I don't want anyone to lose sleep over this, so I'll clarify here. Candy (sweets) are also handed out in Britain in addition to coins. My favo(u)rite was always the mini Twirl. Goodnight.
Booooooooo.........................!
When I was of trick-or-treat age, we would get candy, sure. But we may get pennies or nickels or even a homemade treat. Some families would make (request) you some inside and perform your “trick”. It could’ve been a joke or a song etc.
Some parents would have little bonfires with hot dogs, hot chocolate, warm cider etc for the parents to congregate while the kids ran around to the neighboring houses. Then the entire pack would move on to the next grouping of homes.
On the topic of DST, I live in Arizona and am thrilled not to change times. The only difficulty is that calculating time zones then changes for us. So say, right now, because we didn’t ‘spring forward” we are three hours time difference from the East Coast. Next week, even though we technically won’t “fall back”when most of the rest of the country changes times, we will only be two hours time difference from the East Coast.
So everything is a little off, National tv programs that you are used to seeing at 6pm are now at 5pm. Thinking you can call that NYC business at 6am, when you’re up for coffee and normally call, means you need to wait another hour until they’re open….just a random example, but you get the point.
Happy Halloween 🎃
@@lynngordon5901 but if all states got rid of daylight savings time it wouldn’t really be an issue
Yes I’m sick to death of daylight savings time. I would rather have a little more daylight during the Winter months so I can get more done after work, and not come home in the dark.

"Basically what I'm saying is, I think Arizona's got it right." As someone who's lived in Az the majority of their life, this may be the only time I've heard this sentiment unironically.
Arizona got it right, and I've never lived there.
I would love it if the time didn't change. It's so dreary and depressing.
As a fellow Arizonan, I agree xD
Hawaii, also. 🌺
The problem with the way Arizona does it is that it's not all of AZ. Some reservation lands do change.
Knew something who was in AZ for a show and didn't realize that the show was in one town that did NOT change, but the hotel in the next town over was in an area that DOES change. On Sunday, they were told they needed to check out now, not an hour from now, due to the time difference.
At least in HI, it's the whole state.
Bonfires are a thing in the US, in fact even in Illinois. Outside of Chicago in the rural parts (past the suburbs and toward the corn that is in all directions) bonfires are a regular activity people do just to get together for no particular reason.
Yeah I wanted to point this out too. In IL and MO I've been to a ton of bonfires. They're common in the rural areas, just not in major cities.
@@kaldo_kaldo Yes, and people like to have them on the beach sometimes.
Out in rural Michigan, there’s a bonfire almost every day. People just hang out by the fire. It’s weirdly therapeutic.

I see no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.
i remember what we had a bonfire for, it was just to get rid of leaves. This is in unincorporated Winnebago County, IL.
As an Arizonan, never having to change your clock is wonderful. Everyone else is crazy for making things so confusing.
When I was a child, and go door to door we would always say , “Trick or treat! Smell my feet! Give me something good to eat!”

We lived in Hawaii for 4 years as a part of my service in the US Navy. I loved the fact that they didn't participate in changing clocks at any time during the year. I wish we would do the same throughout the US. I've mentioned it to my state legislators, but they don't seem to think its important enough to pursue.
"Americans like pageantry." The British seem to save it for serious things, but I'd say boy-howdy, they LOVE their pageantry! 🇬🇧😋🇬🇧

I agree with you about daylight saving time. Let's get rid of the time changes. I really don't care which time we choose, but let's pick one and keep it year round.
if only we could like, split the difference. move a half hour in one direction or the other and stay there.
But that would probably cause more promblems

Without DST, it will be dark an hour early during SUMMER!
@@Og-Judy AND light at something stupid like 4am...
Happy Halloween! The bonfires are probably not done until you get out into the more rural areas, but we do those, as well as hayrides. There are also haunted houses that get put on, even haunted farms & forrests. Those can be quite fun and sometimes big, elaborate productions.
We have bonfires all the time in the suburbs. You just have to have a burning permit issued by the fire department, and you have to keep it within a regulation fire pit.
I miss bonfires. I had a very small bonfire in my backyard and a neighbor called the police. It was a couple years ago. Now I am stuck with with a pile of branches (I throw any branches fallen from my trees in one spot). Neighbors used to have bonfires in the past, so I don't know why a small one was a problem.
@@maidenminnesota1 The burn permit really depends on where you live, as in my part of S. Carolina there is not one needed, but within town limits it's best to have a burn barrel, fire pit, fire ring, etc... so does not get out of hand.
Come down to rural southern Illinois we still have bonfires and hayrides.
@@briankirchhoefer I'm not that into hayrides. On one I got a piece of straw in my eye, thought I removed it, then it popped up in my eye a week later. It was nasty looking. Just thinking about hayrides makes me want to protect my eyes. There is a certain feeling of horror in the pit of your heart when something strange pops up from behind your eyelid. Then slips back into hiding as you watch it in the mirror.
Bonfires are lovely! I think I've solved my local problem. A fire pit. And I could ride a hayride if I had protective eyewear. But hay or straw still give me a sense of discomfort.
I REALLY like the walking and talking! Beautiful scenery! I loved this episode!
I would like to stop changing the clocks, BUT I’d want to remain permanently on daylight saving time when we stopped. I’d rather we had that extra hour of darkness in the morning in the winter than lose an hour of daylight in the summer evenings.
In 2018 the Florida state legislature passed a law for Florida to permanently remain on daylight saving time and it was signed by the governor. But, it can’t take effect without Congressional approval.
FYI it’s actually called “daylight saving time” not “daylight savings time”.
California passed a similar law by popular vote in 2019. But alas, it will literally take an act of Congress to change the DLS law in Cali.
South Carolina passed the same law last year, but waiting on Congress.🤔
I guess you would be surprised to know we had more pageantry in the 70s when it was safe to create a haunted house in your home. There were friendly competitions to scare us the most. There were also sneaky pranks played on naughty children. My favourite was the lady who gave candied apples to nice children and candied onions to the naughty ones.
That would get her trash cans thrown on the roof!
@@samiam619 Eggs and toilet paper all over the outside of that house
Not that I was a naughty child (frankly, I was the type that didn't say boo to a goose), but candied onions wouldn't hold any fears for me - I love onions!
Experienced a lil of that in the early 80s, streets would be filled with large groups of kids going house to house like in ET, and it was safe to go in a stranger's haunted house or cardboard box maze without worries.
My neighbors have haunted garages still but our city is one of the safer places to live.
Halloween has changed a lot in the US since the 80s. It was mostly monsters back then but you started seeing the kids cartoon characters a lot more, and now it's pretty much any kind of costume, which I think is great! Happy Halloween, Lawrence!
I 1/2 way agree, as I've seen some costumes on kids that not even adults should be wearing out in public, and should get the parents arrested, for example last year I saw a preteen boy about 10 or 11 dressed as a leather clad gimp on a leash being walked around by his mother who was wearing a devil costume showing just a bit too much.
It has changed a lot since the 60's. My brother and I and friends ( all in elementary school) would go trick-o-treating without parents. Think the " It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown." That was our Halloween. Loved it.
One year back in the 1960s, I went as the Jolly Green Giant. This was a commercially-made costume with a mask, but I don't remember where we got it from. We may still have part of that costume in storage.
In St. Louis, there is a charming custom, quickly fading, of the trick or treaters telling a corny joke to “earn” the candy. To keep the tradition alive, I pay double to any kid with a joke.
What I love about this is seeing my city while you walk. I had to move out of Chicago, but it is always home to me. I especially liked the Cubbie "W" flag!
As a Arizonian I can say I don't understand the obsession with daylight savings in this modern era.
Long daylight summer evenings. Try one!
It’s because it makes our lives miserable - fully dark before 5pm in the winter. Then we go until 10 in the summer.
AZ is generally just lighter than the rest of the cloudy US. When I was a kid, the sun was always up early in the morning and twilight seemed to last forever. I’m in Ohio now, and the day was done at 6pm today. Sure, you can keep up the party with lights, but it just doesn’t have the energy.
Ya, I grew up in the Northern half of AZ, and in the summer time we had plenty of light well into the evening. If people really want more light in their day they can wake themselves up an hour earlier imo.
AZ is cheating because it’s already light later in the summer than more northern states.
@@b.w.9244 The evenings are longer in the summer even without DST.
As Expats living in Brussels, Belgium several years ago.... my kids loved Halloween there. Not only were the costumes interesting (Jack the Ripper, bloody WWII soldiers, Grim Reaper, etc) but in addition to store candy they got homemade candies, cookies.... and oddly enough "handfuls of Walnuts"! The walnuts really confused my kids. I just told them it was like Charlie Brown saying "HEY, I got a rock!" Lol
@Nicky L its Holloween! Its supposed to be tacky. The bloodier the better!

American here. What’s the difference between an Expat and an Immigrant? Didn’t you just immigrate to one country from another country? Thus being an Immigrant? Or does Expat mean something with like being in/working with the military or something but while living in another country? Genuinely curious!
@@loC2ol I am an American as well. Yes, we were considered Expats since my husbands job moved us overseas for a period of time. A work visa was required! (we did not immigrate) The word "expat" covers several situations.. so you can google for a full explanation of other reasons.

If you look into why Halloween was made to be like it is in the US you would understand. Before the 1930s or 40s it was devils night and people would burn down houses with people living in them, break windows, steal pet, etc.
That was my Halloween in usa
YES YES YES, do away with Daylight Saving Time! When we fall back next week, we should just stay there. There is no reason to make the change in the spring, and many reasons not to.
Love Halloween. My friends and sibs and I would go trick-or-treating when I was a kid, and now I love having the dressed-up kids coming to our house. My husband and I buy lots of good candy, and give it out by the handsful.

I LOVE DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME!!! We should keep it year round. We're in DST most of the year now, anyway.
Some 40 years ago as a boy one year I dressed as a bag of groceries for Halloween. One of the few costumes I still remember.
The closer you live to the equator, the less the daylight hours affect you. Winter can be really depressing for people who live up north. You wake up and it’s dark. You leave work and it’s dark. We’ll take any extra daylight we can get.
You do realize daylight savings doesn't give you any more daylight. If it's dark when you wake up and when you go home, your work shift officially exceeds the daylight and there's nowt you can do about it except change your work schedule if it bothers you. Or move south.
@@KairuHakubi Not in summer. Light when you wake up, and light at 9PM.
Kairu Hakubi Ummmm I’ve experienced it so I know what it’s like. It doesn’t give us extra daylight for the entire winter, but it helps extend the daylight in the morning for a while. Or there’s an obvious difference at the end of the day. In the dead of winter, it doesn’t do much. Yes, it obviously depends on the schedule.
@@b.w.9244 ... and?
Yeah, but we are about to lose the afternoon light, which is the more useful light to me.
When I was growing up in California, we would sometimes get money for Halloween and we always made sure to hit those homes every single year.
Make Daylight Saving Time Permanente!!!! This way we have more daylight in the evenings, and we don't have to come home from work in the dark. Imagine being able to come home in the on one of those rare warm winter days and having enough light outside to grill :P
We travel full time in our RV and ran across this type of situation.
"Arizona does not observe daylight-saving time. The Navajo Reservation in the northeast corner of the state does - but the Hopi Reservation, which is located inside the Navajo Reservation, doesn't. That means someone could go for a drive and both lose an hour and gain it back without leaving the state."
Love, love, love your channel by the way!
Love the costume! You look FABULOUS! Spot on!!
Bonfires are usually done in more rural areas!! We have a hayride, adult beverages (hot apple cider and rum) and sit around the bonfire eating s'mores!

Nobody likes daylight saving's time. I don't know why we still have to suffer with it.
They're "saving daylight" during the time of year when there's the most of it. Whoever thought that was a good idea...
It depends on your work schedule. I personally appreciate the longer evenings in summer, and the earlier light in winter. I also appreciate being on the western edge of my time zone.
And here am I wonder about what kind of clowns like dark evenings. I am entirely greatful for springing forward in late March. It's heaven. I can understand AZ and HI staying on standard time.
Speak for yourself. I love it and can't wait to set the clocks forward every spring.
I like daylight savings time here in France, it allows kids to go to school when it's already light out for a little while longer before we get to the inevitable point when it's night when they go to school and night when they get out. It's depressing 😩 it lasts two months but without daylight savings time it would be about 4 months of getting to school / work without sunlight.
Back in 1969-1971, the UK did an experiment with staying on BST and not changing the clocks. I remember it VERY well - because the sensation of flying over a car's headlights, while in the middle of a zebra crossing, in the dark, at 8.15 am, will do that to you.
Back in those days, there was no such thing as 'hi-vis' for school children - just good old dark blue gabardine raincoats. But the UK is a lot further north than Illinois - which is a lot further north than Arizona. Distance from the equator makes the days even shorter. YMMV..
Growing up in Arizona I will say it really wasn't that big of a deal to go to school in the dark. We didn't have windows in the classrooms anyway, you'd never really notice except on the way there and that was either a bus or car ride. Then again the point that it is closer to the equator that probably affected my experience.
I get up at 04:30 am and drive to work in the dark and now because of turning the clocks back I get to drive home in the dark too.
@@purplehaze8471 Where do you live and what time do you come home? The further north you are, the shorter the daylight lasts anyway.

As an American kid, Halloween was a blast. Not just the candy, all the traditions at our house. Carving the pumpkin, baking the pumpkin seeds, decorating the house, the costume and then trick or treating with my cousins. As an adult, I like it even more--better costumes and lots of booze!
When I was 11 or 12 years old in the early 1970s, I went trick-or-treating with my friends on several streets near my house on Long Island, New York. We came to a house where a woman gave every child one piece of candy and one shiny penny. When it was my turn, she gave me the piece of candy and then gave me three pennies. I smiled and went to the next house thinking that I was two cents better than the other kids. You know, that woman sent some kid after me and made me give back the extra two cents. I am sure that there is a life lesson in there somewhere.
There was a house in my neighborhood in the 70s that always gave out rolls of pennies. Didn't strike me as odd back then as it does now in retrospect. That must have been expensive, there were a ton of kids. It was not a wealthy area, that's for sure.
Dang!!
When I was a child we would occasionally receive a coin, sometimes a piece of fruit instead of candy, but candy was generally more common. We should absolutely do away with daylight savings.
DST is awful. Standard time is better for our health.
Yes, get rid of Daylight Savings Time
They used to turn the clocks back to real time before Halloween... it was necessary because we weren't allowed to go trick-or-treating until after dark.
My favorite childhood Halloween memory is visiting one house on our street. The Schramicks (yes that's a name lol) were childless but made it a point every Halloween to invite us all in,have a fire in the fireplace, cider, cookies to eat there while we showed off our costumes and candy for later on. They were wonderful neighbors. We only have 3 kids on our street now, back then it was 9-12 kids, so I just make up a package for them. Candy, little toys or puzzle books.
Different cities have different codes on non-cooking fires. In my city people can have fires for other than cooking food so long as it’s contained. We definitely do fires around this time of year.
We had a bonfire last night at the Texas State Historic Site I work at, along with spooky stories based on local folklore

And speaking of people in the United States going all out for Halloween, one of my neighbors had an accident scene setup in their front yard which included decommissioned fire trucks and ambulances with their lights going and fog machines to make it seem like the car was on fire, they were all dressed up as paramedics firefighters or accident victims, it was freaking nuts.

Here in Arizona we dont have it

Agreed, plus there are some medical studies that have been done over the years that link daylight savings time to a great risk for various sleep related issues, more stress, along with greater risk of various heart problems like heart attacks, all because it screws with our natural body clocks, and one problem leads to the other.
We never had or heard of Halloween when I was a kid in London. We had the English holiday Guy Fawkes night, penny for the guy missus..
Agreed. Down with Daylight Saving Time. As an American, I can tell you when I was a kid, going as something scary was the norm. We heckled kids dressed as something nice.
I like it being daylight later. If we get rid of daylight savings then it'll get dark "earlier" in the summer. I like having that hour of daylight in the evenings. I despise winter, partly because it gets dark at 4pm. I say we just keep daylight savings all year long. (But I'm not a morning person, so there's that...)

Yes! I moved away from Indiana before Eastern Time was imposed on everyone year round and I remember feeling very regretful for you guys. I also had to figure out how to do documentation on time-shift nights (being a night shift nurse). I mean, something could happen on Spring Forward night at 1:59am, and the next entry would be something like 3:02am and it'd look like you were awful! (the simple addendum of Standard or Daylight time solved that, who'da thunk?). And yes, I feel like Daylight Savings has run its course and we ought to do away with it. Halloween is the chummiest night in our little town in Southeastern PA. There is usually a firepit going at least one house on every block. Children can get warm and parents can visit whilst exchanging candy and sometimes, adult beverages. Some people make their entire yards into interactive mazes or creepy scenes the trick or treaters must navigate to get their treat. And "Fort Knox" here is full-size candy bars.

Not so much pageantry or show, we call it spirit. 😊
While Halloween has a few aspects, the most important one is the end of harvest time. Relevant in places that have 4 seasons, and the coming of Winter is a big deal. Saw some awesome displays in eastern Pennsylvania. All handmade with no store bought glitz. That was in Mennonite country, so they may have not had a trick-or-treat tradition.
Growing up in my neighborhood, homes had two bowls, one with treats and one with coins. The treats were for the kids on the doorstep and the coins were deposited in the little orange "Trick or treat for UNICEF" donation box. That was back in the day.
Bonfires are definitely a thing here, but only in suburban and rural areas. Myself and my friends have them regularly in our backyards in suburbs of Detroit, albeit not giant bonfires, the pits are about 4-6 feet in diameter.
I love Daylight Savings Time! Well, at least the more daylight part! We’re in the eastern part of our time zone, so every bit more of it helps! Winter is dismal!
There's no additional daylight. It is an hour stolen from late afternoon and given to the morning.
@@diannt9583, We are going back into Standard time, the “savings” time starts in spring when we “steal” the morning light and enjoy it in the afternoon! 😉 We don’t need to turn on the lights as early at night and we are saving power then.
Also, some great memories from my younger days. Grew up in very rural Illinois, and one of the volunteer fire departments held "ghost rallies". So much fun! Everyone was in their cars, pay a small fee, (which helped the department buy equipment needed), each car would be given a sheet of paper with a story in rhyme /riddle format. We'd have to follow the clues to figure out where to go & leading to spooky areas out in the middle of nowhere. (there'd be people in costumes to chase and spook you) and gather objects until we hit all the stops and had all the clues and race back to the fire house to see who won.
Couldn't just follow the vehicle in front as some papers were completely backwards from another. Or mixed up somehow. Think they did 4 variations so all traffic wasn't going the same way and to make it a bit more challenging.
It really really was such a great time. And raised quite a bit of money for much needed equipment for the volunteer fire fighters.
That sounds awesome!

I grew up in St. Louis in the 60s and 70s. One thing that I have discovered is unique to the area is that we had to tell jokes, sing a song, or do a trick to get the treat. I moved away from the area as an adult and was the source of much frustration for kids when I asked for a joke from them.
When I went trick-or-treating as a child, my brothers and I had to give over our treat bags to my step-father, who picked out all the chocolates. Yes, we do like Halloween in this country. Some people say it is their favorite holiday.

I am.in my first year in a new house. Am at the back of the court, wasn't sure how many full size bars to buy. Bought 38 and what I thought was too much other candies....until two parents helped themselves to a bar after their small.kids took one! Probably stoners....so I ran out of full size bars for the kids...🤔
Haha! I really love watching this as I am in Southern California, it was 88 today and I am wearing shorts and sleeveless…..no where near a sweater, coat or parka like you! Thank you for entertaining all of us, happy Halloween 🎃
I'm in Southern California also. It only got to 69 degrees for me today.
Thank you for the reminder of the impending daylight savings time change...I had completely forgotten! (Time no longer exists in the world of COVID)
Candy corn's my favorite! Then the miniature Snickers bars & any other chocolate in a bag!!!☑️😁
The US doesn’t have a royal family to spend all their pageantry on, so they must find other venues.
I think we just like to celebrate. Any excuse to have a party.
😂
I think most Brits don’t really care about the royal family.
@Nicky L the president has an entourage for security purposes and because that’s how our government works. He’s not the single leader. He has advisors and a team under him all working together. This person is talking about the fussing you do culturally over celebrating the royal family. And hey, that’s your culture if you want to love and celebrate them, that’s fine. But we don’t really treat our presidents that way. We have rallies and things when they come to town but it’s not a huge cultural thing.
I would like to see daylight saving time all year long. So many more people are night people, so they can do things outdoors later.
I have never heard that 'Black is black green is green...' rhyme before or the giving of money instead of sweets. Although I do remember giving out 50p to a kid once as I'd ran out of sweets, but I didn't know it was a thing.
personally, I would love to get rid of daylight savings time
I must say you nailed your Halloween costume. I'd have never guessed you were UA-cam Sensation Laurence Brown!! Happy Halloween!!
We Trick-or-Treated for candy in costume every year growing up in Indy...teachers in school hated the day after.
Indiana didn't use to move our clocks or observe DST...wish we would return to that.
I like Halloween 🎃 it's nice to see more accessories in shops. It seems to be growing in the u.k. I saw on Curb they give candy. I love how Americans decorate outside their doors with pumpkins 🎃🍁
I’m with you Laurence, stop with turning the clocks
I live in Indiana and up until 15 years ago or so we never changed our clocks. It was an effing mess. Half the year we were on NY time and half on Chicago time. TV shows would all come on at different times including local shows because the schedules were driven by what ever time networks were operating under. Conference calls with offices in other states were always screwed up. I don't want to live through that mess ever again.
So am I. Unfortunately, the only option our government masters seem willing to consider is making Daylight Saving Time year-round. Why not just get rid of it?
With you on ending Daylight Staving Time. If we were able to quit lying about what the time is, we might be a small step closer to ending lies which have effects rather more pernicious.
I don't care which time gets picked. Let's just pick one and stick to it!
We do have bonfires here. You're just not in the right areas. Happy Holidays ☮❤
Football rallies
Nowadays so many kids get their costumes from big box stores like Walmart or Target. When I was a kid, we would come up with our own costumes that either we made or our moms made for us. I can remember being a ghost and wearing a sheet. Then one year, I was a Gypsy. Then one year my mom made me a Witchy Poo costume because I loved watching HR Puffenstuff.
Happy Halloween Lawrence, I don’t decorate for Halloween, hey I barely decorate for Christmas
I’m in Southeastern Michigan and a lot of us do bonfires and have drinks and hang out with our neighbors and just make it more lively and fun and memorable versus when we were kids. You seem a little down in this video. Cheer up!
Really? You celebrate Guy Fawkes Day in Michigan? I always thought it was a British thing.
@@jackmason5278 no we don’t celebrate that. It’s just Halloween. But generation x started making it fun for adults so some suburban neighborhoods will make it super festive. We have small metal bonfire pits you can buy and move around. We place them in the driveway to keep warm when passing out treats and socializing.
Bonfires are definitely a thing in America, Lawrence! They're definitely a summertime/early fall thing in the US. I grew up 2 hours directly west of Chicago and bonfires were like one of the only social events a small rural town has to offer. Were they not as popular in Indiana? They definitely don't happen much where in Denver, where I live now because of massive fire risk.
Yep! I grew up in the west suburbs of Chicago and we had bonfires as well. Here in Arizona it’s super dry, so we don’t do that here due to fire risk.
He was talking about celebrating Guy Fawkes night in particular on Nov. 5th. The UK celebrates with large bonfires.
I remember when they first started daylight savings time back in the '60s or early seventies. There was an outcry from farmers in West Texas saying that extra hours of sunlight would burn up the crops!
Benjamin Franklin proposed Daylight Savings Time as a joke. Time to get rid of it.
My birthday is Halloween, and the best one I ever had was spent in Scotland. And yes, we should do away with DST. I always felt that sunlight was overrated.
Happy Birthday 🍰
I live in arizona, which has no time changes.
👻 🏚 Happy Birthday
@@telecasterbear you are on Standard Time all the time. A state can choose to do that. However, if the state wanted to go on permanent DST, it would need permission to do so from the federal government. Very strange they can choose one and not the other.
Please tell us about your favorite Halloween in Scotland!
I personally love daylight savings. I have sleep disorders and it’s difficult for me to get started in the morning. The “fall back” allows me to reset my clock if you will to get me up earlier in a time we want to stay in bed. And then in the spring I prefer the extra light.
“Halloweening”
Never heard that before. Always called it trick or treat’ing
Lawrence rambling on whilst rambling around . Classic.
We'd always sing out: "Trick-or-Treat, smell my feet -- Give me something good to eat!"
I saw several Laurence Brown costumes this year, but yours is by far the best. Cheers!
Down with Daylight Saving Time. We live in a 24-hour economy now; there's no reason for it whatsoever.
We were in a 24 hour economy before stupidity set in.
I don't know about where you are but almost all the 24 hour stores have yet to restore 24 hour schedule. Because you know, it's safer in a pandemic to all crowd to the store during more limited hours instead of spreading the crowd over 24 hours.
Most people work days and most those people would like an extra hour of daylight after work.
I think any politician who wants to fiddle with our time system has to much time to waste.
We didn't start doing daylight savings for farmers or because we didn't have a 24 hour economy. We do it for the extra hour of recreation time.
@@ghz24 A friend's father would have coffee every morning with a bunch of farmers at the diner next to his business. They were complaining about how DST screwed up the milking of the cows. His response was to remove all of the clocks from the barns so the cows wouldn't know what time it was. The cows depend on sunrise and sunset for their clocks while the farmer uses a clock because lots of them are school bus drivers for extra cash.
@@bobthebikerny That was my first thought don't tell the cows and they wont know.
I thought it was optimal to milk every 12 hours anyway. We always tried to milk our goats at 6 and 6, weren't always successful but that was the goal.
Never noticed any problems with their adjustment to the time changes.
But I was a kid so...
I hear the farmers wanted it thing alot but they were against it at least at first.
Sleepy Hollow, IL in the far NW burbs does a huge bonfire every year around Halloween and the headless horseman rides through when it gets dark. It's a lot of fun!
“You get candy corn, you get tears”. I love the stuff, but I’m howling! Too funny!
I eagerly await Daylight Savings Time every year and mourn its loss every fall. It is so depressing at Latitude 49 (Seattle) when it gets dark so early on top of raining most days of the months that we’re on Standard time. I wish we stayed on DST all year. The long daylight in the summer is the highlight of my year!
Yes! I am in Portland. I think we should just stick with it all year long too.
The norther a person lives the more drastic the difference so someone living in Arizona has a much more balanced day/night cycle than someone who lives in Canada. To make my thoughts on the matter short, I say split the difference and quit messing around with the clock.
Daylight savings is such an odd practice and I already forgot what it was originally used for...
I grew up with Bonfires on Halloween along with dunking for apples in Chicago. We will have a Bonfire in our back yard at the end of the week, because we live in the sticks and can.
Totally thought you were going to end it by walking up to a house that went ALL OUT with Halloween decor.
