If you carry a tire patch kit. You also need to pack a sewing 🧵kit. Anyone who travels or go camping needs one. If your bag or clothing breaks when traveling. You have a means to repair it on the go.
After 10,000 + miles the bags look pretty good. Like you said, you went with what you could afford. You’ve made the system work for you. Thanks for the review. I ended up going with Oveja Negra bags. Like you, I stuff them with dry bags. It’s a reasonable compromise.
You don't have to try Ortlieb , just get APIDURA Expedition series , the one you have is Backcountry, cheaper version , not waterproof ... You'll see the difference and never forget : WHAT YOU PAY IS WHAT YOU GET😉
For $150 USD you get the complete setup from Rockbros. Handlebar bag, top tube, frame bag, and saddlebag and all waterproof. Same exact thing, not nearly as expensive. Gets you out on the road.
5:25 "it's not waterproof, it's absolutely not waterproof..." Wow, for the cost of this, it should be waterproof. I'll stick with my clearance-priced saddle bags (C$35 for both).
I have cycle commuted to work for years, with a bike, originally using rucksack and then panniers. Recently I did a short cycling tour and looked into bike packing bags, I concluded that there is a reason why a pannier rack and bags had been the norm for so many years. Although a rack does add weight and pannier bags increase width that weight is being supported from underneath, rather than hanging from relatively small material mounts, which will always fail after a period of time. However I did use an additional handlebar roll bag, but after a lot of investigation I could not justify the cost. I built one for less than £30 using a 25L dry sack, some shaped plastic sheet, high density rubber to push the unit away from the handlebars and some webbing, clips.
Cr Comments, "additional handlebar roll bag,... built one for less than £30 using a 25L dry sack," hey that was my idea exactly. I certainly have enough of those things just laying around, not being used. Got any pictures of that setup?
I have that same zefal top tube bag and hate it because it's too wide, I either have to focus on keeping my knees out, or just let them rub. neither of which I want to do on a long ride, comfort is key. do you not have the knee rub issue with that bag?
It sways when you out of the saddle but other than that its fine. Doesn't affect riding to much, but stuffing the bag to much can affect riding a bit as the bag can rub against your leg.
Well used for the last few years you say? You’ve well had your money’s worth then? If the saddle bag was not showing wear and tear , it would be weird wouldn’t it? I have the Expedition version, it;s waterproof, and as it fits my bike, there aren’t any worn patches. Be sure to measure your placement areas before buying the bags, Apidura provide all the measurements you need. We all of us, have our own budgets and way of doing things, and we can all criticise I am aware of that, main thing is, you enjoyed your bike packing trips and these bags served you well. Thanks for the vid.
Yes I was only just sharing my honest opinion they are still very good products and they've improved a lot since people have used them in the beginning. I will say the bags are a bit overpriced still you can find cheaper variants from different companies now. But yes I'm very grateful for what the bags we're capable of doing.
What is the warranty on these bags. I would think they would replace the bags for you with all the problems you’re having regardless of the mileage on them
Hey man, great review! I got the same saddle bag and it has the same issues. I put duck tape and it kinda helped. What do you have to say about those aero bars, how do you like them? What aero bars are they?
Thanks :) These Areobars are from Decathlon by BTwin there is a store in Sydney but I think that's the only one so far there are way more stores in Europe. none in North America from what I've seen. The cost $75 AUS :)
Don't know if you got a Walmart where you live but you can go to the fabric section and get a fabric glue and Patch your bags it's called Eat 6000 there's several different brands and they come different sizes and they're strictly for fabric and gluing them and you can add plastic dinner mats that are like 25 to 30 cents for these little plastic sheets and cut them down and shape you want it just looks like restrictions paper but there now plastic and you can stiffen your bags up and reinforce your your seams and stiffen the bag so they they don't rock around as much in Indian stuff inside won't wear on the bag itself there's a really expensive one that you can get it's a cutting mat for cutting material it's gray and Scott little grid lines on it and you can cut it with a heavy duty pair of scissors and the shapes you want are reinforced your bags and it'll stop that shaking that you get back and forth with your big bag but personally I'd push put them bicycle rack on and or at least put a street rakdos support it and that way you know it's tough a lot of the movement you get and a handlebar front rack they make different types of Summer bags and more small reading make your own to go to the the dollar store or a junk shop and look for a little wire baskets that have like an oval it's like 7/8 in Long by 45 in wide and just take it to of vice and bend it and then a 90 degree angle or 45 and mount it to your front tube with zip ties and you're good to go
That’s a lot of miles, kilometers, on your gear! I don’t ride huge miles like that but I’m so Texan that any top tube bag has to be able to hold my small handgun, ha ha. Force of habit after 34 years of police work. Stay safe!
I just bought a complete set of bags was looking for an honest review thanks for the video

This was super-useful - really good to see how these things hold up over time. Thanks!
Amazing durability from the packs considering the mileage and usage! Thx for the vid

No sense in using up resources if its not waterproof
17,000 km? I think you had your money;s worth out of them? Thanks for sharing.
I don’t know. To me the bags looks amazing after 17000km!!! Don’t think my ortlieb would be in any better shape. Good review though.

Pro, extremely detailed review! Thanks!!!

do you not have the knee rub issue with that bag?
I did have that sometimes depends on the length of the top tube bag, it was cheap bag and wearing long shorts remove the rubbing on top the skin.
Looking into the expedition models right now, excellent review and good points. Question : what your total weight fully loaded ?
22kg roughly including the bike
What size frame do you ride, just wondering if I would have the same clearance issues on a 60 cm frame
Ty for sharing this , this video made my day, subscribed!
Spray the bag with 3M waterproofing spray. Its not expensive and it really does help make bags waterproof
Good suggestion 👌😁
just wondering, would it be good to use waterproofing spray on the outside of the bags?
Might help yes.
Hey dude, nice review! Quick question about how to carry your camera setup on the bike?
Just a same point and shoot Lumix. And a gorilla pod can be useful and small.
Hello.
Is the seat bag swaying too much when riding a bike?
It sways when you out of the saddle but other than that its fine. Doesn't affect riding to much, but stuffing the bag to much can affect riding a bit as the bag can rub against your leg.

Which Chinese manufactures you mean to compare? Thanks
Roswheel for example. Best search on amazon and you will see many different brands. I haven't seen many with 17L though..

well I asked and they said no. :(
The One Good Road Good to know!
I just can feel your but man how is everyone okay? After 1 to 2 hours i just cant ride

@@TheOneGoodRoad thanks. I'm looking for some good quality, but affordable aero bars. I'm always in a budget :)
you can order from Decathlon overseas?
@@TheOneGoodRoad I just found a store in SF. I'll give them a visit on the weekend :)
Have they updated the bags from the 1st generation?
Yes I believe they have, too expedition 2 gen. and backcountry is 1st gen.

John Does, man that's one long senseless sentence.
How do you rate the bike after 17000 kms?
Well I've ridden on many different bicycles with these bags. This bike though, I sold it and its still going on its third owner!
Super video!
thanks :)

haha love it ;D
Ehm....do you know how much you say 'ok'?
yeah, I know ;)
great review, hopefully Apidura sponsored your video.
Partially yes. After my original saddlebag got run over by a truck they supplied another unit, I was rather grateful for this!
Dude, you really have to get a tripod, watching this video feels like being seasick on the titanic...
Lesson has been learned, this is one of my old videos have a look at my newest videos to see the difference 👌
