Took my 2004 class A off the road and now it's been on a seasonal site for the past 3 years. This is soooo much easier than trying to get a propane truck to fill the tank!! I can run off a 20lb all season long and just get it filled at the local gas station.
Happy New Year 19 below zero fahrenheit here in southern Vermont hope you're staying warm 👍👍👍☕☕
Many thanks for doing this. I am now off to fit mine with confidence.
Great video, I've been looking for a how to and this is it. it's good to know it's an easy job, to think I was gong to pay someone to do this but they wouldn't work on an RV, I thought(for some reason) that the gas line would have to be cut. Glad I looked a little further.
Hi John Great Video thank you man Happy New year
Velcro straps work wonders when storing hoses
Thanks John , Great how to video . Have a great year .....j
John's Day Digest Hey John thanks. You been a bit quiet these days???
That is a awesome product. Easy to install and very useful.
LetsRV Yes very easy. So far it works great.
I just ordered my kit. Thx for the video
Works great you will not be sorry.
Nice 'how to' video. Happy New Year!
Lost On Land Again That's Lost safe travels my friend and Happy New Year.
Thanks for the in video enjoyed it gave me a lot of confidence my only concern is that you left the rubber auxiliary hose connected to the high side of the gas pressure and it does not appear that go through a regulator I would recommend a quick connect or taking it off and cap in it I don't feel comfortable with rubber hosing on the high side of the pressure if something goes wrong what's a rubber like a squirrel chewing it then you got a high pressure leak. Just a thought
Yea I see your point. I could remove the hose and just use the brass plug.
Thanks so much! Great job!
question- the t goes before the regulator, so any applience like a grill that hooks up to this t needs a regulator. thus why not t (not the featured t) after the existing regulator? doing this keeps the existing regulator within the guard shield below it.
If you already have a propane quick connect that came from the factory, could you use a cylinder with a regulator on it and connect to the coach that way? I guess you would need a regulator on the tank because it it would be after the coach’s regulator.
excelent video. I had it already installed and needed to understand it as someome had jerry rigged it to work another way...lol
Clamp a short 1x4x6" board to the metal tank protector and it will protect the regulator.
Looks so easy but I have a box on the right side of the regulator’s. What is that for. Looks like an electrical goodie.
I recently had to deal with this item. What I found is that the check valve in the hose may not have a positive seal which means at low back pressure, propane can leak out the disconnected external tank hose.
When I wash the rig I have a habit of soaping down the propane connections No leaks yet but I will keep a close eye on it. Thank you very much for the heads up.
Good Video going to hook up a blackstone direct to rv tank. If hooking t and hose before regulator what regulates the pressure? Thanks for the help.
The black stone should have a regulator. If not it needs one.
Remember the POL fitting has left hand threads.
Thanks for the video man! I installed mine just like you did but for some reason when I turn on the valve from the portable tank I’m not getting any gas going into my rig (tried turning on the stove, fridge even as a last resort the furnace!) and suggestions on what I should check? The tank is heavy so it seems there’s gas in it. What should I do? Many thanks!
You need to turn OFF the rig's propane valve. The pressure from it being on prevents the smaller external tank from entering the system.
y
great video but what kit did you use
Is the camco brand the preferred item to use
Wow seems like an awesome option. Easier taking the tank for refills rather driving the whole rig. Question, are these legal are they common and does installing it void any of the RV warranties? sorry for so many questions. never seen this before.
Perfectly legal and very common. Most RV dealerships will even do the install if you want to pay them. We love having the option.
When you actually hook the external tank do you still leave the big tank open
Hello! Wonderful vid. I noticed you stated not to use any kind of teflon tape at the fitting. Why is that? A friend of mine hooked up an Extend-a-Stay hose yesterday and then, mistakenly, added pipe dope. The question is; what do I do now? Can I remove the teflon tape? Will I then be "good to go?" Thank you.
Teflon tape is for sealing the threads. Flare fitting seal on the flare angle surface and not the threads. Just leave the Teflon on it will not hurt anything.
Check for leaks regularly with soapy water regardless. I check mine about twice a season at a min. Hope that helps :) safe travels~ John
Thanks so much for your prompt reply! I'll leave the (white, not yellow, as I discovered) pipe dope in place, and check it occasionally for leaks. Since the hose is partially underneath the Class A, it makes it a little tougher to get under there. (I'll be sure to purchase a handheld detector to make checking a bit easier.) Thanks again!
Hello! I just connected mine today using your video, thanks! Just wondering however, do you need to keep the main tank open? Or do we close it and keep the 20 lb tank open only. Thanks again!
Close the main tank and open the small remote tank.
BlackTop Boondocker thanks for the reply to the post. Keeping the main/mounted LP tank closed (bypassed).
Also wanted to ask: The RVs LP tank regulator is the only regulator needed? Meaning - I don’t need to put a regulator on the external tank?
Thanks in advance for your input!

Thanks for your video. I’m guessing you have a motor home. Where do you keep your external propane tank when you are driving. I have a class c with a propane tank like yours. I would love to install an extend a stay but I have no place to store a 20 lb external tank..
If you are not towing an auto use a cargo carrier and strap it in.
I toss mine right in a compartment.
Unfortunately there's a lot of negative reviews on the Amazon for this unit saying it's leaking, of etc
Great video! How big is the tank on your RV?
I believe its a 32gal tank but they only fill it to around 27gal. I also carry one 20lb BBQ tank as a back up or for winter use.
I just installed one on my coach, my question is, on the new line hanging there while hooked up how does it not leak when main tank is turned on?
Has a valve so no leaks. I still put on the cap.
Thanks
I just did this to mine but the BBQ connection doesn't work for me
When I turn on the gas it comes out the end of my new hose what is up with that?
Question is should the new connection be put after the regulator ?
No You need the extended stay connection on the high pressure side. This allows you to run directly to remote tanks. If you put this after the regulator it would send high pressure to the rig and that would be bad.
Hi hopefully you read this but would you happen to know why my out tank didn't work I connect everything as you show but ones I turned on my 20 pound tank it didn't work plz help
He did not mention that you should turn OFF the rig's gas supply as it will prevent your smaller tank's gas from entering the motorhome.
Doesn't make sense to put soapy water on the hose end opening. The point of the test is to verify External leaks that can cause a safety issue. If your shutoff valve was leaking, the gas would simply flow through the regulator and remain in the lines.
Instead of buying a fitting and hose, why wouldn’t you just hook the camper hose with regulator to the cylinder directly?
This is a 3 way hook up all high pressure. The camper itself need the regulated pressure but not the devices that use small tanks.
a velcro strap would be better for the extra hose.
Great Idea Thanks.
What is the biggest tank size you can use with it?
I refill my frame mounted tank from my 400 gallon farm tank with this tee.
Don’t Magilla the gorilla the fittings. Thanks for posting the helpful video
Is that a National ? We had a National with a huge tank and our new Winnebago only has 18
2000 Holiday Rambler Vacationer.
Does anyone know the length of this adapter after it's installed? I don't have a ton of room in there and need to know before I buy.
its been a some time but I will measure for my update video.
@@BlackTopBoondocker I already got it installed, but thank you
I have a 100lbs tank, will this setup work with it?
Yes. Pounds is just capacity not pressure.
My propane tee leaks propane right before middle section ........ help
Not sure why the tee would leak. I would remove it and check the threads. Contact camco they might send you a replacement. I still use this every year and never had a problem. Without seeing it sorry I can't be more help.
never show'd the regulator side installation, most impt.
Can’t see b/c arms are in the way.
My oven works again ❤ 🍗
Are you sure your not quoting pound to gallons. That would make your tank like dr who’s call box
Nope the tank is 32.9 gallons and it gets filled to about 80%. The place I get filled Tractor Supply puts in about 26-27 gallons. That's almost 6 20lb bbq tanks.
@@BlackTopBoondocker wow that’s nuts. Thanks for the clarification
Definitely use like 10 zip ties to keep that hose off the hiway. Duct tape, bailing wire, electrical tape, bubble gum anything but to .10 zip ties. Dont trust that.
lol
Too dark often within area we should be able to see...
I think you have gallons and lbs mixed up. A 30 lb tank is 7 gallons. 4.2 lbs per gallon.
Tank is 32 gallons. When I get it filled they charge buy the gallon and regularly put in 26-27 gallons.
You never showed it working!!!!
Thanks for the video! we are installing into our rig. we have subscribed - please take a look at our channel when you have time.
I will check it out
@@BlackTopBoondocker Thank You!
here because my valve is painted stuck
