Terry and Bobby Labonte are in the HOF but few remember we have three Labontes who won in NASCAR. What happened to Justin Labonte?

fun fact: in 2004, Justin ran 17 races and finished 35th in points. in 2005, he ran all 35 races and finished 17th in points
Complete switch
Consistent number though
Too bad he didn't try running only one race in '06. Would have been a lock for the championship in '07
“You don’t have to look it up, because we did.” - Bill Weber, probably
@@travisknoll the countdown is at zero. The green flag is next
Justin is part owner of Longhorn Chassis along with Terry and Bobby. Very successful company building mainly dirt late models.
Dang really? I didn’t know they had anything to do with longhorn chassis
What surprises me is that a lot of the wrecks shown in this video don't seem to be Justins fault, a lot of getting caught in other peoples messes. Dude had some terrible luck. Although I guess part of being a good driver is not putting yourself in situations where that can happen to begin with.
Lots of these "busts" videos are engine failures or wrecks they didn't cause. They just had shit luck.
Justin Labonte may have been a bust but that one Labonte with the first name Ryan is an interesting one…
Ryan Labonte? How come?
Who's ryan labonte
carnation
Justin Labonte, Steve Wallace, Jason Jarrett, Glenn Jarrett, Kerry Earnhardt, Larry Pearson, Clifford Allison, Casey Elliott, David Bonnett, Richie Panch, Adam Petty, Maurice Petty, Ritchie Petty, Mark Petty. All relatives of well known Cup drivers who had careers of their own but never had success in the Cup Series for one reason or another. Some just couldn’t cut it, others made their careers elsewhere both in and outside racing, and a handful had their careers cut tragically short.
Larry Pearson was an interesting case since he was great in the now Ixfinity series with Two consecutive championships.
It seems like being the son of a great NASCAR Cup Series driver makes it harder to be a great driver yourself, due to the pressure to follow in their footsteps. While he still wasn’t nearly as good as his dad, Dale Jr was probably the closest modern-day example of a driver’s son that was successful in Cup.
Also Matt Martin, son of Mark Martin
Matt's career remodeled (In my opinion)
Busch Series: 2006-2008
Ginn Racing (2006)
JR Motorsports (2007-2008
Cup: 2009 onwards
I don't know what team he would have joined, maybe Stewart-Haas Racing
Jarrett & Labonte Stock Car Racing was my childhood favorite game. Miss that game
If Terry is The Iceman of the Labonte family lineage, Justin melted the icecaps. Or at least he would’ve if he hadn’t wrecked into the icecaps and caused a 24 polar bear pileup.
Morgan and Morgan should sponsor your car when you do a virtual race
I met Terry here in my hometown of DeLand Florida 20 mins west of Daytona international speedway back in 1995 when I was 7 years old a couple days before the Pepsi 400 drivers were signing autographs at our local grocery store and have been a huge fan of him ever since. He's by far one of the nicest drivers I've eber met
If Mike Wallace didn't run out of gas at Chicagoland, Justin probably wouldn't have won that less or had lesser odds
Interesting to me how so many legacy drivers either ended up being garbage or only had brief careers. Lots of promise and hope for nothing to come out of it. I was hoping Justin would be a big part of the next generation with Ross Kenseth, Matt Martin, Steve Wallace and Jason Jarrett, but it wasn't to be.
Matt Martin? I think he didn't went racing at all I believe.
Justin Labonte may be a NASCAR Bust, but at least he can call himself a NASCAR winner. What a bummer to see his entire career rubbish tho
yep, that is more than a lot of Nascar busts have, most don't get even 1 win in any of the top 3 series
It's a shame that Justin Labonte wasn't that great, but I remember the upset win at Chicagoland in the what was then the Busch Series in 2004, but too bad he didn't had any Cup Series starts. Sadly, he wasn't gonna be good like his father Terry was back then.
My grandpa got to go behind the pits in his Michigan race, met terry and got to help move tires, thought that was cool
The only notable thing from him is that Codemasters picked his name and Jason Jarrett's name to market a game that feature no stock car racing (it's a touring car game).
What's even funnier is that Ned Jarrett is apart of that game.
What’s wild as hell is in the win he won Mike Wallace was a race away from winning back to back
Always hade hopes for him. That Coast Guard Dodge was 🔥
Honestly no one considered Justin LaBonte a prospect of any sort. Yeah he's Terry's son, but it wasn't really acknowledged a lot.
He was just there & managed to get a miracle win that a few actually wanted him to get.
Thanks for sharing! I remember watching Justin win at Chicagoland in 2004 for his only then-Busch Series victory. It was my first season as a NASCAR fan and I still consider it one of my favorite upset wins in NASCAR history (and one of the greatest upsets all-time, for sure).
Thanks for attending my request Darian
Upset career for Justin although the team wasn't top tier... He was like a Steve Wallace with a lucky win
Nascar Busts: Danny O'Quinn Jr. and Cody Coughlin
Tbh Cody running trucks never made sense to me. He's a pretty solid super and crate late model racer, and his family practically owns the CRA. why go higher when your serviceable at best anywhere else but the CRA?
@@kevincorbat7084 all respect for you opinion man... Tell Cody as a bust 'cause he always had a top tier ride (KBM, ThorSport, GMS...) and never had won a single race or made a playoffs a single time
@@iagofreitas910 exactly. Used to crew on the CRA tours and left around the same time he went trucking. Everyone scratched their heads at that one in the pit but wasn't no one gunna say anything in fear of losing sponsorships from jegs lmao
I have a hard time calling Justin a Busch series bust, because who else won their only Busch series race at Chicagoland? Jimmie Johnson
The Coast Guard had an amazing paint scheme
One thing I’ve always loved and respected about your channel is how much you dig into these older races to find wrecks or different moments of each and every driver you talk about. I’ve been a long time viewer of your channel and every video feels like a new adventure in the past. Keep it up brother!
Do a video about Dario Franchitti's brief run in NASCAR.
In the spirit of legacy drivers, NASCAR Busts Jason Jarrett
He's also the co-star driver in the US release of TOCA WTC, after all...
It seemed like Justin was just always in the wrong place at the wrong time
Literally look at the stands for the lower series races back then. T
Still that Coast Guard paint scheme is 🔥
with Hulk coming back to F1, how about F1 Busts: Mick Schumacher?
Too soon to call him a bust. I have a feeling he will land another ride in 2024
After only two seasons with a team that almost everyone considers a non-podium threat?
Another case of Mick haters: musyarofah1
I think Mick could get that Mercedes reserve role
Don't trash the guy he's almost as cool as Terry
He seemed to be a victim of wrong place wrong time a lot
He and jason jarretts video game was badass tho, even if it had nothing to do with nascar lol. The og of the toca race car driver series. Was way ahead of its time with damage, lots of real tracks, and decent physics for the time
Morgan & Morgan Ambulance chasing is what we do!!!
His only NASCAR win was my 1st ever Xfinity Series race and 2nd overall NASCAR race I've been to.
NASCAR Busts: Coleman Pressley, Cole Whitt, AJ Foyt IV, Jon Wood.....
Justin Labonte' career remodeled
Legends summer shootout series
USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series (1998-2001)
Late Model stock series (2002-2003)
ARCA Series (2004-2005)
Trucks Series (2006-2007)
Nationwide Series (2008-2010)
Cup Series (2011 onwards)
Still have that game, it was really good for it's time.
Nascar busts: Cale Gale
Man! He definitely tore it up like his own dad but for all the wrong reasons!
Love the Gran Turismo background music
Missing rings Noah Gragson 2022
Good Seasons Terry Labonte 1988
It should be pointed out that when it comes to the Jarrett-Labonte Stock Car Racing video game, there are no ovals or stock cars in it at all. The only reason why it was called that was because Codemasters wanted to generate higher sales in the US and figured using the last names of two legendary NASCAR drivers would do the trick.
I had a few people playing at my golf course a few years back with the last name, LaBonte, and I asked him off the top of my head if they were any relation to Bobby and they said they were I don’t remember how, but it was pretty cool lol
Love the Gran Turismo 4 menu music
So iconic
If someone makes a TCRF page on TOCA WTC I'll make sure to mention about "a game endorsed by a pair of NASCAR busts".
Still has 1 more nascar win than most people
Hahaha Jason Jarrett is another bust video you could do researching it lol
He’s not a bust.
He never got a competitive ride and was overhyped because of his dad
In 2005 he was basically driving Hendrick equipment. I heard he struggled with the loose setting last of the cars
I kid you not I first heard his name through a TOP 10 LIST OF NASCAR UPSETS ON UA-cam.
DUDE! I actually have the car that's in thumbnail! My grandmother's new husband gave me the car in 1/24th scale also with a US army one and a 1/64th scale Joey logano AAA car!
One another banger from BFM.
Dear Darian, can you make a video about what makes a "Legacy Driver"?
I recognize that Gran Turismo menu music in the background lol
He has his own video game
Nice PFP. Love the Caddy DPi!
Another case of a son with a famous last name who tried to make it into racing but failed. He has one of the most random wins in NASCAR History with his win at Chicagoland in Busch in 2004.
I love the Gran Turismo music in the background.
It’s more often than not that son and father or brothers dont succeed and compete at the same level as their family members. Kyle Petty, Harrison Burton is having the same problem. Dale Jr didn’t even come close to what his dad accomplished. The Wallace brothers had the same thing.
Not often you get a family duo like terry and Bobby Labonte, Lee petty and Richard patty, booby and Davey Allison and bill Elliot and chase Elliott .
Atless he can say he Still did about the Same as Cole Custer and Daniel Suárez
In a Gene Haas car
Custer has a lucky win, if Suarez can get consistency he could go for Cup championships
If I see Ty Dillon on this series soon I’m going to cry. Please Darian
Have you done a Jason Jarrett video? He was also a HUGE bust..
1:04 dont forget to call saul
Sometimes its very hard get out of th shadow of your dad or grandpa. Just because your their son or grandson doesn't mean you have the same talent also.
Just goes to show that not all sons of champions in motorsport are able to live up to their famous names. Steven Wallace is another example
Ryan Preece is secretly Justin Labonte
Next NASCAR bust needs to be Jon Wood.
Just another case where someone who has a name and is a son of a famous NASCAR driver where they can't perform well
Hi Steve Wallace lmao
Jeffery Earnhardt
@@Ob1tuber but Jeffery has never had top equipment outside of a few races.
Jason Jarrett
Kerry Earnhardt
Even Kyle Petty wasn't this much of an embarrassment on his family name
Kyle at least won some races.
Man, nobody remembers when Kyle was a legitimate championship threat in '92.
@@crystaljon I remember, loved that mellow yellow 42 car. if i remember right he finished 4th or 5th in the points.
Kyle wasnt awful, but, after 93, his career fizzled, and it fizzled quickly. He really should have hung it up before 08.
I think he would have sooner if Adam would have had a cup career.
i went on your channel cuz i felt like it and saw this uploaded less than a minute ago lol
I suggest you do a video on Kevin LePage I would definitely call him a NASCAR bust. Just the Talladega blend line wreck constitutes that.
I was there for his win. Still dont believe it happened to this day lol
I honestly do not remember him racing.
I was at the 2004 Chicagoland race as a kid, so that was my only memory of him, now I know why..
Another one as far as family of legacy is Matt Martin but he stepped away on his own terms
Do Regan Smith next :)
BFM,do one on Jason Jarrett.
Hey he has more wins then me so
You know it’s possible to make a video without putting people down, right?
Snap into a slim Jim as a Texan about the same age now 42 I was disappointed followed Adam Perry then Dale Jr from 1998 till he retired
Not a bust just not very good!!
I think he just had really bad luck
But he started or help start longhorn chassis they build dirt late model very successful
What track was that at 4:30?
DO NOT SHOW TO KAMIKAZEGAMES
It takes dedication,, Justin just didn't have it... that's from Bobby's own mouth
Can you do champion season: Michael Cosey Jr 2007
Bro did you know that some rando named Racing Rush Copied Your video
I think another bust is Ty dillon he may still be racing and have time to turn it around but unlike Austin he is just not meant to be a racer
Marty Robbins
Who you know will get you there but it won’t keep you there, not in these days with the money involved with a few exceptions like paul menard where dad basically paid
For the car and funded a hobby for his kid as a tax write off but that had an expiration date also
1 Xfinity win but the rest didn't show any good results the rest of the time.
I wish I could race and wreck cars like this guy.
biggest bust bubba wallace
Sure snapped into that there Slim Jim, didn't he? More than once.
Kid had zero good luck. If someone was going to wreck, they were going to collect Justin.
Someone tag KamakazeGames
Never even heard of this dude
Bust with a good looking car
Justin Labonte: Hall Of Shame in NASCAR except for one career Busch Series win in the Tropicana Twister 300 in Joliet, Illinois.
I wouldn’t say he was busy.If Darrian could make a new series.I would put him into the unknown and wasted talent series
