I did the full vision online Inductive University perhaps 18 months ago. But never had the opportunity to apply it on the job. I have a hobby project wherein I used maker edition to create a simple font end to modbus server, so I had some experience with Ignition, but not a lot. Changed jobs, got a vision project assigned. I stumbled my way through the tasks at hand, and when recipes and database integration became the next task, I managed to get things done via transaction groups, but was stuck with deleting a record using transaction groups. so I asked ChatGPT, and what it suggested worked (I was not aware of the prepUpdate function and none of the videos I re-visited clued me in). That was impressive in the moment. Later, I found myself asking ChatGPT how to programmatically disable audit log entries on tag writes (to avoid spamming the audit log). In this instance, ChatGPT lied to me and gave me false hope, stating there was a function "system.util.disableAuditLog", which, according to Ignition 8.1 help does not exist. However, there is a community forum feature request for this. I would love to be proven wrong about "system.util.disableAuditLog".
I've been using ChatGPT to help with scripting in ignition and it has been quite the help when i get stuck and cannot find the resources online pertaining to what I'm trying to accomplish. I also "tinker" at home with micro controller based projects and home automation. It's ability to help with almost any programming language / platform has had a massive impact on the rate at which i am able to go from idea to working prototype.
