    One thing I would say about big cbet strategies: it's really important that you know what you are doing on the turn and river, moreso than it would be if you are playing small cbets on the flop. If you don't know what you are doing on future streets, then you are just building a bigger pot for you to make mistakes in on future streets and hence costing yourself more money. I should know as I've been in such situations a lot. This video should help me out then I hope!

      Yep I agree, but there's an argument that says: if you have an edge you will win more when you amplify the edge by playing bigger pots more often. A good example of this is when we 3Bet hands that are mixes in theory BTN vs HJ because we generally have an edge as the IP 3-bettor in that line vs the OOP caller.

      Nope, I disagree. The reason being that big cbets tend to simplify the situation and end the hand on the flop, whereas small cbets invite flop raises and extend the hand into deeper streets. This is a strategy that good, aggressive players often seem to use, allowing them to work with more cards and apply more pressure. Therefore, it actually seems to be the opposite - you really need to know what you’re doing on the flop, turn, and river when you start with a small cbet.

    Amazing vid as always. Speaking of Probe Monkeys: that’s what I always tell people to do when they see that villain checks back these flops that they should just blast 100% range on turn (depending on turn of course…) and print money 😂

    So I may have missed this, but what qualifies as big bet in SRP here... b75 b125?

    Is the EV difference between this strat and betting range significant enough for me to learn this as a NL25 player?
    Or is it helpful to try implement this strat regardless of the EV difference because it may help develop better thoughts on the game in other spots?

      I think there is an argument both ways. On the one hand there may be lower hanging fruit to study right now, on the other hand the second statement is 100% true and learning how to play more polarised strategies accurately will do wonders for your poker development. By studying the theoretical merits of such an approach we can learn how to spot good exploitative spots for sizing up.

  • @jeegee-cx7ss

    The ev difference betting 33% or 66% on this board is basically non existent theoretically. Exploitatively, it may even be better to go 33%. Is there a particular reason you think we should go for the bigger size?

    • @CarrotCornerPoker
      @CarrotCornerPoker  2 місяці тому +7

      I think that if you can learn how to play a big bet strategy properly on this board and boards like it that it does wonders for your understanding of the game and how to construct properly polarised betting ranges in general, not just equity driven ones you’re referring to as polarised. I also think there’s a tonne of exploitative situations where bigger bets are higher EV and so knowing the theoretical reasons for betting big can help you realise what those are. People love to talk about how B33 performs better as a bluff in reality than it does in theory since you get raised less than in theory and it’s a bit overfolded but they rarely point out that value hands can lose ev with B33 for these same reasons. I don’t disagree on the theoretical ev loss being negligible but I think there’s so much more to learning a strategy like this than its ev at equilibrium compared to that of another strategy.

      I agree with all this. I think it’s a logistical consideration. Do you want to feel smart or make more money. Maybe both. Speaking to the big flop bets in general. I prefer range small and simplifying my strategy so I arrive at the river and execute a strat I understand inside and out. That way I can open more tables with fish and earn more money.

    • @JohnRamboooo
      @JohnRamboooo 2 місяці тому

      From my experience it’s not difficult whatsoever to play against large cbets. And most people fuck future streets anyway because they become more difficult and less repeatable as textures change.

    • @JohnRamboooo

      So whatever micro EV I may have most I’m making up by opening more tables

      I’m not shitting on your content btw I think it’s incredible as always. Just sharing my opinion. Felt the need to explain myself because just being in UA-cam comments feels aggressive and like there’s a fight happening lol.

    instead of b75 on the turn in the xx line, is 2e ever an option? whether its 3x pot or 2.5x whatever, feels like 2e could be decently useful - not quite sure how to appraoch this

      Absolutely it is from BB's point of view and it's covered extensively in episode 1 of Weapons of War. The reason I wouldn't look at facing it from BTN's point of view is that it's super rare to face in real life and so not fruitful to winrate to study until later on when you're playing vs people who do this more often.
