You’re a true soldier, man. Risking carpal tunnel via “burn downs” and dropping guns and optics left and right. All for your viewers. I think I can speak for most when I say we appreciate the content you put out. Great video!
Great vid! I've got too many pistolas already, so slightly rich for my blood/collection. However, I'm a huge 509T fan. Mine will only kiss cement when I do it first, so I'm glad you're dropping them all over the place! Seriously, I can't understand why you don't have at least 80,000,000 subs!

I love watching videos of guys who are reviewing a gun that they actually like. It really makes a difference. I’m not that interested in the gun at all, but the video was great.
I must say I have an original STI Tactical 4.0 but it was a non-optic version, but the more I see these Staccatos I really want to get one… I have had a great experience with my H509T and I have great confidence that I could not even come close to punishing it like Mr. Cowan does. Great vid as always
Aaron, Staccato should send you guns to review. Garand Thumb got me interested in the Staccato P but your tests sold it. Love the channel man, look forward to coming to one of your trainings now that I don't work 80 hours every week!
I have heard that Stacatto’s come with magazines that lock back, and “competition” mags that don’t lock back. They include both. Which is kind of nice!
Being a lefty as well I’m glad you hit the point as to how well it is for a lefty to manipulate. My glocks I have to use aftermarket mag releases for them to be comfortable, the sig M17 that I carry on duty I can easily manipulate the mag release with my middle finger however I hate the sig and the safety on it is ridiculously hard to manipulate. My Kimber 1911 is relatively easy for lefty shooters as well.
Any new pistol being sold will have to offer an optic ready model if they want my attention. The benefits of an RDS is off the chart, faster target acquisition, precise shot placement, ease of use. Once you learn to acquire the dot, it will improve everything you do!
I owned a Wilson EDCX9 for a couple years and had it cut for a RMR. When it was so said and done, the Wilson Combat EDCX9 was at a minimum $2000 more expensive than the STI equalivent, it made my decision really easy. Both firearms are fantastic, but there is a substantial difference in price!!!
yeah but i rather pay 3k for a gun you know will run like a horse and last forever and keep its value and you can depend your life on it and know it wont jam its worth mor in my opinion when ever your getting a gun if price is your concern then why are you getting one lol
Yay. Another leftie. Hi 👋🏾 there. Lol. I own a 2011 Staccato XL in Chrome and it’s my carry gun. Been carrying it for about a year and a half and absolutely love it as my carry pistol. Great 👍🏾 video
Staccato is making a great 2011 for the masses. I just wish the had a bit better blending on the thumb safety paddles. It’s a small issue that they and Dan Wesson just can’t get a handle on.
I’ve had the same issue with the slide not locking you cannot rub that slide i mean it makes sense with the spring that comes in the XL you can air rack it out of the box
Not likely to get a Staccato XL, but still enjoyed (and learned from) your video. Thank for being one of the ever decreasing number of "gun" channels that puts honesty and objectivity before payoffs and political lectures. Thanks again!
can you do a review on the regular size RC2? really wanting to see the burndown on that to observe the tone over sustained fire. No one has any data on that yet
8:13 do you run the atlas competition mags? They are built to not lock back. By shorting the follower and removing the ledge that interacts with the slide stop, the mag can fit one extra round in it.
I completely understand why you drop them but it still makes me cringe a little when I see it get the concrete... It's like watching a wreck you know it's gonna sucks but you still can't look away. Definitely a cool gun and great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
So as a lefty who's interested in this gun, do they have the ability to switch the mag release to a left hand friendly orientation? I always switch over for my duty handguns (I'm a glock man) but I recently became open to the idea of a 2011. Love the look of them.
Very seriously considering this model for my bullseye league and possibly USPSA down the road. Really wish it was direct-milled for the RMR footprint tho so I can run an SRO without a plate, which is unquestionably a potential failure point.
I want this if the trigger can be tuned to 4lb-4.5lb for defense EDC/range use. I am not really into competitions. Got to save up for several months to get this though 😂
Aaron, would you recommend stocking up on Staccato/STI mags or Atlas mags? I’ve got 7 black gen 2 Staccato and Triarc mags for my P Duo, but I’m curious how the Atlas mags perform. Could you do a little video on the various 2011 mags you use since they have traditionally been the weakest link on the 2011 platform. Also, CHPWS is working on a new Staccato plate design and they hinted it will use multiple mounting screws. It might be worth giving them a call for your P and C2.
One thing I like about 1911s in general as a lefty or my old sti 2011 is that I can lock the slide back or drop the slide with my trigger finger manipulating the slide stop Also bonus little thing for leftys on am ar15 style weapon as well provided you got long enough fingers
I have a Staccato P w/ CHWPS plate for an SRO. The slide mounting screw came loose after about 500 rds. The plate I have has the same slide mounting system as the 509T, one screw in the rear iron sight. Many online forums complain about this plate coming loose. Dave Dawson suggests using a tiny bit of Loctite Red 262 for his plate. What loctite or magic did you use to keep the plate secured to your slide?
Got a question for you: My HE509T's clamp seems to cant a bit inward at the top (cant outward at the bottom) when I have it on my CHPWS plate. I got a replacement for my original CHPWS plate which was, in a word, a mess. I've seen similar cant on other mounting systems with the 509T, but want to make sure that I don't need to send it in for another replacement.
Curious,..why did you not want to use the plate that came with the Staccato with the 509T? I am getting a Staccato P and thought about putting my 509T,..but now I am not sure about using the supplied optic plate.
In case you haven't heard the news yet, apparently Steiner just came out with a handgun rds called the MPS and it has the same footprint as the Aimpoint ACRO. I bought one for my P10 C but would love to hear your thoughts on it.
On the ambi thing, as a predominately left hand shooter I like a safety(assuming the gun has one) on both sides of the gun. However, a slide lock/release on the right side of the gun is not needed and annoying. I wish gun manufacturers would stop with the complexity and bulkiness.
Have you checked out the aimpoint acro p2. They say they fix the problems the first version had, but would like to see your take nd test on it. See if it really improved or not
At the current prices of ammo and the fact Aaron runs a ton of Premium Speer Gold Dot during his testing, he spends almost if not more than $2k per week and that doesn't include the price of the guns, magazines and any other expenses. His videos probably cost $4-5 thousand bucks per week. So I'm saying, it is probably the right thing to do and send him a few bones for his videos!!!!
