my main problem with flipaclip is the good features are either behind a paywall or require an ad to access these features, for example, transparent background, 4+ layers, importing audio, preinstalled audio, etc etc. but its still a really good app for animation might i say the best for any beginner.
As someone who uses Rough Animator, I feel like I need to extol on the virtues of this app more, since a lot of the screen time was dedicated to Flipaclip over RA, at least imo. The most important one to me is the brush customization. You're able to change the brush shape and import pngs to use as a new brush shape, and you can do the same with the eraser shape. But even with the default brush shapes, and by messing around with the settings, I was able to make a rough pencil for sketching, smooth ink pens for lining (with and without pen pressure for technical inking), and even a soft airbrush. Camera movements allow for zooming in/out, panning, and rotating with keyframes. The use of X and Y sliders for translating the camera frame make it easy to pan the camera without dragging the canvas by hand and *hoping* your hand was steady enough to keep the frame horizontal. There's also the cycle function. I don't really use it, but it cycles a set of frames over and over again, which makes stuff like walk cycles a breeze. And finally there's Edit Multiple, which is awesome. This allows you to draw, translate/scale/rotate/flip, fill and erase multiple frames at once. It's a massive time saver and allows for some interesting animating effects depending on how you use it.
Yea that's why i feel rough animator is better than flipaclip.I have done some animations with it and its really helpful for me to do some minor animations and some features help me to finish animations soo quick
@anura there is no clipping mask feature, but there is something similar to alpha lock. If you want to color inside marks you've already made on a layer, go to your brush settings, and there should be a drop down menu that has the options "Draws in front", "Draws behind", and "Draws inside." Select "Draws inside," and now your brush can color inside marks on any given layer like the layer is in alpha lock On that note, take advantage of what you can do using all 3 options!
@@egobang0716 oh wow this is great!! i’m considering getting the app since with flipaclip the fact that it has no alpha lock or selection option puts me off doing animation a lot lol. is there any other things i should know about rough animator before buying?
@anura sure, I got some tips for ya lol the Fill bucket has the same fill in front, behind and inside options as the brush tool You can hide the Tool Options menu and Timeline and adjust how big the canvas window is at any given time, and in the settings you can scale the interface up and down to fit your screen better, which is useful for mobile and tablet screens. I have the interface on my tablet scaled to 80%. You can adjust the onion skin range to show up to 4 frames behind and ahead, and adjust it asymmetrically however you like (eg.: showing 1 frame behind & 4 frames ahead, 0 frames behind & 1 frame ahead, etc). You can also change the color of the before and after frames to red, green or blue in the settings. Best tip! You can export your project into PNG image sequences! I've seen people export their frames into PNG files, edit them in Procreate or another art program, and import them back into Rough Animator to finish up the video. I do this myself with Clip Studio. There's even an option in the Exporting menu to export the PNG's with transparent backgrounds!
Also, I really like flipaclip's marketing strategy, it's great that they conduct flipaclip contests with huge prizes for their users. 🔴But my favorite is roughanimator.
Personally I use both Flipaclip and rough animator. Flipaclip on the phone for animation outlines and rough animator on the PC for line art, clean up and everything else. Overall I prefer rough animator because it has more features and lags/crashes less on me than flipaclip does although I do hate the mobile layout. However flipaclip is easier for timing and it's phone friendly layout makes it handy for use nearly anywhere.
I've been a user of flipaclip since 2016. I dabble with rough animator but I always stick to flipaclip. The application has developers who have their fans in mind, always reaching out and interacting with us by either commenting on our videos, or creating fun events for all of its users to come together and participate on. Rough animator does have things like pin stabilizer and Camera movement, but the interface for flipaclip is friendly for everybody even beginners. Anybody who's had a dream of animating can jump into it, and create something. I think it's pretty clear which one I prefer. 😆
I understand where your coming from for I am also a full time Flipaclip user while I make my backgrounds on Ibis Paint X I think rough Animator takes the edge with multiple pens and off course because of the camera option which is absolutely helpful instead of always having to move the background for every frame I'd say it's a tie if Flip ever gets updated for a camera movement option.
5:17 they have air brush now but I need auto smoothening the lines when using ruler and circle ruler and when resize the line or a object must have auto resolution or not be blured
I've used flipaclip for awhile now and the things that i dont like is the frames viewer, frames options, and water mark. The options in frames viewer is to simplistic for my taste. Also the copy, cut and paste options look too similiar to each other that i sometimes forget which one's which in the middle of animating. Also lets not forget that ugly watermark that comes with every free version of the app that looks even worse than kinemaster's.
It's free software but the production team have to eat. If you want to be rid of the watermark - pay for the App. It's only $4.99 for a one time purchase which compared to $27 a month for Toon Boom seems entirely reasonable. I don't work for Toon Boom but I respect that people who write software want to be paid for their hard work.
ive always used flipaclip but after finding out about rough animator... im never going back you can draw outside the canvas, which helps ALOT with background scrolling and half-off-screen characters also it just seems more professional
And so much better to become a payment subscription💀 ngl, I used to love this app when it one-time payment now it's a lifetime payment. I switch to Rough Animator because it is more professional.
2years later, flipaclip now has blending modes, clipping, alpha lock, glow, blur and smudge tools and magic cut....and yet all rough animator gets is a dark theme mode . You'd think flipaclip should be winning by now, yet they still dont have camera movement, 4k resolution, seperate timelines and custom brushes. Rough Animator is still the superior app for professionals. I only wish it had blending modes
As both an old flipaclip veteran (started since 2017) and now using rough animator, I'd say flipaclip is best for beginner animators out there who wanted to start animate quickly and simply without the complications of advance animation tools. while rough animator, in my recent prior experience just now, is perfect for professional animators who need an alternative if they cant get adobe animate or other programs at some point, or the only platforms they had is phone, or tablet.

the problem with flipaclips brushes is that you can't even create your own brushes, like in Krita it's good, very good, in ibis paint also good, very good, but in flipaclip you have few brushes if we don't have premium!
Honestly, flipaclip kinda sucks, the features are very lacking, it's only good because it's free and because there aren't many other things. I feel like the devs for flipaclip are lazy since they could've easily added more features like smoothing and stuff, which is pretty essential for people who don't have hands like a surgeon and years of drawing practice, especially since if the lines aren't smooth enough it ruins the whole thing. And instead of a line tool, they only added a ruler, which takes way too long to use often.
