I think the biggest similarity between Mango and Daigo is that their gameplay shows that all you need to fundamentally do is beat the next thing your opponent is doing and ride the momentum. An option isn't bad if it's the one that works. Their highlights break the game down in a very concise "me doing X beats your Y" instead of "my character doing ABCDEFG beats your character's HIJKLMNOP". They are both experimenters and enjoy seeing what new things work. I think there are very stark differences too. Daigo is interested in pushing the game and Mango is interested in pushing his way. Daigo is a little more experimental with meta changes and Mango would rather figure out how to keep his style viable in the meta. Mango has a lot more ego in his approach which is polarizing to his expectations and mindset; he feels his own highs and lows. Daigo keeps some sort of inner curiosity about whatever happens in a match. They are both fan favorites because their highlights are game changing.
Idk. I mean I guess if you want to compare peaks sure you can, but imo Daigo is both a natural and the hardest worker in the FGC. Mango is just unbelievably naturally talented at the game, that he rode on that. I am not saying he didn't work hard, he clearly did, but he also just wanted to live life. He reminds me of ronaldinho or shaq. Extremely talented, when they wanted to they are the best on the planet. But they lack consistency. And so did Mango. Daigo, on the other hand, is straight up Messi. Day in and day out he is the very best, and he continued to do so.
Mango’s right there with him. Melee is insanely hard to play at a competitive level, let alone MANGO’S level for three separate decades. Youngest AND oldest to win a major. Mango is just as goated
This is a really short-sighted way to think. Yeah this guy is right tho, you know to start thinking about timing the first parry after the super flash. I think toph just misworded and meant it’s hard to do it on the spot.
I'm guessing this is a joke, because that's not what it means, but actually, his name is even more dope beacause it means 大吾 (big me). Pretty fucking dope name.
The difference is Daigo has played way more fighting games at extremely high levels rather than just a specific game over his career. But Mango is incredible even still.
“Diago played way more fighting games”. Bruh. He played a bunch of street fighter. Are we going to pretend that that’s something that’s completely different each game that they can be separated? He’s not going from street fighter and then placing top 8 in tekken. The dude played madden 01 madden 02 madden 03 there’s differences, but cmon it’s the same game overall.
@@limitedbom2206 do you play street fighter? By the sound of it, you dont. Try playing 3rd strike and then play 5. You will see how different they play.
@@ryllian1Again, i'm not saying they were the same game, they play different but to say he plays a lot of differnet games, that's implying hes playing stuff like street fighter, tekken, smash, whatever. He plays one franchise. Don't act like they are a universe apart.
Mango is not Daigo. Daigo has been a top tier Street Fighter player for 3 decades at this point across many different games. Dude is in EVO top 8 at 40 years old. Mango is great at Melee no doubt, but he is only great at Melee. Daigo is great at Super Turbo, Alpha 3, Third Strike, SF IV, and SF V. They are not the same.
I mean, I can't say I know much about Daigo but if he split his time seriously into that many games over his career he couldn't have become as skilled in any one of them as Mang0 is at melee. Nobody can see or play melee the way Mango can. He's a special player in his own right. If he played melee another 10 years I'd be surprised if he wasn't still winning majors at 40. There's really no way this comparison could be that bad, it wasn't even meant to be about their careers as a whole anyways.
does daigo faint cause of alcohol on his stream? does daigo disrespect his opponents? does daigo play hyperaggressive? dont push your melee narrative on such a respectful legendary player. toph never had a clue what hes talking about anyway. what a disrespect to the whole street fighter and fighting game community
Ok I get that you’re upset since I can kind of agree with you that he doesn’t really know what he’s talking about when it comes to Daigo, but at the end of the day it’s just a basic comparison of how mang0 is like Daigo in his eyes in the scope of melee with how he plays. It’s kind of obvious tho that you are like a surface level Daigo fan or have low level understanding of sf because he is hyper-aggressive, sometimes he is disrespectful, and we know now that drunk Daigo is best Daigo so can you really speak about disrespect for the guy? Not saying that he’s similar to mang at all but his stoic image has dissolved long ago
Very timely video with Daigo making top 8 winners side for SF at Evo yesterday. What an absolute legend, I hope he does well today.
How did he do?
@@clevelandsmashclub896 He wouldve done better but Idom plays Laura and robbed everyone in losers bracket.
Samox said on Twitter that he uploaded this Patreon extra because Daigo made Top 8 at EVO

i like the concept
Daigo is 41 and he just top 8 Evo. Mango is the youngest and oldest to win a major. Either you got it or you don't.
Awesome, very inspirational.
Daigo's consistency over decades is unmatched. As good as Mango is, Daigo is the mount Everest of competitive gaming.

You can't full parry Chun super on reaction? Bro, there's literally a screen freeze that tells you it's coming.

No you can’t do it on reaction
Try it in the actual game if you press forward after the flash the parry doesn’t work
I swear that’s just a false rumor, it’s just a really tight window depending on the spacing
what's the background song on this it's so gooood
Daigo is like mango and armada fused.

Is Metagame still in production or is it out already?
It’s already out
Metagame has been out for a WHILE my guy
Metagame is out, but it’s only on Vimeo for rental or purchase. If you’re into these documentaries it’s worth the money. Great watch honestly
great video. samox is very talented and toph is so real
Fun Fact: "Daigo" is actually Japanese for "Mango" :)
