    Hi Harli, the design looks amazing. What I'd have done differently is putting a fine mesh net to contain the soil on the side then cover it with the pebbles. That would add stability to your design and prevent a bit the soil spillage :)

    I heard a hack somewhere to to drain water from containers that don’t have drainage!
    I had a few clear vases that I use to grow plants in and when I overwater,I put in a tampon in and it absorbs the excess water,sometimes I would use a few,just bought really cheap tampons for my terrariums! It does work,believe me! 😂😂

    Oh god, I hope it's not too late to tell you this lol.
    Pinguicula pirouette is NOT a bog plant! They like foliar moisture as long as it dries quickly, that's how I water mine. Several times, I have tried to grow one in a terrarium, and it just melts in a few weeks. My mature mother plant does amazing in a simple round fish bowl, without any cover, with limestone and vermiculite, where the leaves and tiny roots can remain dry.
    This species also gets HUGE! Mine is about 6 inches around (after a year!), and has divided several times after flowering over the Winter.
    They seem to totally transform into light green, and my seller swears it's a matter of brighter light, so you really have to experiment there.
    There's almost no information about the specific care for this "complex" hybrid, but the parent plants come from Southern and South Eastern Mexico, if that helps you.

    • @AT-iu3ye
      @AT-iu3ye Рік тому

      yeah, I agree, I was more worried about when they go dormant and how that will do with the sundews that love water. I don't want her to kill them since they are so beautiful and expensive

    • @TyrantII
      @TyrantII Рік тому

      I've found that they seem to thrive on pumice, even when dormant. Can always pull back watering when necessary.
      Worse case, might need to move up the ones in the lower soil to the rocks and go with a few more Sundews/Utricularia where it's more boggy. Sphagnum moss would also be an eye catcher.

    • @Christian.Laurent
      @Christian.Laurent Рік тому

      @@TyrantII "Thirsty succulent" comes to mind, for P. pirouette. They seem to come from an environment that has alternating humid and dry conditions, like a rocky desert or high mountains.
      I'm keeping some babies in much brighter but dryer conditions than the mother plant, which seems to dramatically affect the size because the babies remain tiny and compact after months.

    I learned how to propagate and care for a few of my plants from your videos. Thank for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm for plants!These plants are so pretty and bring a natural plant landscape into your home which is totally cool.
    I live in an apartment complex and have a very small patio. This year I’m going to put some plants, flowers, and possibly some vegetable containers. I guess a micro version of what I hope to have if I can have my own home one day. (Scratch that last part. WHEN I get my own home)😊Directly near my patio is a downspout tube VERY close to the ground and I wouldn’t be able to use even a small bucket but I’m certainly going to brainstorm a way to try and collect the water for my plants. I’m glad that you mentioned that because I was thinking, “Oh my! What have I been doing?! Giving my plants tap water!”😮
    Well, I guess that’s why we’re all here. To teach, create, learn, and GROW.
    Sincerely, Stefanie

    Absolutely love carnivorous plants! You are going to have fun with those! The Pinguicula Kondoi has the smallest cutest flower! Don’t worry about keeping the water clean, most carnivorous plants live in boggy conditions, others live on rocks or hillsides. I think just having it clean is more for our aesthetics but they will be just fine. I have a pretty extensive ping collection, I’m hooked.

    Successfully recreated a bog from the Isle of Arran last year and I have Scottish sphagnum moss in my jar terrarium with peat, and even gave it for the drainage layer a volcanic rock mix (lava rock+ granite) and a terrarium mesh to make sure the pear and moss doesn't go into the drainage layer, the carnivorous plants I added was Drosera rotundifilia and Drosera anglica I grew from seeds.
    Edit: Its thriving and doesn't need any thing apart from sunlight.

    Really cool project I look forward to updates! I thought of getting some carnivorous plants for pest control too, my biggest worry is that it's not that warm and humid where I live and I think they would likely die in the winter. You definitely make it look a lot more fun that what I had in mind personally ^^ Almost like building a terrarium. I have this long term dream of building a fully sealed vivarium/aquarium/terrarium that develops its own ecosystem society over the years along with own climate. Should definitely add carnivorous plants in it, along with some frogs ^^ Should keep all the pests population down while keeping the plants and frogs fed :3

    • @metasamsara
      @metasamsara Рік тому

      Also I think you might want to use sphagnum moss inside the soil for a similar project it will hold more moisture than pure coco, it will acidify the roots which I believe orchids and carnivorous plants enjoy, and it will help hold it in shape too. Might want to also add a little bit of cobalt sand and azomite to feed all the mineral micronutrients these rare plants thrive on.

    • @SuperUsername147
      @SuperUsername147 Рік тому

      Just letting you know that regardless of the climate, carnivorous plants need a rest period in the winter. It’s essential for their health. The whole plant will die off except for the roots from what I understand. I don’t own any but I’ve heard a lot of advice from avid growers and keep hearing these things over and over:
      -No nutrients in the soil.
      -Rain water or distilled water only (minerals will harm them)
      -they need to rest in the winter.
