I am the coordinator of our local food pantry and this content is great! You did a wonderful job of breaking through the stigma people have with services like these. I think your "rant" was an honest way of approaching what can be a sensitive topic for some. You're taking items that would have gone into the waste stream which is in tern helping the environment. Making sure the fuel it took to plant and transport and the man hours of labor from field to store, are justified and not another economic misfortune. I love how you mention preserving and saving items. This is a great way to have an emergency food source in times of scarcity and economic uncertainty. Keep it up!!
Wow!! Thank you so much for your support!! I appreciate you mentioning that you are the coordinator at your local food bank, so other's can see that food waste IS a problem and that more food banks than just mine have an issue with having to throw out food! Thank you again Jacob!!
@@mamabairds I just wanted to let you know that I bought the Cranberry Walnut bread from Costco and made my chicken salad and it was amazing! I wouldn’t have thought about it, so thank you! 😊
This convinced me to take the help. We work, we have jobs, and we struggle. We don’t buy or have stuff others have. I’m tired of having to borrow money for groceries only for it to be a repeat process. Thank you for open my eyes, and helping me lift the shame cape.
Wow! Wonderful! So happy you have decided to take the help! We do not need it and we make enough (not bragging by any means) but if we needed it, I certainly would take the help. Honestly, I have thought about going because food is so expensive right now!!! So expensive! I think that if I could get some butter, berries or veggies, it might help us save ten or so dollars. It is horribly expensive! Very happy you are taking the help!!! Visit the food bank first and then get your groceries. 💗
Same, we got two incomes but they're disability and warehouse work cheques. We are noticing that where we used to get by, we don't have enough money to cover the produce delivery anymore. I'm gonna utilize this resource until proces go down at the stores
I’ve worked in a food bank and I remember folks coming in and literally telling me they felt shame. It broke my heart. I told him no one there is judging him. It’s why food banks exist. Times are hard. Especially now.
I don't know where the shame came from and started happening. It is heart breaking. I'm glad you told them that. Shaming people for needing food really needs to stop!
I’m a nurse. I worked in a local emergency room for many years. I think people need to stop worrying about the stigma of food banks and start feeding their children! Ur doing a great thing, trying to educate people that food banks r for anyone that needs a hand!!😊
There’s been a few times I’ve taken people to a food pick up. And they gave me the same boxes of food because they said it would be leftover at the end of the day. That they know people need it but they won’t come and get it. If you need food go get it people, there’s no shame in feeding your family.
@Lyric Melody Song I'm so sorry for your hard times right now! Our food bank offers a mobile drop off to some community members who can't get there. Maybe you can have a friend take you? Sorry I'm not much help. We have some that take the local buses and carry their groceries.
@Lyric Melody Song totally understand the no car thing, I’ve been there. I hope maybe a good friend/neighbor or even a family member could give you a ride. Sending prayers for you and your daughter. I pray your financial situation changes. 🤗
Girl I would much rather see people take and use this food for their families rather than it being thrown in the trash and wasted!! I think what you’re doing is awesome and an awesome way to save money and waste.
I'm a single retired senior that is blessed to have help when I need it I make my grocery list around what I get from the monthly food pantry in Chicago. I worked and paid taxes and supported our food banks with donations, food drives, and voluluteering, when I was working. The food pantry helps us to also cut down on waste. When we all say, "We all need to help each other," we need to remember that we all at times may need. We need the help or we help those that need. This month I got a nice produce box of califlower, peppers, onions, tomatoes, celery, peaches, apples and plums. The frozen raw meats were beef burgers, turkey burgers, chicken drumsticks, and chicken brushetta squares. I also got can goods, dish soap, laundry detergent, soap, shampoo and conditioner. I received eggs, 2%milk, almond milk, peanut butter and jelly. My big grocery cart was full with 3 boxes of food. I'm good for the month or more. I don't need to go every month.
That's amazing that you received so much that you don't need to go that often! It is so true that we all need to help each other and ask for help when we need it! Thank you for your comment and for sharing some of your story!
That’s amazing that you have such great food pantry’s that you can get non food items as well. I’ve gone once but they gave me a bag with a bunch of nothing pretty much so I havnt gone back. Certainly was nothing like these other food pantries. Also you don’t have to explain all that you’ve bean and done in your life up until now because if your in need it’s there for that reason. Godbless.
People should NOT judge other people for needing food. I am an older person with a fixed income who can't go to the grocery because I have no $. We live on a small farm with old animals requiring medical perscriptions ( as well as our own), and one kid in school, so yah, that food bank keeps us alive! Thank you dear volunteers at the food bank, the food bank, and the community for helping people like me. Thanks for making people aware of the help.
People sometimes make the mistake of thinking you have to be practically homeless to use a food bank. There are lots of people who aren't quite there, but are struggling (especially now). I also like the idea that food banks often have surplus restaurant goods. This reduces waste and nobody should feel bad about collecting some to use.
Carolina....well said! Single Mom here who "makes too much" to qualify for any assistance, yet strapped due to medical bills this year. I've used our local food bank so I can divert money to paying off medical. Ignore haters and judgemental people. Unless they are paying your bills they dont get a say. Do what you need to feed your family and keep the videos coming. God Bless. Oh....you and I should connect on FB or something. I think we would make great friends. 😃
I think so too! That's a great way to use the food bank as a resource! My husband just said today I needed to start a Facebook group! I'll get on that!
@Java and Gingerbread OMG! Girly...we used to do DT haul videos back in the day! I think I am still subbed to your channel. What a coincidence in finding you here! ❤️
We don't have a food Bank in my area. Sometimes the church will do a food giveaway. I am a senior who doesn't qualify for SNAP. I am not ashamed to go stand in the giveaway line, I would often starve without the food given. I am extremely grateful for the food given. I live off a small social security check that barely pays to keep this rundown shack that I call home. Thank you for the lovely video. Good luck with your channel.
You are absolutely right! I raised 4 children who are now adults. During their childhood I went to food banks many times. Thank you for helping people get over the stigma. The banks are there to help people.
I love this girl! I used to take my gram to the food pantry every month and they would give her a few boxes of food she loved getting to see what was diff each time. It helped her still cook great meals and really helped her out after her husband died
Anything that helps relieve some financial stress is a great thing to do for your family! So much food winds up in a dumpster in our country, it’s good to see people keeping it from going to waste;)
Yes it does! I had no idea how much food was wasted til I worked in a bakery at a grocery store. Literally carts of food just from my department, would get tossed daily.
Food recalls and food going in the dumpster makes me so mad!! Such a waste considering how many people need food!! Seems like in this country we can do a better job of preventing food contamination before it hits the markets.
@@susanf4857 Agreed. That' s a big issue with commercial "factory" food. The main goal is to pump food out to make money, Not caring about animal lives, sanitation, or quality of food. Great reasons to try and grow and provide for your self. But I do understand that a lot of people don't have that ability. This is a messed up world for sure.
Thank you for addressing the stigma of going to the food bank. Also a tip, freezing fruits are great for smoothies and freeze vegetables for stir fry or to roast them later on. It takes some time but prep everything right away and worth it. 🥰
I am a home care worker, who has to go weekly for clients. They run out of food, money and some don't get food stamps. These videos are great,to show my clients and reduce their anxiety and stigma of using a food pantry. Love 💘😻💜💛💚🧡💘 grandmother 👵
My husband and I fell on hard times recently for a multitude of reasons. So I started using my local food bank. We are able to use the money we are saving on groceries on other important things. I've used the food bank in the past as a single working mother trying to make ends meet. Its been a real help and I'm grateful. I'm also grateful to you for inspiring me to use and preserve what I recieve! Everything always looks so delish 🤗 yum yum yum! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I know it must be alot of work on top of doing ALL the things ❤
Yes that's great you are saving money and putting it elsewhere! That's what it is all about! And you are spot on with the videos being a lot of work! Haha! But this really has become my passion now, to share easy cooking with others! I really missed when I took a little break! Now I try to stress less about it all being perfect and let the kids come in if they want. I don't force them and only one at a time allowed! Haha! Thanks for the support and love Holly!
I work for a grocery store that donates food to local organizations. Part of my job is sometimes being assigned to processing the unsellable food for donation. It's sad what is considered unsellable, because the consumer expectation is perfection. However, I'm glad any food being deemed unsaleable is being donated and used. Since 2020 I have used up food considered expired or past its prime, because it is still good! My hope for future generations is that they stop taking for granted where food come from and our ability to obtain it
I agree with you. Most of the food is perfectly good at the food bank. Other's don't want it or can't afford it at the store. They put out so much food so it all looks stocked and pretty then throw half of it away. I hope the same thing for our next generation. I think by gardening and preserving our food, I am hopefully teaching that to mine!
As someone who has worked & RECEIVED! From the food bank I love that you show ppl how to use stuff. I actually grew up in a house where my parents didn’t know how to cook from scratch so I didn’t either. When I needed. To use one later on for bags of beans and rice I honestly didn’t know what to do with them. I luckily figured it out but it’s amazing to have you in here showing people!
Thank you! That's great you figured out the rice and beans! Not everyone can and they just don't know what to do with all of it. I'm just glad I can help! Thanks for commenting and the support!
I subscribed to your channel today mostly because of your intro. I just moved in with my elderly parents to help us both out. (They are on a fixed income and I work full time.) We are only paying 1 set of bills this way. I have thought often of going to the mobile food pantry but hesitated because we are ok but things are tight. Thank you for cementing it in my mind that it is ok to go once in a while to supplement what we have. I won't go often but I will take the extra help. Thank you for making that intro. Blessings to you.
You are most welcome! That was exactly my intention with my intro! For those who think it's not for them, but are still struggling and could really use it! I think it's great that you moved in with your parents. Honestly, more and more of that will be happening with the rescission coming. Multi generation households are going to be coming back so families can survive. I'm trying to get my mom to move here with me and my mother in law already does. Nothing wrong with it at all! If you all get along that is! Haha! Thanks for commenting and subscribing!
@@mamabairds I think you are right about families moving in with each other becoming more of a thing. And we do get along.....most of the time😁 We are ok financially but I feel this sense of hardship coming and it is coming fast and I do not think we are prepared enough for that. When I do go I would like to set some of that aside like you said and keep rotating things out to be ready if hardship hits. I do not yet know how to can but I would like to try so that we can preserve what we get no matter where we get it from. Thank you again for showing how food banks are not only there for the homeless but can also be there to help those who are finding getting by a little harder nowadays.
@@mamabairdsI live with my adult son. We do what we need to do, and happily we get along just fine, but we have struggled like everyone else, especially after I injured myself two years ago and had to go on disability.
We have a few surplus food places giving away food I used to beable to go a lot but then moved and now I go once a week if I can or they're kind enough to deliver to me it does really help. They always have a bag ready fir me with other things with longer dated things and eggs or milk. Thank you for this video I was always and still sometimes think I shouldn't be going to the food bank but because food has gone through the roof I have no other choice. I went to my supermarket last week and got 3 bags of hardly anything for £67 it really was hardly anything and I tried to get the cheaper stuff :(
My church hosted several food giveaways during Covid. People from all walks of life came. We would do them 9am-12noon and never had to turn anyone away because we ran out. You are very resourceful with you menu planning, great job!
Empty mayo jars are perfect for keeping dry products, like your sugar, salt, herbs, spices, teabags, elbow macaroni, etc. Keeps the cupboards clean and orderly, and avoids insects getting into your items. 😊❤🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
1) I love this video - even when I got my first apartment last year I was struggling with jobs during COVID and the food bank helped me a lot. Gives a lot of good staples and if I had money leftover I could get anything else at the grocery store. It is a great option for anyone in need, especially with how difficult it is to afford anything now. 2) I also love that you grabbed the bag of nectarines with one moldy one because the rest were still good - just because there's one rotten piece doesn't mean the whole bunch is bad and it's a great way to reduce food waste!
Love how you take care of your family and want to share skills so others can learn the same. Folks criticizing you are being petty and not worth your time. Food bank is available for the exact reason you are using it - to help when there is a gap in being able to care for self and loved ones. You rock!
Used to live in NorCal and the fires were terrifying, and the smoke could be so thick. Stay safe, everyone, who is in a fire zone! Edited to add: yep, no time for haters! When we were going through a really tough time, I had no idea we could even go to a food bank…I thought you had to be homeless or on food stamps, or something like that. I didn’t know most people can go with no questions asked. These videos are a great way to reduce shame, and help people learn to cook! My parents were raised during the Depression and WWII…they saved everything, no food was ever wasted (“starving children in China!” Any kids from the 70s can relate, lol) but it was a way of life I learned. My father grew up on a farm, during the Depression and the War, family members who lost their home or needed more food, could live at the farm, help work the farm, and get plenty of food. No shame in that! No shame in anyone falling on tough times…and reducing food waste is so great! Using a food bank actually helps the country with reducing food waste…it doesn’t take away people’s tax dollars…most food banks are volunteer organizations, and if the government helps some…especially in places that don’t have very much food to give…people need it. It’s food! We all need it, be kind, be generous, be open minded!
You say it Molly!! You know, mentioning your father and the way you grew up, have you found him to become a hoarder or one who just can't get rid of anything? My MIL is like that and all of her sisters. They literally won't throw away anything!! My MIL buys so much junk whenever she has extra money, which isn't often...and then it stays in the bag and goes on a shelf and lives there til she dies and we will have to throw it away. IDK....I don't get it. I try to throw away a chipped glass that will cut you if you take a sip from it and she digs it out to glue it. WHY??!! ok, random rant over! Haha. Just wondering if it's that time frame people grew up. They were use to nothing so now they have to have everything. Idk...
@@mamabairds Neither were “hoarders” and neither would spend money on things they didn’t really need, but, they would use something until it totally wore out…didn’t see the point of having color TV until the late 70s, and everything that wore out, was ‘repurposed’ such as sheets/towels/shirts were made into rags. Old news papers were fire starters, and liners for the trash can…that kind of thing. They did love to travel, and spent money on that. My mother also loved to have dinner parties, and would spend a lot on china/crystal and cookware. She also spent a lot to renovate/redecorate the house…but she also knew down to the penny what was in the bank! By the time I came along, my parents were doing very well financially, but they, my mother, particularly, were very careful with money.
And let me tell you food waste is a problem. I live in CA and it kills me to see the fruit rotting on trees and all on the ground. I only have a persimmon tree in my yard since we are renters. But I pick and share mine
Don't even feel a need to explain. Those people who are hating and making rude comments aren't even worth ur time. I'm so glad to hear all of ur positivity. 💓
I just found this channel and have SHARED!! This video is so important! I am a 51 year old working single mom of 2 little ones. I have held a full time job since I was 13- (no 'gaps' in work history)- 2013 the government shut down and I was out of work-- I struggled at the food pantry- so upset and embarassed, both kids in tow- the people there were SO NICE! I received so much food! Much I didnt know what to do with(being lower income I ordinarily wouldnt buy alot of that "fancy" stuff). Thank you so much for normalizing being a normal struggling working household just trying to make ends meet! Bless you and your family💝
You have some great ideas in the kitchen. Kindness goes a long way like the gentleman that gave your kids the cake. Some of the most generous people that I have met in my lifetime have been some of the poorest people. One of the food banks I would go to years ago was on a bus line, and sometimes people would not have enough money for the bus fare back home. So the ones that was still in line would dig in their pockets and purses for a little bit of change to help raise bus fare for someone to get their food haul home. I have seen men that would hand a packed child stroller into the bus to help a young mom out or offer to take them home. We are all in this together and sharing what we can, will make it a better world for someone.
That was very well said Janet! I agree that those who have less tend to give more. It was so nice of him and he totally made our day! We are most defiantly going to be paying it forward!
I just found your channel and watched it for the first time. I love that you show people what to do with the food they get. My husband ran a food bank for 5 years along time ago. My son started a food bank 2 years ago now my husband runs it. We never ask anyones income. We figured you would not come if you didn’t need it. People in all walks of life have hard times especially now. We live in Washington state there is soooo much food out there going to waste I just hate it. We get so much food that we just let people walk through and take whatever they want. We don’t have enough storage to keep it all. Unless someone is being greedy and wants to take all of something 😬. We are open two days a week and you can come when you want. Looking forward to watching your show. Maybe I will share some of your recipes at the food bank. ❤
Big thank you to you and your family!! You have probably helped thousands of people throughout the years get the food that they needed!! Thank you so much for being here and for sharing your experiences!
Totally agree. Well said. We don't qualify for any kind of assistance. But we barely get by after paying our bills. You are so blessed to be able to go to a food Bank. I totally hit that sub button.
I think your doing a good service to show people how to cook with the food bank food , that will help many that really have a need but don’t know how to cook it , good job ❤
I love your channel. What a blessing the foodbank is to your family. I go weekly to a local one. People will always find something to make a fuss about. Ignore them. So many people are here to support you.
People really do! I couldn't imagine being the type of person who always has something negative to say or they need to belittle you because they feel like they are better. Or they are projecting. I've learned a lot about that and realize I did it a lot myself. But looking inward and really evaluating WHY you do things and HOW you can be better is the first step in changing toxic behavior. I hope to be able to communicate calmly and rationally to others, especially my children. I don't want anger and hate to be their first response to someone else and their struggles. Thank you for all the kind words and support! I truly appreciate it!
Hey Girl Thank you for being YOU! making people to feel good and better about themselves and that there is resources out there for them and how to use them to do for their families.
What I think is awesome is that you are putting celery into your chicken salad even though you don't like it. It's cool that you're letting your kids decide on their own. That's parenting level 1000%! You gained a new subscriber!
Hey girl! ❤ just wanted to say that I volunteer on Mondays at a food bank (and pick up food when I'm there). There is no shame in going and I always tell people that when they look ashamed as I walk them through the isles. Every one deserves to eat and have their load lightened when needed. If it's $100 a month of scratch and dented or expired food, so be it. And! For how many pounds of food we give to our community, we still THROW SO MUCH FOOD AWAY! Simply because no one thinks "hey, there are a lot of green peppers here and they're telling me I can take as much as I'd like. I can chop those up as soon as I get home and use them for the months to come." Because people just don't know they can do those things. You're doing great, mama!
Yes!! People think they are taking too much or from others when they take a lot of one thing, but in reality they are keeping the food from going bad! If the food bank says they have a lot and take what you want, for real, LOAD UP!! Thanks for sharing some of your experiences with food banks!
Last fall I would spend several days a week volunteering at a local food bank. They were a blessing as my son could also come (he was the reason we went, he needed a good thing for his hands to be doing and safe people for him to be around). I also started to recognize people, a few it felt like our souls recognized each other from the get go, something I had not experienced in a while. At the end of the night it was not uncommon to have fresh produce left over or bread. If it was still good I would take it and pass along to others I knew who knew what to do with food like this, and they would pass along what they didn't need. Almost like a behind the scenes food pipeline. The bad produce was set aside for local farmers to pick up for their animals. They didn't always come, though. Point being, even in a large city not everything was handed out every night they were open.
I love your attitude! People love to judge and put other people down. You have convinced me to go. I’m looking forward to it and all I have for the beasts that judge is my sweet smile☺️
This is actually my first video of yours I’ve watched. I loved the message in the beginning ❤️ never bother with negative people. We’re all blessed to learn from you. Thank you for being so informative.
We've been through hard times. Now we support 4 Food pantries. You do what you need to do. I used to drive someone to the local food pantry every week, they gave me dried beans because no one would take them. You feed your family. Tina, Al's wife
Going to a food bank is definately needed with the cost of food recently! There is nothing to be ashamed about. Your chicken salad and the cauliflower salad looked amazing! Going to give these recipes a try!
It's so wonderful to see the supermarkets, Panera and whoever donates the food they would have thrown out. I am a fan of dumpster diving videos. The things these people throw out makes me sick. Stuff not even expired or recalled! Aldis is awful. The produce they toss is still perfect! I say do whatever you can for your family. Food bank around me require all kinds of documents, to show you need it. My son signed up to help at a soup kitchen. I volunteered too. Since it was his school, they bought the groceries for the chili they made. One of the teachers made it too spicy. They made rice but spiced that too. Heartbreaking seeing a little one with a runny nose and she just sat there watching people eat. They wouldn't allow me to make her a PB + J sandwich because they has a strict no substitute policy. I gave her two portions of the corn bread and told her Mom to grab "dessert" early before the larger muffins were gone. They had me cut them in half but I was happy to see she took her half and gave them both to her daughter. I'm a single Mom. My ex worked and wanted me home. He became abusive and my little man called the police, Child protective services did not allow him back. Which was fine but we lost our sole form of income! We had a program in our city for domestic violence victims. They not only helped with counseling for us both but so much more! God Bless to you and your family!
Love your food prep tips! I work at my church's Food Bank, tithe my SSecurity income to support it, AND receive food from it. Total blessing all around. Zero shame. Our Food Bank is supplied with expired and "past prime" food from all of the grocery stores in our community. This is by far the major source of the food we distribute. The rest is a bit of canned goods, peanut butter, rice etc which is government supplied. I am proud to be a part of our Food Bank and to help end the waste of food. I pick through and freeze most of what I receive to stop the spoilage - then use as needed.
That's awesome! I think those that are shaming us for going to the food bank, have honestly never seen how much food actually gets thrown away. Even after the food bank closes. They are still throwing away food. It really is a shame...Thanks for commenting and sharing your story!
Buy me a coffee to support this channel! Or you can pick something off my wish list to help! Thank you for the love and support! www.buymeacoffee.com/mamabairdsT
The state of Montana should give you a stipend for teaching it's constituents how to use the items they receive. Great vid and great use of items all the way to the making of broth with the bones. I even use the bones after they have been through that process by adding them to my bokashi bin. The bokashi is then added to my compost bin which really heats it up and makes great compost in much less time than normal.
Forget the haters! I love your meal ideas, you always use items that I wouldn't think of using. I've never thought of having bacon cooked up and in the freezer ready to go. Thank you
Hey listen all you need to know is that I am a huge fan of your content and I am here to stay you are a true inspiration a wonderful role model a wonderful mother wife and you are doing the best you can for your family sending you and your beautiful family positive vibes and lots of blessings take care sweetie 😘🥰
Your very welcome sweetheart I am just speaking the truth you are a great mother and you are doing a great job please ignore the hateful things they are not to your level ever great video like always blessings
I hope this video helps anyone who utilizes a food bank/pantry. I used to intern at my local food bank and while all food banks would love to have a chef on staff (some larger food banks do), not all of them can. So, I think these videos are awesome to show all of the meals you can make using food from the food bank. Thank you for sharing this! I loved it and found it helpful.
I haven't even finished the video and I'm giving you a thumbs up! Yes, you can go to the food pantry every month! Yes, you can take what you will use and not feel shame about it! Yes, you deserve to eat! After our twins were born, I remember trying to dumpster dive because we didn't have enough food stamps to eat and no other way to pay. Rotten cheese and moldy bread. We live in the country but I can't grow anything without the weeds overtaking it (I am NOT a great gardener!) Thankfully, I have a vehicle and I can visit the food pantries in our town, each will give to our clients once a month/every 30 days. I've been volunteering in some of them for 9 years now, and we get new clients in every time. Food is becoming a major line item in everyone's budget!
For those who need it the food pantry is a great resource. You do not need to be homeless or completely destitute to use those resources. However, the agency’s do require you to tell them your income. This is to attempt to assure that it is going to those who need it. If you fall within those guidelines and you feel that you have a need, there is no shame in taking the help! Do what you need to take care of your family! On a side note, thank you for the tip about cleaning the fresh produce.
When i was pregnant with my oldest Son i worked, volunteering in a food bank as well as bringing food home with me after working my shift i got to shop and bring home what i would need or use in my home for my family.
This is really great! Apparently, Americans are now eating at fast food restaurants in record numbers because of the cost of groceries. Good for you for showing them that it's okay to use the food banks and you're showing them how to cook...yay!
I think your state is awesome to have extra food donated to families. The average Joe’s food costs for the family have gone up 40% or more! I wish I knew half of what mama B knows about cooking. It all looks delilishes, she is so knownable and I love her cooking style! She does a hard job made to look not so hard but we know it’s not easy! Thank you Mama B! And please take a break so you don’t burn out!😇Thanks
Hey... I just started myself to help break the stigma and taboos surrounding food banks and getting the help you need without being embarrassed about it... I am glad there are others out there doing the same!!! Love your videos!!! Got a new sub in me!!! 💚
First time watching your videos. You are so right. The food banks are such a blessing to our family. I go to one that is once a month they give out meats. ( sometimes the meat is bad and it has to be thrown out😕)There is one that is once a week they give out produce. There is produce that people don't know what it is, so they don't get it. I get it and research how to use it. Dehydrating, canning ,and freezing, the items that are extra or about to go bad help so much when there isn't much the next week. Our family works, grows some veggies, and get some items from the store. Food banks help filll in the gaps. Don't listen to the negative comments.
Sounds like you know what's up! I love that I get pretty much forced into trying new foods and recipes because of the random stuff I get at the food bank! Stuff I probably would never get to try! It really is so amazing and helpful to my family! You are a working hard to provide for yours! Great Job!!
I appreciate you for speaking up about people that say negative things about people going to the food bank. In the past my husband and I utilized the food banks in the neighborhood where we lived. They didn't have all the special foods your food bank has. Also we could only go once a month to each of the food banks they had. We weren't getting much in food stamps at that time. That is why we went to the food banks to supplement what we didn't have.
Never apologize for going to the food bank. People that make negative comments will never understand no matter how much you talk. They don't matter. I have a Bachelor's degree and my husband also has a degree. We were working, we had savings, we had a house etc etc etc... Then I became disabled at 33. One day you would never think of going to a food bank, and then the next day, life is totally different and you are standing in a line being grateful. The chicken salad looks good. I add eggs to decrease the amount of chicken. When the boxes were weird, we called that our "Chopped" box and we had to pick 5 ingredients and make dinner in 20 minutes. To this community, give when you can, receive when in need. PS, you need a griddle, girl!!
You go girl I Love You! You are processing the extra food. We work our tails off at the local mission. I would be glad to help you anytime. You are a wonderful cook.
Yes, scrape the container!! I would even throw some of the cut grapes and celery in the container and put the lid on and shake to get every last drop 😂 Great use of the food!! I saw you saved the fat from the chicken, what about the chicken bones? Could you put bones with fat and the other trimmings you saved for a broth too? I always save my veggie scraps as well for broths! 😊 Yes bugs love fresh organic food just like us 😋♥️❤️
I am so happy that I happened on your channel today. We also utilize our food pantry. We grow a very large garden every year to share with ours, my husband also They in turn have in turn provided us with things that our special needs son needs for his special diet.He is fed by a g tube and we make his formula with fresh ingredient. He has many dietary limitations, it seems like most of the things he can have other people don't like. It is such a wonderful trade off! I have also shared a menu plan using most everthing recieved in that weeks box--menu planning and home cooking are among my favotite things to do. I look forward to binge watching your previous videos and am now a subscriber! Keep up the great work..
That is fantastic!! That is a great way to give and receive at the same time! Awesome! What are some of the things you grow in your garden?! Thanks for the support and the comment!
In the town I live in they only allow you to go once a month but I go every month. Just came across your channel and now subscribed. Ignore the haters, there is nothing wrong with going to the food bank.
Mama Baird this is my 1st time I've been to your channel & my 1st video. It brought me tears cos you were having to defend yourself for going to the food pantry. I'm single, disabled (massive stroke survivor) in a wheelchair & homebound and lucky to have my local food pantry has a homebound program where they deliver to us. We may not get to choose what we get, but I'm totally blessed for getting it. I may be on EBT (food stamps) but with inflation my monthly EBT doesn't go as far as it used to so those 2 deliveries a month really help. You now have a new subscriber to your channel. Keep up the great work & God Bless You!!
Wow, thank you so much for sharing part of your story with me! You are so right that EBT doesn't go far these days. I'm so glad you have a mobile program that delivers to you! Thank you for your support and welcome to the family!
In Florida, Walmart does delivery on EBT orders over $35. Not sure about everywhere but it's worth looking into if you have a bigger order than you might normally need at some point.
Thank you for making it "ok" to go to the food bank. My husband and I both work full time and still have a hard time making ends meet at teh end of the month. So very thankful for our local bank
I just found you and subscribed. its very very nice to see someone your age be able to do these things and to think for ahead times. A lot of younger folks dont have the ability like you said to even know what to do with food from the grocery store let alone anything from the food bank. I dont personally go, but my sister takes my bro in law and if there is things they dont want they send over to me. I am not too proud to take it. I am glad you know how to do what you do. I will be watching more videos and never mind the haters!
Thank you so much! It really has just been the last 2 years that I've stepped up my game and learned how to preserve food. We moved to Montana to start fresh and we learned how to garden, so it was important for me to learn how to make it all last. I love being in the kitchen and my love for food has grown so much since I've left commercial kitchens! Thanks for being here and leaving such a nice comment! Welcome!!
@@mamabairds Most of of us has not been doing all this for a super long time. If you would of told me even 10 years ago I would be doing what I do I might not of believed you :) Its very important to learn to preserve and know what to do in the kitchen
I used to volunteer at local food banks in high school, not knowing that I'd one day be a low income single mom needing help while in college. The only reason I knew that resource was there for me was because I worked there. So many people who could use the help have no idea they qualify for it. The rude comments and people upset with you utilizing this resource are the same people who make comments about people utilizing ebt. I'm so glad they have never been in a position to need help, I hope they know how blessed they are. And I hope they kindly pull their head out of their butts and find something better to do with their time. As you said, your family works and pays into it, as do I and the majority of the people on assistance. I hope their high horse doesn't buck them off one day. But at least it would be a wake up call. 😏 Keep making your videos to educate people on how they can feed their families in this economy. Good work! ❤️
My only complaint is that these food banks are not in easy accessible areas. For some elderly people just the bus ride there and back is $8.00 . You just can’t ask someone to take you there because the gas is expensive.
I love this, love your channel, and your positivity. I wish I could get this message across to my sister. She posted a short recently, about how she feels ashamed that she had to go to the food bank. I'm, like No You shouldn't, but she don't listen to me 🤣 Uncle Chris sent me over to check out your channel, and I LOVE it!
Awesome channel! What a wonderful idea. I go to the food bank too. My friend goes to a lot of food pick ups and you should see the stuff she and her Mom canned this year! Potatoes, carrots, cabbage, apples...the list goes on. The government wants ALL Americans to use this food to supplement their groceries. It really started with the pandemic and with food prices the way they are now you can't afford not to use these services! Thank you for showing us how to use this food!
You be proud of what you do to feed your family. Just ignore those haters and keep on filling your pantry. Food in your pantry is like money in the bank.
One income family with medical bills, plus the cost of gas and groceries are killing our family that make too much for help. I hit up our local food bank twice a month. It has really helped. I completely agree with you. I have a garden and can produce and dehydrate. Do what you gotta do. Thank you for the video. Sorry about the ugly haters
I like that our local library has a little section where they have a little food pantry! Sometimes I grab a couple of extra type items like Mac and cheese cups for a treat for my daughter that are expensive in the store! They had some body wash there too!
Why would anyone be negative about these amazing videos? Keep rocking it sister!! I am glad your using the food banks but more importantly feeding your family healthy, yummy meals from the sometimes interesting ingredients you’ve picked up that week. I volunteered in a center where we supplied daily meals (breakfast/lunch) for our community. We bought from the food banks per pound- so we were setting examples of what they could make at home since it was all the same. I was able to find some very unique and tasty recipes…. Look up bills wafer cake- one week they delivered an entire pallet of nilla wafers. - like hundreds of boxes- 😂❤
Another really good thing you could do with the cauliflower is put it in the oven with some oil, salt, breadcrumbs (if you have them; you could use some old bread or those butts that you gave to the chickens) and garlic or garlic salt and the Asiago that you got as well. It is so delicious and a really good way to get kids to like vegetables
We have a local store owner that would donate for the soup kitchen. I helped a woman load her car with the donated items and the store manager/owner brought out another cart full of deserts that he marked down from their bakery. She told me that he always gives her a generous amount of food. He said she brings us great soups and meals for us to eat. He has since sold his store and I would hope they are continuing his generous offerings! I used to work in stores and their trash bins were loaded with wasted foods!
We have a huge hunger problem in our country, so many people are experiencing food insecurity. I absolutely love your creativity, humility and resourcefulness! We have a ton of bills and I was just laid off, this is also how we are making it :) now subscribing!
I think honestly if more people had experienced hardship and food shortages we wouldn’t have such nasty attitudes towards those who use food banks. You can usually tell how much people have struggled in life by how they judge others in a difficult situation.
@@batacumba I agree 100% Some of the most giving and caring people I've encountered are people who have nothing or came from nothing! It's so beautiful to see and I do wish more people were understanding. Most are...you just get those few who don't understand and get mean. Unfortunately those are the ones some people listen too and it stops them from seeking the help they need.
Love your channel! just found it! you're great on camera and I love what you do. I can stretch a dollar so far - its my fave hobby. Gonna binge your videos. I bet your subscribers will climb fast. especially in the winter when people start to really feel the pinch. Watching from east coast canada!
Thank you so much! Please comment if you have any tips or tricks! We also have a Facebook group that we talk about money saving and recipes! Would love for you to join! Welcome to the family Emily!
YES!! Love everything you said. We go to the food pantry at the Catholic church once a month. A lot of the non perishables are part of our emergency stockpile and the fresh stuff really helps us out sooo much in stretching our food budget. I am also going to find out if there is another good food pantry near me to help us even more. No shame ever! :)
Don't you just enjoy when people don't even understand that DHS pays for a cell phone and nicer then mine, they pay to fix your car, buy your gas, health Inc, furniture, power, money, ok I don't get all this but I did when my husband got everything in our divorce and wow did I need help so much. Living in a car with two kids after a 15 year marriage was heard how to take care of us. It's people like you who show there's help and how to clean homes for extra help and I can say I own two homes and one is for a safe house. I thank you on your helping I have learned new thing's.
Hey I think you do amazing stuff with what you get at the food bank! You certainly are amazing at preserving & making it all go to good use . I love watching . & there is absolutely nothing wrong with visiting a food bank! It's a great source to help making an income go further . Looking forward to the next video, & your chicken & broccoli salads look delicious wish I was there to have some ☺🥀🥀🥀Oh by the way keep up the good work making amazing food ..
@@HookingGoodCreationsbyTinaC Yay!! Thank you for telling me that!! So happy you tried and like it! That bread really is perfect for it!

This convinced me to take the help. We work, we have jobs, and we struggle. We don’t buy or have stuff others have. I’m tired of having to borrow money for groceries only for it to be a repeat process. Thank you for open my eyes, and helping me lift the shame cape.
YAY!! So happy I could help!! Nothing to feel ashamed about at all! So many are struggling, you are not alone!
Do NOT feel ashamed!! You are hard working people! with the heart in the right place! Times are hard! I am rooting for you! Greetings!
Wow!
It's the people that have money that bother me that go to the food bank
Tell em girl!!
You can go to the food bank once a week, in my town once a month
@Lyric Melody Song I'm so sorry for your hard times right now! Our food bank offers a mobile drop off to some community members who can't get there. Maybe you can have a friend take you? Sorry I'm not much help. We have some that take the local buses and carry their groceries.
@Lyric Melody Song totally understand the no car thing, I’ve been there. I hope maybe a good friend/neighbor or even a family member could give you a ride. Sending prayers for you and your daughter. I pray your financial situation changes. 🤗
@Lyric Melody Song catch the bus to the food bank and maybe get a small cart or just carry what you can maybe use a backpack? God bless you
Girl I would much rather see people take and use this food for their families rather than it being thrown in the trash and wasted!! I think what you’re doing is awesome and an awesome way to save money and waste.
Agreed!!
Blessings to you and yours.
Beautiful! So glad to hear that you are getting what you need to make ends meet
So true!!!
Godbless.
For the Mayo left on the sides of the jar add oil vinegar and seasoning shake and you have a creamy Italian dressing💕
Oh, I never thought about that! thank you for sharing that tip!
Yes, a big thank you to all who donate and work the food banks. THANK YOU!!!
People sometimes make the mistake of thinking you have to be practically homeless to use a food bank. There are lots of people who aren't quite there, but are struggling (especially now). I also like the idea that food banks often have surplus restaurant goods. This reduces waste and nobody should feel bad about collecting some to use.
Rent and Gas sent me to the Food Bank(s) for the first time. Thankful and Grateful for the blessing 🌹
I'm glad they are there for you! They really help so much!

@Java and Gingerbread OMG! Girly...we used to do DT haul videos back in the day! I think I am still subbed to your channel. What a coincidence in finding you here! ❤️
I want to be FRIENDS TOO.
Yes thank you!

The haters would sleep soundly if you were starving or they’re probably first in line🤨
Totally agreed Rhonda! And they will be the ones knocking when the food runs out.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And we do get along.....most of the time😁
We are ok financially but I feel this sense of hardship coming and it is coming fast and I do not think we are prepared enough for that.
Go as often as you need to! This way you can stock up and have a little peace of mind.

Yes, I've prepared food hampers for all sorts of folks from my couponing stockpile during the height of this pandemic.
Empty mayo jars are perfect for keeping dry products, like your sugar, salt, herbs, spices, teabags, elbow macaroni, etc. Keeps the cupboards clean and orderly, and avoids insects getting into your items. 😊❤🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
Great idea!
Do you need to vacuum seal the empty jars?
not if they are empty. If you put dry goods in there and want to keep them for back up, then vacuum sealing the lids would be a good idea!
Glass jars are better!

Thank you! I know a lot of other's would have passed on that bag because of that one piece! Thank you for your support and kind words!
Love how you take care of your family and want to share skills so others can learn the same. Folks criticizing you are being petty and not worth your time. Food bank is available for the exact reason you are using it - to help when there is a gap in being able to care for self and loved ones. You rock!
Man, I appreciate that! I agree with you 100%! Thanks for saying that!
Thank you!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words and support! The people at the food pantries really are so nice! And supportive! I love it!
Thank you so much! I'm very fortunate to have the food bank we do! It changed my family's world! Thanks for subbing!
I think your doing a good service to show people how to cook with the food bank food , that will help many that really have a need but don’t know how to cook it , good job ❤
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Well said ! Thank you for taking the time to help us learn and make life a little easier. You are a true pleasure!
Thank you Nancy!!
Yes! I always say if you need assistance get it. Never be ashamed. Don't let someone make you feel bad getting help you need.
Yes thank you!!
Oh the guy that abused me for getting food stamps for our child shamed me he is dead now unfortunately
@@MillennialMountainMama oh what a shame that is...
What I think is awesome is that you are putting celery into your chicken salad even though you don't like it. It's cool that you're letting your kids decide on their own. That's parenting level 1000%! You gained a new subscriber!
Aw thank you so much!! Welcome to the family!!

@@sukru6797 thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Going to a food bank is definately needed with the cost of food recently! There is nothing to be ashamed about. Your chicken salad and the cauliflower salad looked amazing! Going to give these recipes a try!
Thanks for the support and let me know if you give the recipes a try!
You are a very resourceful cook and your family should be proud of you......and a good cook to boot! You go girl!
Thank you so much!

Nice! I've dehydrated the bones and ground them for bone meal for my garden!
Wow. I love that your food bank is so blessed to provide so much. I'm only allowed to go once a month in my community.
I am so thankful I have an amazing food bank as well! I'm continuously blow away at what they give to others!
Me too
Forget the haters! I love your meal ideas, you always use items that I wouldn't think of using. I've never thought of having bacon cooked up and in the freezer ready to go. Thank you
Thank you so much! The pre cooked frozen bacon is a life saver!! So glad I started that habit!

Thank you so much!
Thank you, Momma Baird. Speak the truth! Really, there is no shame.
That's right! No shame at all and don't let others try and make you feel that way! It really has helped my family so much!
Well said Cindy! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I couldn't imagine living off fast food right now! It's crazy expensive as well! I appreciate the love and support!

I'm so happy to hear that! I'll go check out your channel! Thanks for letting me know and for fighting the good fight!
@@mamabairds Thanks so much for checking out my channel.. And thanks for also fighting against the stigmas attached to food banks!
Great Job!!
Hello how are you doing?
Good for you girl! You take care of your family and that’s what you’re supposed to do! Proud of you!
Thank you my friend!
Thank you for doing this. I do a lot of food prep and meal prep from the food bank !
Well said! That chopped box is a great idea! I do need a griddle! Sometimes I work two pans at once.
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
You go girl I Love You! You are processing the extra food. We work our tails off at the local mission. I would be glad to help you anytime. You are a wonderful cook.
Thank you so much Janice!!
😊 Yes bugs love fresh organic food just like us 😋♥️❤️
That's a great idea to put some grapes to get the last bit of mayo! I do save the fat and the bones for home made broth! Oh it's so good!
Thank you so much! Happy to have you here!
Your rant was exactly what we needed. Thanks for the motivation and empathy.
Thank you for making it "ok" to go to the food bank. My husband and I both work full time and still have a hard time making ends meet at teh end of the month. So very thankful for our local bank
We are very thankful as well! I'm glad you go when you need to! No shame!
Good work! ❤️
Thank you so much Brooke, for sharing your experiences with us!! I agree 100%. Thanks for your love and support!
My only complaint is that these food banks are not in easy accessible areas. For some elderly people just the bus ride there and back is $8.00 .
You just can’t ask someone to take you there because the gas is expensive.
@@evelinholmes6401 I agree. Some do deliver. But I know not all do. That would help so many who can't leave home.
You are so right! You shouldn't be ashamed at all! Welcome! Uncle Chris is the best!
Thank you for showing us how to use this food!
my mom loves going to pantry every week! it's like a adventure for her and she is a chef and works at a bakery lol
I bet she makes some good meals !!
Thank you!! There seem to be way more support than hate for me so im not complaining! Haha!
Thank you for taking the stigma out of accepting help. Being creative makes all the difference in working with what you have.🌻

Hello! As a firmer Montanan living in Massachusetts, I am so glad I found your channel! Keep it up!
I like that our local library has a little section where they have a little food pantry! Sometimes I grab a couple of extra type items like Mac and cheese cups for a treat for my daughter that are expensive in the store! They had some body wash there too!
Yes those are very helpful as well!
Oh that does sound delicious! Thank you for sharing that!
Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel! The food bank helps us so much! So glad you are using this resource as well!

Thank you so much!
All of us have experienced some level of food shortages. Thank you for sharing. Love this.
You are so welcome!

There ya go! Making a stockpile from the non perishables! You know what's up! I have no shame either! Thanks for the comment!
