Had one, gave it to a family member as a gift. 0 engine and corrosion trouble for 12 years! Two issues: wire got loose in the steering column that stopped the ignition from working and a window fell of its track. For 12 years I’d say it’s a pretty good deal.
You know what buddy im so glad you went over how important it is to make sure to lock both the camshaft and the flywheel when changing the timing belt! Im currently in the process of re timing the C2 1.1 2006 and upon locking the camshaft I was not able to lock the flywheel so I just made a mark and went off this put everything back on and now the engine is running rough and a slight tapping noise so clearly the crankshaft is not lined up correctly. Thanks for the video I will be making sure to lock both up to know 100% the job is spot on.
18 years is pretty good that's about 4000 miles every year. I think they can last as long as you keep engine misfires low and reduce cold starts by at least changing the spark plugs❤. Recommended to change the belt at 10 years, maybe they can keep on going for many years more as long as spark plugs have been changed. But I have heard some spark plugs are better at cold starts: DENSO K20TT NICKEL TT though mine is 2012 1.4i
Just fitted an INA timing kit on my missus 2.0 hdi engine yesterday, similar crank locking hole and procedure and a plastic impellor I don't mind using the plastic ones if it's from a reputable company. Keep safe in all this madness Dave and keep up the good work!
Thanks my friend for the informativ tutorial. I have a question, i changed my waterpump like you describe everything, and to be exactly proof i marked the timing belt; I aligned the spanner pointer in between the position marking. Now my question: When i rotate the spinning wheel 4 rounds and set the ot points everything is alright like it has to be (spannerpointing is same). When i rotate the spinning wheel 2 rounds the spannerpointing is a bit more tensioned.. Is it normal? Or do i have a fail setting?? Can you please help me ?
Nice work there Dave, I've made the same flywheel holder tool for the Mini Cooper S but that's a lot easier to get too than what you where working on... 😂😂😂
I cant guarantee this is true and have never tried it myself but I did hear that if you pour a little water on it to see if the water stays on the surface or if it seeps into it. Again I don't know if that's true or what but sort of sounds logical.
Thanx for takin the time Dave. I know filming all the details sure as hell doesn't speed things up. That tip you gave @ 8:26....experience or mentor? Cause I don't think you got that from in a book!

ian, i missed this comment until now (23rd June). Watched that vid of the guy sailing solo, yeah carrick marina is popular together with the 11th century castle and sights. Carrick was the original port until the shipbuilding at Belfast took over. Largest dry dock in the world at one point, famous for the Titanic. We say 'it was alright when it left here'. Belfast Lough originally Carrickfergus Bay. Thanks for posting, Dave
Be warned the top larger bolt holding on the water can and did wring off on me Thankfully water pump is a separate housing, but time increases greatly. Mine was an older car

Just done mine citreon c3 mk1 1.4 2005. Was on the original timing belt. It had only done 48000 miles. In 18 years.

It reminds me of my old 206, I used a L shaped Allen key in the crank. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah matt same idea. I think most people just paint mark everything on these but easy enough to lock
Nice instructions how to do it love the Irish accent 👍
A great 'step by step' disassembly and reassembly video. Helped me decide whether to tackle the same job or not....I chose not to! Thanks so much....
Hi my timing belt slipped which knocked my timing out
So which would I pin first would it be the flywheel or the camshaft shaft pulley
The belt is not a automatic tension right? manuel

cheers Johnny, aye easy enough
Great video thanks, it is very very helpful.
What's the easiest way to check if the belt was changed? Thanks

Plastic impeller for me Dave (for the same reasons as you describe) I do mostly VAG stuff and always try to use genuine pumps where possible.
cheers Russell, its good to get a consensus on this one
How do you line the camshaft and crankshaft gears if you don't have any markers? My Tu3a engine is misfiring
With pins as shown
@@davesterl it still misfires, i changed the headgasket
@@Phae576 it misfires even after changing the head gasket?
Thanks for this video

No mentor here ian, college of life and all that. I showed this before when tightening a pressure plate. Same idea. Cheers dave

Dave I'm a bit off topic on this one but when or have you done a timing chain replacement on a VW 1.4tsi engine?
Can't rem a 1.4 but defo a few 1.0 and 1.2 on the polos. Much the same only with a vvt on inlet
@@davesterl I think the 2009 1.4tsi was the vvti pulley as well.
Ottimo lavoro
Molto chiaro

Nice one mate, is a good video.
that gates belt would have done another 20 thousand... 💯👍
Would you recommend the c3? Looking to buy my first car, and I've been told to stay away from Citroen
They're ok, dont own one myself, i only work on other people's cars
cylinderhead gasket probelms is very usual with these
@regis bognor Is it not a Citroën C3? Watch at the start of the video were it says on the back.
@regis bognor no worries

Good wee video m8 thanks 4maken was scratchn head were was crankshaft lockn pin hole was good job
Didnt shov anything sudenly the belt vas on nothing about tension or marking
No marking with cam/crank locked. i explain the tensioning. This is a basic procedure as timing belts go, sorry if you don't understand
The most importent part is not on video ☹️
Just buy c3 2004 year very important too change belt I bought second hand car
Too much complicate! italian motor best!
Your teaching is very poor only the top timing crankshaft you didn't show it the position
I am not a teacher. If you don't like it then go and watch something else.
Intro is annoying
So despite the information shared in this video, all you can say is that.
Hard to understand with your accent.
Do you want me to change my accent for you
@@davesterl Would be preferable
