As a hockey fan, this is very worrying because Bettman just signed a 10-year deal with Fanatics as the NHL's new jersey supplier next season. Yes, 10 years. Out of the available options like Under Armour, Nike, Reebok, or CCM, he chose Fanatics. Certified Gary Bettman moment.
NHL didn’t have a choice. Fanatics were the only company to even place a bid on the contract. If the NHL wanted to change they would have to beg another company to take the contract well below what Fanatics offered and that isn’t happening.
Yep like the other comment said no one else placed the bid. It’s too pricey for them to make authentics even though these other company’s make a crap ton of money.
Good discussion on this topic. Nike doesn't care enough about MLB or have the in-house production capability to produce at this scale so they outsourced to Fanatics. This is a problem because Nike is a world renowned brand that seemingly didn't care about their image this time around. You made a great point; one company needs to take ownership of licensing and manufacturing. I gave Nike a pass since they got the contract because they grabbed it when Under Armour couldn't afford it anymore. They weren't prepared. Now, they have no excuse.

NHL authentics (the on ice) are actually hard to get your hands on lol Adidas is actually under the process of being sued for marketing their "authentics" as such when they are really just high quality replicas lol
What about the effect on sales? Wouldnt this motivate both fanatics and the owners to produce a product fans want to buy? I was planning on buying a new Phillies jersey this year, but i won’t be buying one of these.
I understand the decision to change the cut and material (even though it seems too thin to me), but I don't understand why they also chose to change the names, numbers and the position of the MLB logo, not to mention no longer using embossed logos. It's inexplicable.
This is cost cutting masquerading as "progress". If they only changed the material, maybe I'd buy the evolution excuse. They didn't though, they made fit and finish cheaper. They forced all the teams to follow the same template changing small details about their uniforms in the process. They moved the logo, they made the logos look worse. These new uniforms are trash and people aren't snobs for trying to enforce basic standards.
In Canada, authentic game issue jerseys are $450+ CAD. That's unacceptable. Especially when you can probably get a better quality product from a Chinese bootlegger.
Brodie, you nailed it, man. The changing of fabric is one thing. If they want to make on-field jerseys a different material for performance purposes, that’s fine. But what does that have to do with the size of the name and number? What does it have to do with the placing of the MLB logo? Nothing. This all screams “oversight.” There’s no way any of these execs look at these uniforms and think “these look good.” However, they do look at it and say “yes, this is acceptable because we save tons of money.” Then you add on the pants being see-through and not tailored…This is a disgrace to professional athletes and it is completely unacceptable. And as far as fans go, they didn’t have us in mind at all. I hope we all send a message to the buffoons by not buying any of these jerseys.
I feel that this fiasco isn’t going to help ease those worries from people who are concerned about Fanatics taking over from Adidas in the NHL next year
I dont know much about how jerseys are supposed to look but even I could look at those jerseys there at the end and tell that it wasnt right. The names are too small, theyre too close together. It just makes it that much harder to read from far away
Yep never thought I miss Bud. How about ManFRAUD putting advertisements on jerseys? Something Bud Selig was always against. IMO that already bastardized the jerseys now this is icing on top.
I understand the change for the players. I'm not a player I'm just a fan sitting in the stalls drinking a beer. I want to look good, feel good rooting for my team.
My guess what will happen is the players will get a new jersey they want and that version wont be sold to the fans similarly to the on field NewEra hats. The players in the MLB get NewEra caps that are still made in Buffalo while the fans get the Chinese mass produced crap. I have a Yankees hat that was probably from around the time when they switched from wool ones made in the US to being 100% polyester and made in China. I have gotten hats since the change and it is vast. I have a NewEra wool Brooklyn Dodgers hat that is made in China and it leaves divots in my forehead because it is was assembled so poorly.
This is just like that episode of Seinfeld where George makes the Yankees switch over to cotton uniforms because "they breathe," and then they immediately shrink when they wear them on the field 🤣
So the old template that was used from 2020 to 2023 was the Majestic Athletic Flex Base designed that was rolled out in 2016. I think they should have stuck with that template but like you said make small tweaks to it each year. Starting with the new number design. But that is my thought, let me know what you think
I feel like you're right. I have a game used 2019 Twins jersey and I was comparing that jersey to a 2022 jersey that someone owned from a video that Brodie made a few days ago. In my opinion, the jerseys look similar. I do agree that they should have made small tweaks each year. My question is though if the players wore these similar uniforms for the all star game in Seattle, what's the issue now???
Hey Manfred! Al-Star Game Player feedback has ZERO bearing on the fact that A’s and Dodger Wedding Gown White are now the same garbage off-white identical to every other team. These colours are as much a part of those two teams kits as the Dodger Blue or the A’s Green & Gold. What a cheapskate move.
The NBA tried to switch to those tight shirt-like jerseys a few years ago but the players complained and we never saw them again. Hopefully MLB will listen, but I have a feeling they won't.
I have a knockoff Pat Burrell jersey I bought for maybe $30. The name and number on the back are the wrong font but it still looks better than these new things.
Dry-Fit crap. I bet damn near 100% of players wear a t-shirt under the jersey so what does it matter. $355 for a blank Rangers jersey is freakin ridiculous. Fanatics is shit. Cheap cheap cheap.
Professional is the old flannel jerseys. A’s last year was 1971. The Fort Knox Gold tops and pants were amazing. The road jersey was mint green not gray. And home was Wedding Gown white!. I have a decent collection of Kansas City and Oakland A’s flannel jerseys (from 1963-1971) and some early 70’s. First year gold jersey was made of Durene like football and hockey jerseys of the day. Really hot for KC in the summer. Switched back to flannel in 1964. The A’s played their last game in the alternate Golds against the Orioles in the 1971 playoff game 3 loss at home. They wore those at one of my first A’s games (doubleheader)on opening day 1971. Like a distant dream now😢😢😢
Why isn't Nike specifically making the authentic jerseys?? I could understand having Fanatics making the lower tier options but this doesn't make sense to me. Especially with how big Nike is in the world!!
A few years ago I went to a sketchy website and bought a suspiciously cheap “authentic” jersey that shipped from China that is better quality than these.
Get rd of that God damned Nike swoosh. It completely ruined the jerseys. When I but jerseys, I find a Majestic. Just yet another reason Manfred needs to be voted out.
The best way to express our opinion is the simpliest -- DON'T BUY THIS CRAP!!! Odds are you'll be able to get a better knock-off jersey 3 blocks from most any MLB stadium this year
but nike already had a new modern uniform template that looks and functions much better than this new mlb uniform colleges have had some nike vapormax somethin template that is fully customizable look at any nike baseball college and youll see a much nicer an higher quality uniform than whats in the mlb look at vanderbilt all unis have sewn in logos and have tailored pants the template looks different but that because its actually modernized in a way that is functional but does have a nice form to it it has completely covored buttons but none of that weird lip at the necknor sleves the mlb should just use that
Again, my UK eyes this is perplexing to me. Here our football teams jealousy protect their tops each and every year. We have two tiers a Pro tier at £120-£150 a shirt and a more value Stadium (or other brand name) level at £55-70. With offerings coming direct from the Suppliers. I see a way around this, a Pro level manufactured from Nike by Nike. A mid level with Nike blanks and fabrics, manufactured from Fanatics and a lower level that’s completely Fanatics. It may just need an element more of nuance in it. The thing I find it hard to get my UK/EU brain around is how all teams in the leagues of MLB/NFL/NBA all have the the same brand. Here an Adidas contract at Man United is for talking sakes £120m a year and Liverpool with Nike is £100m theoretically. Why have teams sacrificed a financial advantage over their opponents? Why can’t teams have their own distinct manufacturer for their own deal? I thought the USA was all about money, or is it a way to prevent competition? My UK mind is wondering about that.
If I am buying a jersey I will spend the extra money to get the authentic one. NHL and Adidas did a great job with jerseys last few years, by changing to fanatics I am not sure if Ill buy one unless they are of same quality which i fear they wont be, shame
Bootlegs are looking way better, with better materials, embroidery & stitch work. The low tier Nike jersey is still double the cost of a bootleg on eBay & the Nike low tier is made with cheaper material. Not a single stitch or embroidered emblem on the cheapest Nike jersey, nothing but heat pressed, make that make sense.
Something will only change if players speak up and the union gets involved. MLB doesn’t care what fans think as long as they’re making enough money. Manfred is such a disgusting hack, him telling us to wait and see is an old tactic that eventually ends with people accepting things the way they are even though they suck. People said the same things about ads on uniforms too: “oh it’s a small change bro stop being upset you’ll get used to it” nah it still sucks and opening that Pandora’s box leads to stuff like this.
I'd say when everyone is gone home for the day at the fanatics jersey factory, let Chris Sale have the keys, he'll tear the stock of jerseys apart and the jersey's won't see another game! LOL!
Makes me worried for the NHL once Fanatics has full control. If this is how they handle a Nike product, imagine how they'll handle it when it's 100% their own
Hey Brodie is this another of Manfred's bright ideas! He's one of the worse commissioners ever in baseball! Oh he's retiring in 2029 I wish he was leaving now and put a real baseball man in there. What he's doing to Oakland and the fans is a abomination! Him and Fisher should take a hike! Take care!
It's literally going to work it's self out. Fans will not purchase jerseys this year. Big corps only act when it hits their wallets and boy sales will be way down this year.
MLB doesnt care about the fans and MLB believes that they can abuse the fans as much as they want and they wont leave. And I fully expect that fans will continue to take the abuse from MLB and in the end MLB will still sell a ton of the poorer quality more expensive jerseys.
Fanatics is just a straight up crappy company. They rip the consumer off by overcharging the customer with outrageous shipping costs and dealer handling. The NFL and MLB need to put a stop to this crap.
My 2021 replica is more AUTHENTIC than the new authentic. My 2013 replica is better than ALL Nike jerseys. Put the MLB logo back, make team logo's patches, and keep the old numbers/names set up. Majestic FTW.
Regardless of teirs in jerseys, the jersey are all overpriced. Now they used the price and made it worse. But to American fans out there, I don't know how much an Authentic costs in the USA, but in Canada the price of some Authentics is $450. That is absolutely unjustifiable.
I put eyes and hands on these the other day in the New Era store at Citizens Bank Park. The authentic jersey is actually of less quality than my replica jerseys from last year. Absolute garbage. And they are selling them for MORE MONEY. Consumer products aside, the on-field jersey should adhere to a strict level of quality.
I guess they will change the jersey again. NBA only let the new Nike last a a few seasons before they revamped the jersey that’s why they don’t rip as easy anymore.
either they reduce prices on jerseys or if they charging premium for a" good "quality one at least it has to be 100% stitched. never been a big fan of heat pressed b. s. and the overpriced amount for it
So from what I understand, Fanatics will still be using Adidas templates until 2026 when they come out with something of their own. I'm definitely concerned.
The only thing that might change for this year is the pants so they're not see through anymore. Everything else is exactly as they designed and I'm sure they were expecting backlash. The only hope is that no one buys this sh** and we get a fix for next year.
I ordered a Seattle Mariners hat from fanatics they suck. Had to reorder it after 11days we'll see if it gets here by Tuesday. They suck. I'm going back to MLB shop
Wait... "They're designed to be performance wear, as opposed to what has traditionally been worn." (@ 6:55) So, what they've been wearing this whole time was not performance wear? What the hell were they wearing, then? Pajamas?
@@brodiebrazil I think the real reason is the simplest: they're cutting costs and raking in more cash. It's absolutely crazy to think they would do so at the expense of the players' comfort. I am not surprised they are cheaping out on the fan jerseys, but to do the players dirty like that as well? Wild! "Research and development" my ass, they're cutting costs to make their pockets fatter.

I dont know much about how jerseys are supposed to look but even I could look at those jerseys there at the end and tell that it wasnt right. The names are too small, theyre too close together. It just makes it that much harder to read from far away
Rob Manfred is the worst baseball commissioner ever, even eclipsing Bud Selig.
He’s by far the worst commissioner in the history of sports, not just MLB
ur such a delusional sheep
He never has a clue yes by far the worst
Yep never thought I miss Bud. How about ManFRAUD putting advertisements on jerseys? Something Bud Selig was always against. IMO that already bastardized the jerseys now this is icing on top.
Weird how he is very aware of his unpopularity but it doesn’t phase him much.
Great coverage! Just subscribed.
Thank you for being real Brodie🙌🏼
Stay on it Brodie. Thanks for all your hard work!
This is just like that episode of Seinfeld where George makes the Yankees switch over to cotton uniforms because "they breathe," and then they immediately shrink when they wear them on the field 🤣
Thank god I just have a jersey with my last name and number so I don’t ever have to buy another jersey again 🙌. I knew this day would come
So the old template that was used from 2020 to 2023 was the Majestic Athletic Flex Base designed that was rolled out in 2016. I think they should have stuck with that template but like you said make small tweaks to it each year. Starting with the new number design. But that is my thought, let me know what you think
I miss majestic
I get the point you’re trying to make comparing it but are the jerseys really the tools? I see that more so the Gloves and bats
The best way to express our opinion is the simpliest -- DON'T BUY THIS CRAP!!!
Odds are you'll be able to get a better knock-off jersey 3 blocks from most any MLB stadium this year
This is what happens when a business goes after a cash grab but made the mistake on being cheap with the players too.
George Costanza working for MLB now?
Fanatics is the Franklin of apparel
but nike already had a new modern uniform template that looks and functions much better than this new mlb uniform
colleges have had some nike vapormax somethin template that is fully customizable
look at any nike baseball college and youll see a much nicer an higher quality uniform than whats in the mlb
look at vanderbilt all unis have sewn in logos and have tailored pants
the template looks different but that because its actually modernized in a way that is functional but does have a nice form to it
it has completely covored buttons but none of that weird lip at the necknor sleves the mlb should just use that
I was talking with this guy George and he thinks MLB should go with cotton. It breathes and is softer.
Why did you go out of your way to specify the fact that you were talking to a guy at all, much less what his name is? Nobody here cares.
haha I came here to say the same thing
@@BDizDaBestI take it you're not a Seinfeld fan.
@BDizDaBest it's a Seinfeld episode
Time to go back to Rawlings or majestic they were better quality anyway
Russell were the best mine still look almost new other than some loose strings. But I have no fading and the logos still look fresh
LOL!
Nike doesn’t need to make the jerseys. It’s clear MLB produced quality jerseys throughout their history until recently.
I miss majestic
Makes me worried for the NHL once Fanatics has full control. If this is how they handle a Nike product, imagine how they'll handle it when it's 100% their own
Hey Brodie is this another of Manfred's bright ideas! He's one of the worse commissioners ever in baseball! Oh he's retiring in 2029 I wish he was leaving now and put a real baseball man in there. What he's doing to Oakland and the fans is a abomination! Him and Fisher should take a hike! Take care!
Making the uniforms better (lighter and breathable) for the players isn't a great idea ?
Its funny that everyone is blaming Manfred. He works for the owners! Blame the owners!
Sustainability lowest priority, comfort and wearability top priority.
I used to only get a few washes on every 60 dollar jersey in the 90s
I mean, look at one of the first few pictures and the sleeves on Ottavino’s jersey. They should not ripple and curl over like that!!
This is like your club switching from peter millar polos to cutter and buck
Nice A's jersseys Brody. By chance does your number choice have a connection to the great Captain Sal Bando?
Bob Melvin is number 6 because Sal Bando was his favorite player! My favorite too!
either they reduce prices on jerseys or if they charging premium for a" good "quality one at least it has to be 100% stitched. never been a big fan of heat pressed b. s. and the overpriced amount for it
will this be the same for NHL jerseys next year as well?
I think fanatic’s already making the nhl ones but adidas pay fanatics like Nike is doing
So from what I understand, Fanatics will still be using Adidas templates until 2026 when they come out with something of their own. I'm definitely concerned.
Wait till next year when fanatics is taking over hockey jerseys. It’s going to be the same thing that’s happening to mlb.
Yeah in this case the feedback is going to be low sales #'s. I predict another change coming soon 😂
The only thing that might change for this year is the pants so they're not see through anymore. Everything else is exactly as they designed and I'm sure they were expecting backlash.
The only hope is that no one buys this sh** and we get a fix for next year.
They screwed up NBA jerseys too. I remember LeBron James’ jersey completely ripping during a game once.
Maybe they’ll bring back the 1970’s pull-over jerseys
The first 4 season of this marriage were just Nike branded Majestic cool base jerseys
8:00 lol clever Brodie
the players wont get what they want actually. maybe some changes to the pants but they will have to suck it up with the new jersey
Doesn't Nike still make the nba and nfl jerseys without outsourcing them? find this as such a slap in the face to mlb
Has anyone asked Robbie Ray's Pants about whether they fit right? We should be consulting the expert pair of pants on this topic.
Did the players “unanimously” approved this change? Manfred lied again same as the idea of A’s relocation was unanimously approved by the owners.
I love Nike in general but their baseball jerseys are not as good as the Majestic ones and the nba jerseys are pretty horrible since they took over.
I ordered a Seattle Mariners hat from fanatics they suck. Had to reorder it after 11days we'll see if it gets here by Tuesday. They suck. I'm going back to MLB shop
mlb shop is ran by fanatics… fanatics controls 100% of every sports apparel sale anywhere its fanatics
Wait... "They're designed to be performance wear, as opposed to what has traditionally been worn." (@ 6:55) So, what they've been wearing this whole time was not performance wear? What the hell were they wearing, then? Pajamas?
good point. i dont think anybody was complaining about them before.
Fanatics (Nike) has a new vendor in China who offered them the lowest price. Follow the money.
Its true, these look like a cheap ebay knock off. If this is the new thing, Ive bought my last mlb player jersey!
I like your content 👍
