Ducati Desert X Off Road Test Ride and First Impressions

- The Ducati Desert X is a bike I've wanted to get my hands on since the day I attended the DesertX launch event at MotoCorsa in Portland last year. This mid-size adventure motorcycle features a gorgeous design, but it it actually capable? I had the good fortune to be able to get out and ride the Ducati Desert X off road at this year's Touratech Rally and I have to say I had an absolute blast riding the thing. My initial Ducati Desert X review is incredibly positive. Yes it is an expensive adventure bike, but it also has that uniquely Ducati panache. Chances are you already know if the Ducati DesertX is for you, and no DesertX review is going to change your mind one way or another, but just let me say that my experience taking this 2022 Ducati Desert X off road was overwhelmingly positive and I had an absolute blast ripping around the woods on this super impressive Ducati ADV bike.

Hi my name is Dean and i am going to Grizz Bait and i have a few questions what is the best way to contact you?
Love the retro colours on that bike!
"She wants to run, and she can. And she knows it. She wants you to know it."😂
Thank you Shaheem
agree totally why buy a sports bike, ive had both, sports bikes are fun but the trill wears of quickly with the discomfort plus unless you going over 100+miles the are fun, adventure bikes are more fun. more safe and comfortable, the only down side is the air filter, I wish ducati would have put more effort into the air filter,
Wow that was an amazingly descriptive impressions ride !! Great job !!
Thank you 😉
I love the OEM look of the Ducati Desert X. Not a fan of the graphics on this one. We all have different tastes and that's okay.
Dukes are nice, and v-twin power rocks, but I wouldn't trade my KLR for one of those AND (the superior) multi-strada.
Shahin Alvandiiiiiiiiii! #TeamAnne
It’s a beautiful bike
A dork on a Ducati.
DORKati
italian but vw audi germans owned
That thing is wicked just to much money and high maintenance I'm already married to one like that😅
Ducati listened to consumers literally a decade ago and has been building bikes with much, much, longer maintenance intervals. The thing to remember is that while Ducati has created lines like the scrambler and Monster models as entry into the brand, there still an enthusiast brand like pretty much everything coming out of Italy. The downside is now you have bikes with conventional spring drivetrains that no matter what you spend, never sound like a Ducati should. I know...because I own one.
Italians are artists, Germans are engineers.
Watching this as the owner of a 2019 Multi950S, chuckling at the 6k rpm shifts and the power comments. This motor starts pulling even harder from 6500-10000. Get another ride on that bike @dorkintheroad and do a 2nd and 3rd pull to redline on your favorite closed course.
If you’re at GOAF in Mojave next year, you can take a spin on my Multi 950.
one of the best sounding bikes you've ridden, you can really tell how this bikes makes you feel, good video!
It sounds incredible.
Apart from the valves, ducatis are dead simple to work on. I wouldn't get too carried away with the fancy shmancy. They tend to be pretty raw and visceral bikes - that's what makes them either special, or a loud PITA - depending on where you're coming from. Of course there are the garage queen guys...
Irony of a machine with "Desert" in the name, but you have to remove the gas tank to change the air filter!
I think a lot of people are missing the point on the whole filter deal. Its not a standard dirt bike filter. It has much more of an automotive style air box/rectangular, pleated filter. It could run a long time before plugging up and choking the engine.worrying about cleaning it for every other outing is rediciculous.
That sounds a LOT like my 990 Adventure Baja. She doesn't care that you're there, she just wants to bolt and run like her genes tell her to. Nice ride.
I do love the look of the Desert X!
It’s a really beautiful bike!! I’m not sure I could handle it.
Looks like a great bike. I’m having a hard time accepting Ducati as a dirt bike after years of riding with friends who had their sport bikes and damn those bike are awesome.
Those Ducati scramblers look like they could handle some shit. I’m fairly new to motorcycling so I don’t have the same biases lol
@@anthonypetro3212I’d love to take a desert sled on a ride.
@@anthonypetro3212 awesome!!!
Hi my name is Joe, I am an average rider.. I have owned 3 Ducatis; I did not know they were not for me, being an Average Joe. 😂
Great vid! 👍
I have the Desert X RR22 (Black) Your review is spot on. You Nailed it! "She wants to run" :~)
So is it a requirement that the dealership do all the maintenance on one of these? I'm the kind of guy that likes to do everything to my bikes with my own hands. I really don't like someone else messing with my stuff.
How do you like it compared to the Norden?
Dude isn't it nice to have so many options to chose for bikes these days? :)
I hope you are good palls with your mechanic if you get one of these. And pray he can get parts.
Last year I saw Ducatis in the shop for over 1 year waiting for parts (not that model).
Looks wise I would get one right away though!
Did you have more fun on this bike or the scrambler desert sled? Or is there simply so comparison
Does anyone know where to find that decal kit? Can’t find it anywhere.
It would have been interesting if you could have had your buddy explain the reason for the angle of the handlebars and the suspension. Cheers!
You'd better get as much of this as you can Now.
Love to see you test ride a 1290 Super Adventure R after riding the 1250 and desert X
Thank you Shahin, miss y'all!!!
Cool bike. I love the looks of the Desert X
Definitely torn between the Teneree and the DX, I know their both awesome but the DX is a lot cooler looking
Tenere all the way. I have one. Bomb proof, and the little details are correct, such as air filter maintenance- Tenere, 5 minutes to get to it, Desert X, at least an hour. Think about it, you’re out on a big trip, and your filter is clogged… and you know you have to get to it… rear axle nut requires 120nm to torque it up properly.. so you’ll need to devise an axle spanner that can crack it loose… timing belts, so you’ll need to do those as well! Tenere has 40,000 km interval for the valve check/adjustment… The CP2 engine will survive an apocalypse, lol. Another edge, the aftermarket. It’ll take at least three years for the Duke to catch up.
What exhaust did he install on the bike?
Lucky to get a test ride - well done! Jealous here. Great video - thank you
Dork needs a DDX!
Very nice I think it would look great with a high fender kit
Look at ya hammering out the content. My notifications are … Dork uploaded this, and this and this. Lol
How much editing can one fella do. Lol
I've got some editing help now so I can get out a bit more content
2022?
Funny, I'd listened to Jensen (past owner of Asphalt and Rubber website) and Shahin on the Brap Talk podcast before that came to a close. Interesting to see him there.
There may have been suspension work from the reviews I’ve seen the factory suspension is really soft like the T7. I bet that bike and the Aprilia are super fun right up until it needs to go to the dealer for service or breaks down on the trail!
Aprilia is one of the easiest bikes I have ever worked on. Good thing cause the closest dealer is like 6 hours away lol
My Tuareg is a beast, have only needed to get the first service done & ECU updates but it’s been a tank on the trails, no issues, cheaper maintenance than my Ducati’s I’ve owned. The parts I’ve broken are just thinning out the weak spots but mind you I bashed it pretty good before something broke (mirrors, hand guards etc) what OEM parts I’ve had to replace I received them within an week from AF1. It’s been a blast & I do like the weight and width compared to the DSX, Aprilia is underrated IMO, gets overshadowed by its larger Italian sister company. Wrenching on it has been simple & straightforward, want to eventually get a Tuono 660, even their sport bikes come stock with cruise control which is amazing considering the platform.
Awesome honest review as always 👍
Hail sir dork in the road. I am not sure if you had ridden the harley adv? If you have what do you feel about a match up of this bike and the harley vs the norden? All three see very similar to me. I personally own a klr 650. And am looking for a second bike the ducati desert x has been my first choice so far. But i am on the fence for the other two bikes. I want a usa bike tbh there is just not one that i think can compete tbh the harley is a cool looking bike but i have heard so alot of negative same with the norden. Thoughts?
Dork is like a beagle that has just jumped the fence: I’m FREEEEEEEEE!!!! Lol
It feels like calling the DX an "adventure bike" is almost a misnomer. Its more of a very large, very fast, ultra high performance dirt bike. 😃
I got my Tiger after having owned a speed triple.... I LOVED my street fighter, but don't regret having replaced it with an ADV.
I didn’t get an opportunity to ride the Desert X, but I did take out the Multistrada V4 rally. The power that one had was insane!! Lol
I have one as well. Agree, agree, agree! Can you or Shahin elaborate o his suspension setup? Stock dialed in for his needs and weight, or aftermarket? Cheers!
The cockpit seems more clean and open than my 890, maybe it's the camera angle but seems like you are "on" it ore than "in" it.
I have low bend bars on my KLX 230. It was a little different at first, but now I love it.
enduro mode has less power than Rally mode, already feel fast on the road? ;) Should try rally mode dude
I have to disagree I think a motorcycle connoisseur changes His own oil cleans his own air filter. Adjusts his own chain doesn't bring it to a dealership for that. I cannot respect people that bring their bikes to the dealership for those things. ergo I'll never buy a ducati.
I would say most Desert X owners do their own maintenance, outside of valves.
I wish Ducati would let you borrow one for a week to take on a BDR
John Wicks favorite brand
Thank you Shane 🙂 beautiful Moto
Glad to meet you at your talk during the rally! Hope to see you next year!
The DX isn't really that bad for maintenance DIY, maintenance schedules aren't all that heavy, but it would be a pain for somethings like a clogged air filter, to do it on the roadside.
You've ridden the GS, the DX, now ride a DE (Suzuki V-Strom 800DE).
You know the prices better, but I think a saddlebagged, skid-plated, crash barred GS is $20K+, a DX is about the same (with the doodads) and the DE adventure is about $13K+ (factory metal skid-plate, crash-bars and hard cases)
Neither DE/Adventure have cruise control. And clutch is cabled, not hydraulic.
Totally stupid air filter placement. It’s a tank off job, lol
I’m a Ducati person!
It's the difference between Germanness & Italianness boy, know you nought of art, history or culture...?
Did I get it wrong? I don't feel like I did.
Who puts an orange and yellow stripe, with a brown seat on a Ducati,, answer, an American🙄
Big Thanks to both of You👍👊🏼
love the vids man!
thank you Shahim
Shahin is the man!
Forza Ducati!!!!
That growl......
2022 Touratech rally?

These kind of rallies look like so much fun! I wish we had these around the midwest.
I rode my Tiger to the event.
From Minnesota. It was really fun.
@@killerx1307 I'm in Duluth, that'd be a helluva trek on my 300L.
@@bcarlson86 True, but where's you sense of adventure?😁
