      ...a different time when blood, boobs and gore still got you a PG rating. Yeah right, now you can't.... and look what's happened to the world!!! I grew up on blood, boobs (at times literally) and gore and I'm a well rounded crazy person for it! :D
      .... a -different- better time! I know we're nostalgically biased; but even subjectively you could say so.
      The original Poltergeist was a PG as well... yet Gremlins was a 15!?!
      I did see this as a kid, but I got my Sword and Sorcery fix* from Deathstalker on VHS (still have); which my mother let me buy at a market when I was 7/8; a different time!?. * or the Jackson/Livingstone CYOA books!
      A couple of Christmas', at my mother's health club, they got member Pat Roach to be Santa. I'm glad, and kind of sad, that when I sat on his knee he never pulled Santa's red hood back but had the Thoth Amon wizard monster mask on from Conan the Destroyer! He was in loads of my favourite child/current films; Willow _ General Kale, 1st two Indianna Jones films - propellered nazi and stone-rolled slave driver, a king in Red Sonja, celt chief in Prince of Thieves. He was almost Darth Vader. Would love to have talked to him about the films and people he worked with (connery Bond killed him) as an adult!: (
      RiP my friend!

  • @soulknife20
    @soulknife20 2 роки тому +26

    There's a whole bunch of cool trivia about this movie. The producer, the legendary Dino de Laurintis wanted Coscarelli to direct Conan the Destroyer. Coscarelli turned it down because he thought the script was bad. Coscarelli wanted Klaus Kinski for the role of Maax but couldn't reach an agreement, so Rip Torn. According to Coscarelli, the original film negatives are lost. They stored them in a private house that was sold and have no clue where they negatives went.

    A side-note: I've heard that Black Tigers do exist, but they don't look quite like the one in this movie. I saw a picture of what an actual black tiger looks like, and if my notoriously poor memory isn't screwing me over here, they basically look like a regular tiger but their stripes the lighter in color and the rest is black, at least most black tigers look like that or otherwise have a different striped pattern that is more black than anything else.

    When you’ve starred in Beastmaster and V… that’s when you’ve made it in Hollywood.

    I remember buying this on VHS in the 90's, didn't realise there are three films? Just Googled it and other classic films came up, Krull, Willow and Conan!

    With that many ferrets, that must have been a stinky set.
    I love ferrets and weasels, but their musk is pretty goddamn overpowering.

    Y'know, the "paint" used to make the tiger black was actually toxic... the tiger died because of it. Ah, such concern for animal actors back in the day.

    I grew up just a few blocks from where a girl was kidnapped and never seen again and yet, the bird people from this movie were the scariest thing in my childhood.

    Rip Torn's look was all his idea - "... Rip Torn appears, and Pepperman asks Coscarelli to describe their early meetings with him. “He came to the film with his own peculiar ideas about how the character was going to be played,” says the director. “He came to me and said ‘I want to play this role like a turkey vulture.’” Torn decided on his own to wear a prosthetic nose."

    I watched this many times as kid before I realized that according to the story, Dar and Tanya Roberts must be cousins. That was a weird realization.

    The beastmaster such a 80s classic movie Marc singer was excellent in this film and the bad guys can be a little derpy but it's all good I like the look of those bad guys who we're behind the door when creature with the glowing green eyes came up on them it was hilarious
