Train Simulator - Route Learning: Bristol Temple Meads to Exmouth (Class 158) // 1440p

- In this episode of the route learning series, we take a journey along the freeware Berks & Hants to Bristol & Penzance route. Set in the days of First Great Western, we follow the timetable of train 2F05, the 05:25 service from Bristol Temple Meads to Exmouth. This is a rare timetabled journey, as there is only one train per day in each direction which does this full through run from Bristol to Exmouth. Stops along the way include Weston-super-Mare, Highbridge & Burnham, Bridgewater, Taunton, Exeter St Davids, Exeter Central, St James Park, Polsloe Bridge, Digby & Sowton, Newcourt, Topsham, Exton, Lympstone Commando, Lympstone Village, and Exmouth.
You can download the route that I used in this video from the Alan Thomson Simulation website here:

I literally signalled 2F05 through Puxton the morning this was published!
That's really cool! I'm just counting down the days (or rather months) until I start my signaller training. I've been offered a grade 3 job at Upper Holloway signal box on the Gospel Oak to Barking line :)
@@PTGRail You'll work with slowish Overground trains!
Is it a coincidence that 158958 (the unit you drive in this video) is operating the evening run of this service today?
it is a coincidence as I didn’t even realise haha
Already i really like the new logo fof channel
same
Thanks! I thought it was about time this channel finally got a proper logo :)
@@PTGRail new banner coming soon also?
I forget which one it is, but one of the Dovetail Simulators has an appalling 158 as standard. Even coders for BVE ten years ago came up with something better.
I thought we lost you 😅 but good to still have you and great vid!
There is a town called Western Supermarket?
The rain storms and heavy weather from the Armstrong pack really degrade these Learning Videos. You may like the change-up and challenge, but on-screen on UA-cam, it totally destroys the video as we, the viewer, cannot see any of the scenery or signals which are perhaps visible to you on a much higher grade video card and a better monitor than we have.
Glad you are back, was thinking I need to have a crack at making a PTG Rail styled video for fun xD
When you come back then?
That would be interesting to see! After all, you're a real driver now so you should be better than me.. ;)
QWERTY we need you back as well don’t get it twisted 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@PTGRail but I have never scripted anything... ever. Should be an absolute laugh xD
Very nice video PTG Rail. I find it unusual that the stops on the journey don’t include: Bedminster, Parson Street, Nailsea And Backwell, Yatton, Worle, Weston Milton and Tiverton Parkway.
I was surprised to see as well, I think the return journey in the evening does stop at those stations
I was surprised too!
Noah, I just checked that out - it seems the evening service is now temporarily extended to Cardiff. The evening run has more stops between Exeter and Bristol, but still skips out on Tiverton Parkway, Weston Milton, Parson Street, and Bedminster.
This channel is just about the right place.
There's also a Barnstaple to Axminster GWR service 1tpd (Mon-Fri only) and also the return journey Exmouth to Cardiff Central.
Lympstone Village isn't a request stop.
Noticed that the carriage numbers are not correct.
In reality, it would go: 57776, 52776, 57746 (57776 & 52776 being coaches from Ex 158776 & 57746 being a coach from Ex 158746)
Great video!
So nice to see you’re uploading again. Virtual Railroads have some pretty decent traction and routes available for Germany so they’re worth a try. The newer products like the Br111 and n-wagen train sets are almost up to AP standards
I do like Virtual Railroads products! Would definitely like to make some more German videos :)
@@PTGRail 232 please!! THRAASH
ooo new logo insted of the 455 from 2015
I got the help of a friend to design the logo - I knew how I wanted it to look, but didn't know how to actually make it! :)
Would you ever release your custom made scenarios on something like Alan thomson Sim for us to recreate your drive?
It's something I will consider, for sure. I used to do some on Steam Workshop for this purpose which are still available :)
Whose model of the class 158 is that? I've got the one downloaded via my Steam account but it doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" of this model. Does it have some enhancement pack applied, or is it a different model entirely?
This model utilises the Armstrong Powerhouse Class 158 enhancement pack :)
Hi PTG, where did you get the AP track patch for the route please?
I just used the normal AP track patch I believe. You can get one for JT routes from Alan Thomson Simulation, but this route just uses the normal track so I think the standard track patch applies :)
I love the new logo for the channel
Thanks! :)
You're right about the stopping point at Highbridge, much closer to the Bristol end of the platform and hence the entrance/exit from the car park.
Keep up the good work. 👍
Nice to see my local line, the Bristol to Taunton part, shown I enjoyed the video
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! :)
The 158 is perfect for this service.
Can you do a route from Plymouth to somewhere on a class 800
in all your recent videos - this is the first video in like a year
I've made 5 others in the past couple of weeks :)
@cliff Woodbury either ur not subscribed or ur not getting notifications
56:19 what is that beeping noise and what do you do when it comes?
That’s the DSD or driver safety device. It’s to make sure the driver is awake and alive. It goes off if the throttle and brakes haven’t been touched for a certain amount of time. In the game, press E and it resets it. In real life it’s a foot pedal - the driver keeps their foot on the pedal, and when the beep goes off, they lift their foot and put it back down again to reset it. If it’s not reset within a few seconds, the train will make an emergency brake application.
@@PTGRail ah, cool, thanks!
isnt that called the dead man switch??
@@CadenWASD it sort of is. The difference being that a dead man’s switch is just checking that something is present, whereas the DSD checks if the driver is actually functioning.
How do I install this to my Rail works Directory I don’t know how to open it?
Would be awesome if you made a other class 142 pacer video or a class 390 there my favourite trains
Always enjoy your videos. Informative and very well planned.
If you want a recommendation for a route from another part of the world that's a bit different, you might like to try the Midland route across the Southern Alps in New Zealand.
I'm interested in looking at this route in the future :)
Most enjoyable.
Great video as ever, glad to see you creating content, especially for my local route!
Quick note if it’s not been mentioned. You’ll never get a single yellow aspect at EXD when routed up the bank to EXC due to the steep gradient 👍
That makes sense - I'm sure some trains would really struggle to start moving on such a steep gradient! And thanks for the comment :)
Loving the new channel icon mate!!
Another amazing video Mr Woo !
Ooh, the BHBP.
Is this Cornwall? Nice ride! Again a very nice video.
Close! This route goes from Bristol (which is its own county), through Somerset to Devon. It doesn't quite go as far west as Cornwall.
@@PTGRail Bristol > North Somerset > Somerset > Devon
nice
This sim is rubbish, it *never* rains like that in that part of Exeter! :P Polsloe Bridge is my local station, and it so happens that the crossover at Exmouth Junction giving access to the branch has been upgraded to allow 40mph.
Great videos. I notice though you don’t sound your horn when you pass a W sign on this video, did you just forget?
Explained later in the video 😂
I mean I do often forget, but yes it was a time of day thing 😅
