    I thoroughly enjoyed this episode of your epic Madigan crossing. By relaying the tragic story of the family from Annandale Station you have highlighted the hardships faced by all those who chose to live and work in remote areas. I admire them all and they deserve to be remembered along with all the early explorers who ventured out into what to them, was uncharted lands.
    How well I remember my own re-enactment of Madigan’s crossing back in 1979 to mark the 40th anniversary of his journey. No tracks, compass only and a faithful little LJ80 Suzuki 4X4. It was seven days of absolute joy that for me, always comes with total isolation and absence of any sign of man’s intrusion into the landscape.
    Your drone footage brings another dimension highlighting the enormity of this special area while vision of the magnificent red sand of the northern Simpson Desert is breathtaking - something unavailable from ground level. Great filming by the way!
    Well done Stefan. Once again you make me want to go back to relive my past desert exploits of so long ago. Pity about the flies! Acceptance is the only option …. otherwise you will slowly go mad!
    Cheers and best wishes, Denis Bartell

    Just love your Video Productions Stefan. TV quality Everytime.
    We crossed the Simpson East-West to the Finke Desert Race (with hundreds of others) this year.
    Very easy drive, no challenge, but a nice time and fun camping.
    No vehicle issues

    Crossed solo West to East in July via the WAA line taking in the Lone Gum & The Knolls. The solar powered flies were definitely still present but not in the numbers you guys had. Presumably the cold early mornings, down to -4°C, got rid of several billion of them leaving only a few hundred thousand of them per square metre rather than the millions you experienced. Stunning blue skies, beautiful red dunes & a zillion stars putting on the greatest light show in the entire universe every single night. Truly beautiful!!
    Marred only by some totally irresponsible & disrespectful trailer guys who I witnessed 2 separate groups get stuck, dig the maxtrax in, recover, dig the maxtrax back out & simply drove off leaving holes like they were digging a defensive position in the dune. They had shovels in their hands & didn't fill the holes they'd dug back in & I actually stopped on both occasions to fill them back in as they were ridiculous, right at the top of dunes where you need traction. That, for anyone reading & fuming because they tow responsibly, is why people towing trailers get a bad rep in the desert.

      Yes that's how I know it was my first early in the year trip and flies were plentiful. Knolls is interesting in the middle of Desert still have to see lone gum

    Great work Stefan! Nice to get an insight of the pioneers that crossed the desert. It's not all about beers and wheeling 😉

    Another great installment thanks Stefan. Do you use your back seats ever? So much better having them out. Saves so much weight; and can flat pack the trestle table; camp chairs and swags in the back. Space isn't at such a premium in your beast compared to my disco

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  6 років тому

      actually, it's the first trip I took them out, I usually don't mind them as it separates foot space from rest and I have my stretcher, camera gear etc on top of the seat.

      @@AlloffroadAu the ones in my disco must weigh at least 30+kg which is a decent amount. I love the 105 series; if I ever replace the disco that will be it. Have you done any chassis strengthening? What about other running gear replacement

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  6 років тому +1

      yes my double seats are around 60KG, chassis is fine I have a few brackets strengthened though. I have upgraded Axles and splined hubs but only because I have a 4.2 T GVM upgrade. Love the Cruiser full walk through video will be coming soon
