    The first position has such a different and great sound. I’ve always done this in 2nd. I’ll go try first.

    Delightful playing sir. I've seen all your videos at this point so I subbed for good measure!
    Odd quick-question: Have you ever met or considered meeting Gunthrie Govan? I'm an American from Columbus Ohio (Similar in weather to parts of Ireland, for reference) but I understand you both are Brits. I learned Harmonica from you & Hakan Ehn & basic Acoustic Guitar from him. I'm better at the A, G & C harps then the ax though, thanks in large part to you!

    Will can you tell us what exact brand and model of harmonica are you using for the D harmonica ? and do you think a chromatic hohner is also reccomended for blues ?

    • @willharmonicawilde
      @willharmonicawilde  5 років тому

      It's a Seydel 1847 Silver. As far as the chromatic is concerned, it all depends on what you want to play!

    Thanks. These are exactly the sorta riff tutorials for which I've been searching. Can you recommend any other standard blues riffs to use as "home?" Also, I'd greatly appreciate some funk/soul riff tutorials please.

    Hey Will, I'd love some pointers on the main riff from 'A Ton of Money' by Rick Estrin. I've got the main gist but I'd love you to break it down.

    So if a song is in key of C then if you play harp on first possition then you need C harp?

    Nice one
    It's really worth noting what you say about James Cotton and his lack of effects
    He's got the best aperture (is that the right spelling? I unno) of any harp I've ever heard.
    No fx, just hard and heavy playing on a seydel - no bullet mics and sounds the best
    But, the sure 585 he used a lot does break up a bit - more than a 58; and the amps he used, when he did - were bloody great big fender twins. I think he got his sound from just being loud as hell with a little break up and overdrive, but not much.
    .... I think about this stuff too much.

    I know this is 6 years old , but why not teach the whole song ? I love Muddy Waters and James Cotton and have both of those on cassette tape . My favorite version is Eric Clapton's " Blues from the Cradle " . Might have been Jerry Portnoy on the harp . . . I would like someone to teach the whole song . Anyhow I have enjoyed your other vids that I have seen . Thanks

    I’m not saying you’re wrong, but how is the Hoochie Coochie Man riff in first position? Aren’t you just going up the blues scale?

    • @willharmonicawilde
      @willharmonicawilde  4 роки тому +1

      You can play a blues scale in any position. He played in first on this song meaning he used blow 4 as the root note. A on an A harp.

    • @winstonchurchill624
      @winstonchurchill624 4 роки тому

      Will Wilde Oh thanks for clearing that up. So you can play a blues scale in any position, but the roots will be different?

    • @willharmonicawilde
      @willharmonicawilde  4 роки тому +3

      @@winstonchurchill624 Yes, the formula for the blues scale is just Root, flat 3rd, 4, flat 5, 5, flat 7, octave. With the use of overblows and bends you can do that in all twelve keys on any harp: certain positions will be much more difficult/awkward than others though depending on how the notes are laid out and how many overblows/bends are required.
