  • An in-depth look at the Lander IV GMT from Farer.
The curious amongst you might have wondered what Farer’s best-selling watch is. Well, it’s this - the Lander GMT. The Lander has been a staple of our range for a while now, and it’s currently on its fourth generation. Like all our watches, it blends eye-catching colours with classic design elements to produce a watch that’s both beautiful and quirky. However, that doesn’t mean that this watch is gimmicky in any way, and we’ve taken great care to make sure that it’s also a very practical and highly legible watch too.
You can read more about the Lander IV GMT on the Farer website here: bit.ly/3SyX3Gz
Launched in 2015, Farer is an independent British watch company driven by a horological passion for detail, design, and most importantly, difference. We are extremely proud to be part of a new generation of watchmakers playing a (small) part in defining the future of an industry with such a legacy.

New owner of a Farer Lander 4 here. It's my first non-quartz and the first watch I paid more than a few hundred dollars for. It's a beauty! It's a retirement gift for myself, my goal being to travel a lot over the next few years.
My only regret is choosing the default tan strap. I think it makes the watch look a little cartoonish. I replaced it with a black leather strap. The watch is bright and colourful enough, a dark strap is the way to go IMO.
It's not a big watch at all and fits well on my 6.75 inch wrist. Unless you have really small wrists, I would suggest this model over the 36mm.

Just bought a FL4 w/ pink dial. First Farer and day 2 of ownership, pretty chuffed. They delivered on time, and I feel good about the value of the watch vs. cost.

I feel like a 36mm three hands watch inspired by the Lander would be a nice addition to your latest collection!

I love this watch - it’s beautiful. I also love Farer’s take on colour. I just want to be a “bit” more boring (without being a black bay owner). I would love this exact watch but with the orange hand changed for white since orange and red is just too cool for me

love the size. It's good to see a vintage size (36) gmt. would love to see a 36mm diver or chrono.

Lovely watch, just wish the numbers were smaller and that it had less of a dome

Wanted one, out of stock on their website. I am not gonna wait… seriously Farer, Underdog etc all think it’s cool to say sold out. CW is getting better.

Both sizes of the Lander are currently in stock and available to buy, so we're not sure what you're talking about.

If you want to be seen like a serius company just keep some stock for god sake. Whats wrong with Microbrands, you all guys just think is cool to say “no stock” for models that you started selling few months ago. No that does not make you look like you have high demand. Makes you look like you have zero production capacity and zero budget to store. With so many micro brands on the market, I personally decided to never be on a waiting list. You don’t have stock, I will buy your equally unknown competitor who is doing an effort to keep some stock on hand.

The Lander will be back in stock next week. We've increased the annual number of units we're manufacturing of the model by 100%, but demand is so high that the model continues to sell out with each run. Similarly we're always increasing the initial production numbers of new releases, and it's something we're always reviewing in an effort to try and satisfy the high demand.
We've always been wary of opening models for pre-order for the reasons you mentioned. However , demand and customer enquiries for certain models are so high that we felt it was the right thing to do in order to satisfy those customers keen to ensure they get the watch they want.
We thank you for your understanding.

@@FarerUniversal but you (and I refer to several microbrands not just at Farer) always talk of demand in a very generic misleading way. “Very High” is the common definition.
What does “very high” means? This is so relative. Rolex has very high demand. Patek has very high demand. Even with their prohibitive prices. Microbrands have demand, yes, but also a lack of production capacity. I always feel like you push marketing too far that you can then not keep it up with production and this is my main point.
Customer X has never heard of, for instance, Farer. Then he sees a video on youtube for first time and after seeing that the watch looks good and prices is relatively affordable decided to give it a try. But there is no stock. Decides to go for a similar model, and also there is no stock. And this happens all the time to the point that Microbrands think this is normal.
In my case, it makes me dislike the brand in the same way I got tired of Rolex. The difference is, I still would wait for a GMT Master because it could be an investment. But most of microbrands are just nice complements to wear, and I don’t see the point of having to wait months for you to consolidate capital to start production.
Again, I think this situation goes againsts you guys and the client perception.
If I can buy an Omega seamaster anytime anywhere in the world, I should be able to buy a Lander online quite often, and not find half of your portfolio sold out

    • @Chris-de2qc
      @Chris-de2qc Рік тому +4

Economies of scale... A smaller brand can't produce thousands of watches and just hope they sell... omega is established and can have more in stock. Rolex is just fake supply and demand. If you don't want to be on a mailing list and just cry about it, then please just stick with the big brands.

    • @edgarsanuybarahona7656

@@Chris-de2qc fake supply and demand is precisely what micro brands are doing. I’m not crying about it I’m pointing it out as feedback from their potential clients. By saying “we have high demand” and not pointing that maybe they have only produced 150 watches to keep the hype up they are creating this impression in the market. I saw recently a comment on a Hodinkee post saying the definition of a Micro Brand is “a brand who never has stock”. This is the market feeling at this moment and worth it to share with the brands

@@edgarsanuybarahona7656 We completely agree with you. We'd much rather all our products were available. However, as Chris has kindly pointed out, it's very hard to know what sort of scale to produce.
It's most certainly not a question of capital for us, it's simply a case of it being very difficult to judge total demand. For example if we launch a model with 500 units, and they sell out in a month, then we might put another 1,000 into production straight away. But they'll obviously take time until they're available.
Like I said, we agree with your sentiment, but unfortunately it takes time for us to catch up to the demand and accurately predict it going forward.
