Hi Graham, Bryan here, many thanks for your video on the Kenwood TR-751 faulty Volume pot, a great help and guide and turned out very a successfull result. gut the worst part was that little circlip, ended up attaching a small round magnet to the pliers to stop it flying off and loosing it! By the way got my licence back in 1968 and at the age of 82 still bombing about on the bands, may catch you on one of the bands in the future. 73's Bryan G8Bii.
Hi Bryan. Very well done fixing yours and I’m glad my video helped. I lost the little circlip once but luckily I was able to buy a replacement. I did check QRZ but looks like we haven’t had a QSO yet. 73’s Graham
I did my RAE in May 1974, and became G8JIC in the September. I passed the morse in 1993 and am now G0TEO. 50 years ... wow. I have just bought a Kenwood 751 from ebay. It already had the pots changed.
These radios have one of the best receivers of all. I have the 70cm version which is also an excellent radio. The problem with the controls is a common one but it's not an easy fix, you need good lighting and decent eyesight and some magnifying lenses etc. If you are not confident then don't attempt it.
Graham, if you need to do any delicate sanding or roughing up before appling a glue or coating invest in a little glass pen. I swear by mine. Great for exposing pcb tracks mainly but I've used them for things like this in the past. Just need to make sure you use some tape or a hoover to pick up the splinters as they can be a bugger under your nails. Also if you ever need some epoxy to go off quick try the UV setting stuff, just need a little UV torch.
Thanks for the tips. I do have a fibreglass pen which I use a lot. Melting the track into the plastic holder gives a very good mechanical bond and the glue is just to prevent it happening again. I’d like to give some of that UV cure glue a try sometime
@@Radiocruncher no worries Graham. I have an old Nevada MS-1000 scanner with a similar issue on a dual function pot (channel & squelch) that I'm trying to sort out at the moment :D
Muchas gracias por el magnifico tutorial para la reparación del potenciómetro multi función del equipo Kenwood TR 751 E . Potenciómetro OFF/ON + VOL+SQl. (Muy difícil de encontrar sustitución por otro que sea valido, no conozco ninguno para comprar que sirva para este equipo)
Hi. I don't think there was a part 2 but have a look at these links as It's the same radio. ua-cam.com/video/EF9TgiKlawY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/UGH-C7n3YBI/v-deo.html

These are nice radios. I didn't do my RAE until the late 90's
Bob Griffiths G7NHB was the RAE tutor in Plymouth.
Thanks for jogging my memory. Bob was a great tutor and got me through 1st time
Thanks for sharing this information. I have just done the af/squelch and rit and rf gain pots on mine. Fiddly but enjoyable and worth the effort.
Glad to be of assistance Adrian. I searched but couldn’t find a video on how to repair one so I’m sure this has helped a lot of people repair theirs

I’ve repaired the pots on a few of these now. I agree that they are very good radios
That kenwood is a nice looking radio and they always build top quality gear. Thanks regards Chris
It certainly is well made. Bit of a cliche but they don’t make em like this any more

Hi, new to your channel. Were you able to make a videothe 2nd part of the 751e assembly of the pots power/squelch? More power to your station 73! Jojo
Hi Jojo. Yes I did film a part 2 and it’s in the queue to be edited. Thanks for reminding me and for the support. 73 Graham
Enjoyed the stream again today Graham. I think it's a change to have some amateur gear for a change.
Thanks for sending it in for me to look at Derrick. Good to know they can be fixed and hopefully it will help others sort their radios
