So sorry this happened to you - it’s f*cking disgusting. Whatever you do please don’t beat yourself up.. You’re doing good here by informing others of these scams and the increasingly more ‘sophisticated’ (ugh) methods they’re now using. If anything, you should feel proud of yourself for speaking out. Don’t forget that there are reputable companies that DO use Whats App.. I personally communicate with several this way. I’ve known teams regularly trained on this (and even the trainers themselves) give out very sensitive info including large institutions banking info. It can and certainly does happen too often and to anyone. Thank you for sharing and I really hope there aren’t long term negative impacts of the unscrupulous actions of these fraudsters.
Even as a former police officer I’ve fallen for scams and done silly things. When I was younger I had my card PIN number written down in my wallet. Obviously I got pick pocketed.
Woahhhhh James!!! Sorry to hear! I had it a few years back where they had been skimming my bank account with phone top ups….. I didn’t notice for weeks! 🙈🙈🙈
Immediate thought when you started this video, Vinted pro. Feels to me like there’s a bigger scandal here, publishing NI numbers is a huge data breach, can’t believe we’ve not seen any news on this.
Chin up fella, a lot of us have been there so I know the feeling of the shame and stupidity once you realise. Had a few odd Facebook messages which screamed scam this week, so I just blocked them and always getting emails. Trouble is it doesn't matter how vigilant you are the scammers are always two steps ahead and are already working out their next scam whilst still running the old ones. And when the scams don't generate enough cash they then sell how to do the scam on the dark web as well as peoples details.
James I had a real issue with Tide. Similar story in terms of deception they ended up taking 100k from 3 different banks . I managed to get it back after going to ombudsman and it took 8 months. Don’t beat yourself up though mate I did and felt the same as you , take care
Sorry to hear about this. We have had this happen twice to us and it’s awful. Don’t be embarrassed be bloody proud of yourself for stopping them getting any further. We did find out that both times they got our details from Amazon! I even got to message one of the scammers on fb! I asked him why he did it and he answered that I wouldn’t lose any money as long as I reported it to my bank! Unbelievable really. It does take a while to sort out and you learn a lot along the way. Well done you for stopping it before it starts. 🌻🌻
Don't forget to report it to the police, it's online fraud, they still need to have a record of the report in case they do manage to open the account. My other half almost fell for it a few years ago but she gave them the wrong card number and they called back for the correct one while I was in. I twigged straight away that something wasn't right and told them to f off. Then went down to her bank and got them to change the account details.
omg and the person laughing at you on whats app gees. my daughter has starling account im sure she had to prove id with a video . my lloyds account has a thing you can check your credit account included . makes you query and go crazy trying to figure where the get all the info

With Starling, they usually ask for ID plus a live selfie verification using AI to open an account
