Thanks for the video on pruning. I have one question. I’ve been pruning on a rosemary that I planted in my daughter’s garden I established years ago, she now does, since I moved to a new locale, doing great. I started a new rosemary @ my place 7 years ago, doing fine, keep it like a small tree. I will be moving soon, and I would like to transplant the existing rosemary in a pot. I don’t know how long it will have to stay in the pot, but I want it to be happy. Suggestions?
Thanks again! I went from the "rooting rosemary" to this one for pruning it & now can do both at once. Really like your simple, straightforward style. It keeps your videos at a length I can use. Thanks again!

So true! We just moved into a new house that has a ginormous Rosemary bush in the back yard. It is ridiculous. I will definitely be cutting it back, but stripping the branches I can to dry & save Rosemary for cooking ❤
Thanks for the helpful video. It gave me the confidence to give my rosemary much-need pruning. It was helpful to know that rosemary is pretty hardy and not likely to be killed easily!
I just discovered your video and channel and immediately subscribed. You are concise and clear in a pleasant conversational style. You give just the amount of info that I care about-enough and not too much. Thanks!
Very helpful video! Thanks! When we moved in to our new home a almost 2 years ago, we realized one of the plants in the garden spot near our driveway is a huge rosemary bush. I haven't done anything with it and now it's growing over into the driveway (probably a good 2ft into the driveway at this point). I've been thinking of starting new plants from it, but I also wanted to trim it back and was worried about damaging it. Taking the 2ft off would be a little less than a third of the plant so good to know I can whack away! And get some new plants while I'm at it.
Umm, that rosemary plant is insane 🤪. I had no idea it would grow that big. I don't think I knew it was a perennial. I have just taken the whole plant out and dried to use. Awesome.
Hello! Hope all is well. I watched your video on Rosemary prepping for the winter however, I have a very young rosemary plant. I transferred a flat into a large planter just this summer. I am not sure how I should prep it for the winter. Some tips would be appreciated. I can send a picture if needed. Thanks so much!! P.S. Can I just bring in the planter for the winter?
Hey Gloria, most definitely you can bring your Rosemary in for the winter. If leaving it outside, the top 3 things you can do are to water it heavily in the 4 weeks leading up to first frost, mulch heavily around the base, and to stop pruning 6-8 weeks before the fall frosts come. I have an overwintering Rosemary video here: ua-cam.com/video/7XzRG8xj5Bk/v-deo.html
This might be a stupid question, but I need to ask it... The rosemary that you cut off now, do you dry them? Are they still edible? Or do you compost them? I assume the dead cuttings would be composted
Not a stupid question at all! The dead branches I compost... But the live branches I either just as cuttings and start new plants or I dry and store the leaves for later. Nothing goes to waste!
Brown branches are usually dead branches. For whatever reason... Physical damage, old growth, plant can't support all the foliage... I don't necessarily cut all the flowering branches. I shape the plant in the summer when it gets too big, regardless of branch type.
great video! Our house we moved into has Rosemary bushes...ALOT like more than 10ft. We're not gardeners but since staying home and not working at the moment, my focus is now in my backyard. I could I tame this beast without killing it?? By looking at it some of the bushes are just crazy big and I don't know where to start. Any advice pls? thank you
Hey Corinne, definitely start chopping. Best to eliminate the dead and dying branches first to see what you're working with. After that, just shape the tree as you want it to look, giving it a good watering when you're done as it will be under some stress. Cheers!
The Ripe Tomato Farms a lot of the branches are kinda bare in some then Rosemary...should I take the Rosemary out as well? I’m afraid it’ll be barren...still proceed?
@@cseverin821 yeah, if they are bare, they aren't adding much to the plant. I do take a step back and look at the plant every few cuts to really look it as a whole from a different angle/perspective.
