    Even with all the new fancy retro baseball parks now in existence, they all can't and don't really capture the charm and neighborhood character that parks of the past had such as Cincinnati's Crosley Field, Pittsburgh's Forbes Field, Brooklyn's Ebbets Field, New York's Polo Grounds & (old) Yankee Stadium, Washington's Griffith Stadium, Philadelphia's Shibe Park, Baltimore's Metropolitan Stadium, Milwaukee's County Stadium, St Louis's Sportsman Park, and Detroit's Briggs/Tiger Stadium, and the two existing parks left from that era being Chicago's Wrigley Field, Boston's Fenway Park. One of the ironies of these old ballparks versus the state of the art ones is how the fans dressed to attend the games. In the bygone eras, men wore suits with their button-down shirts and ties with fedoras, and the women wore dresses and high heels. Now, it's anything goes with dressing down to attend games in the new cathedral type parks.

    Very interesting conversation. Love MLB Cathredrals! I have been to a dozen MLB ball parks... Fenway and Comerica the most often. Comerica is my favorite because it is an amazing "price hack" to get a standing room ticket and stand IN FRONT OF wooden movable seats/tables (which are amazing and very close to the action). The aisles are comfortable to stand the whole game and have a great view. I did it for a World Series game (for only $85!).
    The negative of that park is the far away upper deck (in sections where there are suites). However, there is an easy solution to that problem: Do NOT get upper deck seats in those sections. Also, the Tigers statues, carousel and the city view are very undervalued by "stadium raters". It may be the best MLB park to bring kids.
    Comerica also was a key puzzle piece in revitalizing Detroit, particularly the Downtown with the Cass Corridor (midtown). It literally changed the trajectory of growth in the city (v. rebuilding Tiger Stadium), because it was walking distance to downtown, particularly Campus Martius (where the Compuware building was built 24 years ago, then dozens of other projects followed). The atmosphere around the stadium (with Ford Field, LIttle Caesar's Arena, the Fox Theater all right there) is unmatched anywhere in the US. It is actually like Real Madrid's stadium in Spain in terms of a comparable "surrounding atmosphere".

    "I could almost see them building a ballpark that would look just like a lounge." That fits perfectly because the A's would be a horrible "lounge act". Good luck Las Vegas, this is going to be a disaster. Maybe the A's could use the Giants' A-Level "Excite Ballpark" in San Jose. Capacity is 4,200 so no seats would need to be added and the A's Owner could continue to field a crap team, it would be a perfect match!

    I made an admittedly snarky comment earlier about Baseball using Fisher and the A's as a test pigeon for what I would call Plantation Baseball, where the self-anointed elites sipped champagne and ate caviar in luxury boxes almost at field level, dominating the space at the ballpark, with regular seating available in limited quantity and in less optimal vantage points to the sycophantic bourgeoisie at very high prices. Upon further review, much to my horror, I am thinking this might actually be happening for real. Why on Earth would the whole of Baseball risk its reputation and financial security on a promising, yet unproven market like Las Vegas? Why would they keep even basic renderings under lock and key - other than the fact Fisher can't afford to build anything? Why are they so confident that they can fit a baseball diamond, plus seating, onto a 9 acre site that is folded into a megaresort? Why do these billiobums insist on cramming this ballpark into a backlot a three minute drive from the charter terminals at McCarran? (About the only place in town that you can get to the Warehouse quickly from.) Might these clowns not be planning to recreate the Colosseum, with its immum and summum levels, stratified by class? Emperors, vestal virgins, senators in boxes on the bottom, wealthy citizens above them. But unlike the Colosseum, they just throw the lower classes out - patricians and plebians properly separated? Who knows? During the offseason maybe they can book gladiators... 😒...You can dismiss my assertions here as wild, hysterical hyperbole, but do so at your peril. If you pencil all these numbers out, this is the only way that this Jiffy Pop project COULD work - but won't. Building a special team for the high-roller class, fed by NetJets and private G5s, inverting modern stadium levels to put the people "in their proper place" and serving up opulence with state funding. 75 luxury boxes at $10k a night, plus 5k seats at $150 a pop? Yeah, it could work. If you sold it out. Except for one thing...These are the John Fisher A's. They suck. And Baseball is sucking more and more with each passing day. Price gouging, bad marketing, bad umpiring, bad baseballs, bad food, bad clothing, and just plain mean people in charge of it. Personally I can't wait to see the new "renderings" and see how much of this BS actually transpires...And on a lighter note... 😃...Although not a resort per se, the Skydome has hotel rooms attached to it, the activities of which are often much more entertaining than the games themselves. Where else can you see porn on a Jumbotron?...I haven't been into the Atlanta Battery, but I've been by it a half dozen times. Let's be clear. The Battery is NOT a locational improvement over Turner or any other previous venue in the ATL. It is plunked down into the second worst traffic chokepoint in town (I-75 at the Perimeter), but unlike the worst (I-85 at the Perimeter) there is no mass transit option. The nearest MARTA rail station is probably Dunwoody, at least 6 miles away. If you enjoy arriving in the 5th inning (fashionably late) it's great. The area is nice, but the access is horrible except for the wealthy 'burbs in Cobb...

      Sacramento could work but they'd have to build a retractable roofed stadium. Jon Fisher stated that "they could just add a another tier of seats to Sutter-Health Park". Then, he could continue to field his AAA level team and line his pockets with MLB TV money. Cheapskate.

    • @ivandragomiloff2356
      @ivandragomiloff2356 8 місяців тому +1

      @@justkeepingitreal2024 No they won’t have to build a retractable roof, it’s not that hot lol. Kansas City, St. Louis, and Denver have similar weather in the summer. Warm, balmy nights are perfect for baseball in the open air.
      They can build a stadium in the Railyards adjacent to downtown, that is stadium approved and ready. It has the infrastructure both roads, parking, and trains in place. The Railyards is the largest infill project available in the USA, with a functioning downtown adjacent. It would be 5 blocks away from the Golden1 Center.

      To me, the original problem with the Coliseum was designing the football field to cut across the infield. This means you had to design a wider grandstand than most other stadiums of the era, which leads to upper deck seats being petty far back from the action.

    Brodie you do this thing that I’ve observed in many videos where you try to get viewers to agree or reason with you for why Vegas isn’t a good sports town/why Vegas shouldn’t get the A’s…..at the end of the day, yeah Vegas’ fanbase is a good amount of tourist. Sure, maybe the locals won’t attach to the A’s if they aren’t winning. But then again, isn’t that MOST sports cities?? If the A’s are winning and are deep in the playoffs every year that ball park will be filled to the top whether it’s 8 acres or 20, whether you like it or not. If the VGK are downright horrible, you won’t see sellouts at TMobile every season or every game, same with the incoming NBA team and incoming Athletics. You’ll see fans here in Vegas walk around with Vegas A’s hats jerseys, and license plates the same as they do with VGK, Raiders and LV Aces, they’ll be just fine here….I understand content purposes and I understand you being hurt that they’re leaving, it is what it is. But stop trying this narrative that it can’t or won’t work or even that they’re better off in Oakland…Even before all of this started, I counted the last I believe…12-13 years where Oakland was damn near in the bottom 5/10 in attendance almost every year, bud. Even WHILE being competitive and making the playoffs…you guys didn’t even support your own team when it mattered most. They’re better off business wise and team wise being in the Las Vegas Valley.

    • @hornetfan10
      @hornetfan10 8 місяців тому +3

      Not sure Brodie has ever said there are not good sports fans in Vegas. Think its been more the context that Augero and Hill spewed about saying it would be reliant on tourists. Its more the ballpark is going in a crummy location and how the move is being handled by KavFish and Augero, Hill and Mick Akers.
      Frankly, they are better off in Oakland with a new park. The median income in Oakland (just Oakland) is 20k more than Vegas. The media market attracts a 70m a year TV deal. In a new ballpark adverstiers will want to have sponsoship dollars with the A's. Las Vegas has done amazing with VGK, and the Aces. The local support is really good (interesting thing to note is they have season tickets to see for next year per Alan's blog), but how many baseball games are these people going to get too?
      The other thing defending Vegas, how excited can you really get in 2024 for this team coming in maybe 2028? It is like annoucning you are engaged, but the weddings in four years. Who is really excited for the couple until the wedding? Vegas is great for sports, there is no other city to handle big events, but every market has a saturation point for sports. Will be in 3 teams will be it be four teams, will it be six teams. We will find out!! good luck vegas and oakland! #sell

      Every year you try to learn the new players and you get to know the new team and watching them start to win and start getting excited about the team. You might even think about buying a player jersey and going to more games and you see more people in the stands and maybe the team gets to the first round of the playoffs. You’re sad they’re out but you’re hoping they build and get better next year. Then the players you just started to love get traded and you’re pissed off and say never again. Then you start listening to spring training games and paying attention and getting to know the new team. You get my point. You have to build a team to keep fans. It takes time and this has been happening for decades. Don’t blame A’s fans.
