I would love an XFR, I only have a 3.0 litre XF - the new XF/XJ/F Type jags will go down as design classics in the next 20 years just as the E Type did.
I have brought a Jaguar XF R Sports 2.2i Diesel 2015 and it is being delivered tomorrow I can’t wait 😊 I am so excited to own one and can’t wait to drive it to work thank you Jaguar 🐆👏👏👏👏👏👍🏻
Front heavy for that jump! I think you did some damage underneath. Did you get in trouble for that not-so-good idea? Why would you even try that on such a nice car?
...the thing is, this car is on the old DW98 Ford platform that the S-Type was launched on! Yeah, it's had a few mods along the way; different subframes and the like but it does have its ancestry back there.
I'm guessing the displayed speed is incorrect by xMPH to help prevent accidental speeding tickets. Therefore when it says 160MPH it may well be only doing 155.
No point comparing this XFR to the F10 M5, the E60 is its contemporary. As one who has owned both an E60 and (now) an XF (but only the Diesel S :-() the XF is a far better dynamic machine, i.e. it's better to actually drive! And even the XF Diesel S has 60lb/ft more torque than the M5, the XFR has 80lb/ft more. In real driving, it's mid-range torque that drives the car. I tried a BMW 5, a 5GT and a 7 before buying the XF. As a driver's car, the XF is just in a higher league, and because it's the Portfolio, it's better equipped too. And let's be honest, above 150mph performance is just bragging rights in the pub, unless your commute is round the Nurburgring.
Looking back on Top Gear's review of this car, James May would agree that the XF/Supercharged is better than the regular E60, but Clarkson gave the M5 the slight edge over the XFR *on the track,* despite the torque deficit. (The Bimmer posted faster lap times than the Jag, and offers a more visceral track day experience.) Both agree, however, that the XF/R drives better on the road.
nice jump.. its a beast.. i think the front bumper got tapped if i look at the sides at the wheels popping out when it hits the ground.... but overall very nice
@AnAngryPossom Thats a popular misconception. Jaguar designed the Jag V8 - not FORD (Ford DID provide much needed funding at the time): "The Jaguar company introduced the new AJ26 V8 engine in 1996. It has been developed and updated since, and appears in the S-Type and later vehicles from Jaguar. This V8 was used in some of Ford's Premier Automotive Group Jaguar and Land Rover brands.
XFRS - 550bhp. He hasn't said what engine is in this test car but it changed from AJ33 to AJ133 on about this year getting another 90-ish hp. It also ditched the 6HP26 and took the 8HP70 instead.
Yeah I know it is a little bit better, but my type of Jag has always been the big saloon one. But the XKR is indeed another masterpiece, no doubt about that! Cheers mate!
@19thaman79 Look, 510 hp is enough to compete with those two since this one is more comfortable. I just meant about the XKR and the XFR, I never think that a heaviercar should get the same engine as a lighter one, because then the lighter one will undoubtably out shine this car praformacewise. The XFR is the one I'd buy.
Boy do I love this guy or what!!.... :) he captures my intresst about what he is reviewing.....and he's got ability to NOT BULLSHIT!!!.... GREAT JOB MAN!!!
The hostility on here is incredible, especially from the Australians, though I hope its all, or mostly wind-ups. for the record, Jaguar maybe foreign owned, but so is Holden.
In terms of just looks alone this jag takes it, hands down (just my opinion) And from the reviews it seems to be a very good performance/Luxury car also Nice, Jag.
2 things: 1. The M5 and M6 share the same engine and chassis, the only difference is the M6 is slightly lighter and lower (thanks partly to the carbon roof) so there isn't a great deal of difference in performance. 2, Jag are asking just under 60K for this car. Which is about 5K less then the M5! I think its amazing value personally.
OMG! i'm not complaining but i cant believe he did a jump with that car. awesome review though, bur for the same money i think i'd have the M3 it's more of a driver focused car.
@bobrec3GTI The CTS V is 6.2litre @ 550(+)bhp and the Jag 4.2litre at 510bhp (thats full 2litres smaller than the CTS). The Jag is clearly delivering more punch for your bucks?
did you also read that the m5 is incredibly hard to keep in the power band. Which its always on the back foot in terms of everyday life such as overtaking. There two different cars IMHO.
You do have a problem, most of us can see that. You and I have both seen this Jaguar lose by a small margin to what some think is a lightly modified M5, the Jag was gaining ground up to about 150, which is better than I expected because like you I had seen the tests on these cars and if we believe them the BMW should have wiped the floor with the Jag, but it didn't. In the real world, Jags often out do the roadtest figures and it seems the XFR on the other video is just such a car.
Well, you have flappy paddles, meaning you can control when the car shifts. That's the same way you would shift on a Ferrari Enzo. What more could you want?
I think Jaguar did an excellent job with this car, Looks ...I think it looks ok...it looks better than the M5, not as good as the M6. Performance wise it might be on par with the M5, certainly not the M6. But I don't think they were going for that. For 80k this is a hell of a good saloon. and this is their first attempt. imagine what they will release in the next 2 years.
That's right, I don't understand why dilligafone can be so pround of Holden when most of their cars are in fact foriegn like holden Epica which is Daewoo. Astra which is essentially Opel. We all know why, GM fucks up all brand identities. when you are owned by GM, you're OWNED, a big time.
A performance saloon isn't just about numbers, 0-60 means nothing, its just a guide. The BMW has a harder edge than the Jag, does that make it better? I would say no, others would disagree. Jaguar and BMW have a different approach to a fast saloon, they are not the same car. This difference means BOTH cars will sell well, but to different people. Jag has done a fine job with limited resourses. Can we leave it at that, PLEASE? you too, Luke.
I would love an XFR, I only have a 3.0 litre XF - the new XF/XJ/F Type jags will go down as design classics in the next 20 years just as the E Type did.
That jump was insane lol!!!!
I drive one of these every day through the summer and u never stop loving it.
I have brought a Jaguar XF R Sports 2.2i Diesel 2015 and it is being delivered tomorrow I can’t wait 😊 I am so excited to own one and can’t wait to drive it to work thank you Jaguar 🐆👏👏👏👏👏👍🏻
How does it go if you still have it ?
"whats it limited by? If you don't stick to 155 I shall jolly well wright to the daily telegraph about it." Jeremy Clarkson
I hope they spell check it...
😆😆😆😆🙈
Finally Jaguar has managed to come up with a brilliant car, classy, powerful, technologically innovative and what road presence!!!!
Luke, we know a great car when we see one, he doesn't. It's good that you defend Jaguar so well, good man.
Front heavy for that jump! I think you did some damage underneath. Did you get in trouble for that not-so-good idea? Why would you even try that on such a nice car?
What a comeback for Jaguar, very impressive!!
Having worked as a driver in London, this car has one of the best soundtracks of any car on the road, except maybe a 430 or a gallardo.
...the thing is, this car is on the old DW98 Ford platform that the S-Type was launched on! Yeah, it's had a few mods along the way; different subframes and the like but it does have its ancestry back there.

I LOVE THIS CAR! I have a sovereign, and I love Jaguar so much!
nice jump, looks just like a jaguar. This car lives up to it's name.
nice jump.. its a beast.. i think the front bumper got tapped if i look at the sides at the wheels popping out when it hits the ground.... but overall very nice
One of top cars in history and still comming to be even better!
Thats a good thing, the S-type drove very well despite the grandfather clock looks. My current XF-S drives nothing like the old S-Type. It's sublime
@AnAngryPossom Thats a popular misconception. Jaguar designed the Jag V8 - not FORD (Ford DID provide much needed funding at the time): "The Jaguar company introduced the new AJ26 V8 engine in 1996. He really pushed the XFR to it's potential.
The jump at the end, awesome.
XFRS - 550bhp.
He hasn't said what engine is in this test car but it changed from AJ33 to AJ133 on about this year getting another 90-ish hp. It also ditched the 6HP26 and took the 8HP70 instead.
If you pause at the right moments during the jump, you can see sparks under the car and the sides of the bumper pop out.
4:00 oh my fkin Gosh! Whatta a fakin jump was it? :D
Thats the sexiest jump iv seen a 4 door sedan ever do!! Very nice car this.
Awesome driving! This is also my favorite car!
@Scudeyyy
FYI, 2012 XFR-S is 550 hps
What a masterpiece that car is...
It's my new favourite Jag...period.
So, the US gets Top Gear before the UK? I haven't seen the XFR and M5 test yet as it hasn't been on yet.
@AnAngryPossom The V8 are built in Wales.
great video as usual but, could you guys please invest in some better quality cameras maybe
Yeah I know it is a little bit better, but my type of Jag has always been the big saloon one. But the XKR is indeed another masterpiece, no doubt about that!
Cheers mate!
Jaguar =the most credible car on the road total class
wow the XFR is a very impresive car.
i love the bodystyle of this jag
@Janusha - sorry, who won't do what for a while? I was talking about the widespread reports of problems with the XF's electrics...
That jump at 4:05 is badass! you need balls of steel to do that with a ditch over the other side
@19thaman79 Look, 510 hp is enough to compete with those two since this one is more comfortable. I just meant about the XKR and the XFR, I never think that a heaviercar should get the same engine as a lighter one, because then the lighter one will undoubtably out shine this car praformacewise. What a jump!
Boy do I love this guy or what!!.... :) he captures my intresst about what he is reviewing.....and he's got ability to NOT BULLSHIT!!!.... GREAT JOB MAN!!!
u guys are good at this... more videos plzzz
This car is quite simply the best supersaloon in the world.
This guy reminds me of William Shaftner...They both rock!!!! a kickass awesome review btw!!!
The hostility on here is incredible, especially from the Australians, though I hope its all, or mostly wind-ups. for the record, Jaguar maybe foreign owned, but so is Holden.
This is hilairious.
You're fighting a lost battle here! Have you ever driven a new Jag?
favorite 4 door saloon i think. I want to see a M5 vs XF R race
In terms of just looks alone this jag takes it, hands down (just my opinion)
And from the reviews it seems to be a very good performance/Luxury car also
Nice, Jag.
i drove the standard XF. that thing was sexy and smooth
Pause at 4:06
The word "classy" has a new meaning.
when im in the resturant having dinner sometimes i have this image of the valet doing that w/ my car
This guy is good behind the wheel. This is a super cat
from the badge itself, the Jag wants to jump and indeed it jumped like a Jag on it's badge!
This car's performance is impressive.
Some beast .... and a nice jump as well !!
Steve is a good driver
@Janusha - me too. Mind you, the tales of XF electrical woe are worrying...
Ohhh I just love my Jaguar XFR so so much.....don't feel like driving my BMW anymore when I have to choose between the 2 to get to work
2 things: 1.
Damn, that was some sweet jump. Hopefully he didn't do any damage to the car there. But wow, was that a jump.
OMG! i'm not complaining but i cant believe he did a jump with that car. awesome review though, bur for the same money i think i'd have the M3 it's more of a driver focused car.
The Jump Test is so funny
The Jump, is that the same as they shooted in James Bond: Casino Royale? It sure looked like it!
@george385 i have no doubt i will like the car, but will it continue to be reliable to me is my worried.
I want this car!!!
@trilingualkid I've had three Jags over a period of 20 years and none of them have EVER let me down? Which model did you own that let you down?
Look very similar to a standard XF... needs a bit of a body kit.. surprised it jumped like that..
@mmtiger31 XFR is the supercharged XF
@bobrec3GTI The CTS V is 6.2litre @ 550(+)bhp and the Jag 4.2litre at 510bhp (thats full 2litres smaller than the CTS). The Jag is clearly delivering more punch for your bucks?
The jag is a 5 litre, not 4.2 !!
did you also read that the m5 is incredibly hard to keep in the power band. Which its always on the back foot in terms of everyday life such as overtaking.
There two different cars IMHO.
The fuel tank's too small and it needs a rear wash-wipe. Apart from that, I completely agree, although I'd be reluctant to "jump" mine!
wow that guy does very good videos
That jump is sick :D
awesome jump! thanks for posting!
awesome...the same engine that is in the range rover vogue 2010.
This is a good show WATCH OUT TOP GEAR. These cats have the resouces (TRACKS) too take the cars to the limit. nice

@19thaman79
whats the point of that, they have the CTSV
it look like he dented the front spolier on that landing... lovely car 5****!
I would love to spend a day on that track and just do crazy jumps.
totally agree, if i had the money for it id definetly buy this car. for shure.
Thats a real road test.
i would have never been that close to the wall, jesus.
is this 5.0 liters supercharged with 510 or 470 hp !?
Well, you have flappy paddles, meaning you can control when the car shifts. That's the same way you would shift on a Ferrari Enzo. What more could you want?
Front spoiler destroyed?
what a review enjoyed it
I would rather have the Jaguar, it just looks so much nicer than the M5
Good observation!
where did he get ton and 3/4 from ? this car is 1890kg
i love the jag
when the new m5 comes out later this year
this xfr, the cts-v, the e63 and even the rs6 just wont matter.
love the jump :D
Skip to 4:02 and keep your eyes closed. Just do it..
I think Jaguar did an excellent job with this car, Looks ...I think it looks ok...it looks better than the M5, not as good as the M6. when you are owned by GM, you're OWNED, a big time.
what a great job!
this dude can drive
Nice review
Holy crap, that's one hot, sick ass jag man. that 5.0 will move and it got a sick ass purr to it. Kinda sounds like a... jaguar? haha.
A performance saloon isn't just about numbers, 0-60 means nothing, its just a guide. The BMW has a harder edge than the Jag, does that make it better? I would say no, others would disagree.
