spool) the worm gear (the peice that levels your line) and the whole that the spool rod goes into, (this removes dirt and makes the reel smoother!) After this, I'll just do what the video says
      Hope this helps out and answers your question!👍

    I have a Shimano SLX-150XG and when I unwinded the side-cap, there was a piece of plastic (round on one side and square on the other side) inside the side-cap. Is it supposed to be there or was I supposed to remove it when I bought it? It's loose, and it's not attached to anything. Also, I can't remove the spool from the reel all the way. Grease doesn't penetrate like oil plus it will attract more dirt when out "in the open". Grease is more suited for enclosed areas like the gears on a reel. For the same reasons you grease the inside of the hubs on a bicycle but put oil rather than grease on the chain..

  • @2003fxr
    @2003fxr Рік тому

    Shimano USA has maintenance videos, and they are ADAMANT about NOT oiling or greasing the spool shaft ends, saying tolerances are so tight, oiling or greasing actually hinders the spool spin, they recommend cleaning them, cleaning the inside of pinion gear and b-plate side and reassembly dry....so which is it????

    • @TrungLe-lw4zm
      @TrungLe-lw4zm Рік тому

      It depends on the type of oil. Bantam has low viscosity so after a month or two, it is perfectly fine to apply a drop on each side of the shaft without impacting the performance of it.
