I am Filipino but it is kind of annoying when most tourism materials just put "Bali" instead of the country "Indonesia" as a popular tourist destination in Asia. It gives many foreigners the idea that Bali is a country and Indonesia is a fictional place. 😑

Indonesian actually adopted 1/5 of its vocabulary from Dutch, words like kantor/kantoor (office), kulkas/koelkast (refrigerator), traktir/trakteer (treat), gratis/gratis (free), bengkel/winkel (car repair shop), permisi/permissie (excuse me), oma/oma (grandma), opa/opa (grandpa), om/oom (uncle), tante/tante (aunt), dah/daag (bye, taken from goed daag which means good day), apotik/apotheek (pharmacy), praktek/praktheek (apply), wortel/wortel (carrots), prestasi/prestatie (achievement), egois/egoist (selfish), arsitektur/architectuur (architecture), mobil/automobiel (car), insinyur/ingenieur (engineer), teknologi/technologie (technology), helm/helm (helmet), gubernur/gouvernour (governor), halo/halo (hi), brangkas/brandkast (safe), telat/te laat (late, in Dutch it means too late), kado/cadeau (present), plafon/plafoon (ceiling), korslet/korsluitting (short circuit), retsleting/ritsluitting (zipper) and many2 more. Also, some Indonesian cuisines like risol, semur (smoor in Dutch), klappertaart, perkedel (frikadel in Dutch), meises (muisjes in Dutch, meaning bread with sprinkles of chocolate) and pannenkoek were influenced by the Dutch. Words in Indonesian that are similar to English were taken from the Dutch.
Renata Pereira depends tho, some words are pronounced a bit differently but they sound really similar. There are also words that are even exactly the same as Dutch in terms of pronunciation and sometimes words
@@ImperialStreak I will be uploading a video about Dutch loanwords in Indonesian very soon! I tried to film the loanwords I could find in Indonesia and than look for the original words in the Netherlands. One correction: in Dutch it's "praktijk" with an "ij". What's called 'meises' in Indonesian is actually 'hagelslag' in Dutch. 'Muisjes' in Dutch are smaller white sprinkles made from aniseed and are eaten at someone's birth, either having the color blue (boy) or pink (girl).
ky kale that’s interesting, can’t wait to watch ur video. Well it’s kinda funny that Bahasa Indonesia tends to adopt words from Dutch and kinda modify the meaning of the words. Like bensin for example which means petrol, in Dutch benzeen denotes the chemical compound benzene. Also, the word traktir Indonesia means treating u something, as in a birthday or buying u smth for example but in Dutch, trakteer can also mean treating someone good or treating someone terribly aside from buying n giving him/her smth.
As an Indonesian who has lived his whole live in the Netherlands this is such as well made video! I'm planning to upload a similar video on the history of Kota Tua. For those wondering why Dutch isn't spoken in Indonesia? 1) Dutch education to Indonesians was very low 2) the Malay language, native to Sumatra, was already used as a lingua franca way before the Dutch and Portuguese came, and the Dutch didn't bother to educate Dutch as a language.
not only they never use Dutch or Portuguese's language, the government kind of forbid it for the "peasants" to learn it. my late grandma who was born in 1925 told me only the privileged learned Dutch. Also since the Dutch was in our country for so long, the people hated Dutch so much and eager to get rid of their traces. my grandma used to tell me stories and she really really hate the Dutch.
Exactly! Which for me is such an unfortunate thing for the dutch as they got a chance to have their language spoken by hundred of millions more people (like the Portuguese with Brazil) lol!

Um my grandpa could speak Dutch fluently. But he passed away on the 2007. I thought it's just some of the old generations who can speak Dutch. Thank you for visited our country. Stay safe and healthy.
Yes. Same! 😁 My grandparents who were born and lived in Indonesia their whole lives could (they passed away now) speak Dutch, they speak Dutch to each other, and even prayed in Dutch cos in the past they attended schools, whose classmates are majority Dutch whose parents were assigned in Indonesia. It's because in the colonialism era, the Dutch don't let commoners get education. Only the local sultans and local dukes and some really wealthy commoners whom they allowed to go to school. Among them, the men could go up to high school here and continue to university in Netherland; while women could only go up to elementary.

Museum Fatahillah is definitely my most favorite Museum in Jakarta. It worth to read the history of the museum itself. The square in front of the museum was used to be a place for public execution ( hanging, beheaded, squared by horses or fire squad ), so many deaths also in the underground prison where they filled in water inside the cell to make the prisoners suffered, lots of prisoners died from sickness and overcrowded cells. The middle square inside the museum was where hundreds of Chinese got captured and mass murdered by the Dutch. The history was grim but very interesting to learn. For the Dutch language, many people in older generation do speak or understand Dutch but they don’t pass it on to the younger generation, also there are a lot of Dutch words in the Bahasa Indonesia, same pronunciation but different spelling.
Thank you for the historical information. Unfortunate, but many invaders exercised the same actions. Glad we are beyond that in this age. Thank you for commenting and watching

Wow vlog yang sangat bagus terima kasih telah berkunjung
terima kasih banyak saya hargai😃😍
we, indonesian did not pick up dutch language because they did not force us to use it, they even use our region language, but we do use some of dutch words but we adapt them in our tongue. most of dutch colonies do not use dutch language. you have high spirit btw. a lot of smile and laugh. obrigado pelos seus videos (hopefully that's correct).
de nada amigo. 👍😀👍
@@RenataPereiraTV it's because in the colonialism era, the Dutch don't let commoners get education. Only the local sultans and local dukes and some really wealthy commoners whom they allowed to go to school. Among them, the men could go up to high school here and continue to university in Netherland; while women could only go up to elementary.
My grandparents who were born and lived in Indonesia their whole lives could (they passed away now) speak Dutch, they speak Dutch to each other, and even prayed in Dutch cos in the past they attended schools, whose classmates are majority Dutch whose parents were assigned in Indonesia.
Really enjoyed your vlog, can't wait for the next one! ❣️
Thanks so much 😊
Museum Fatahillah is definitely my most favorite Museum in Jakarta.
Renata Pereira agree with you 👍. Thank you for the vlog, I really enjoyed your vlog and great information and research 👍
Welcome to my home town, Jakarta. You really know history of Jakarta than me, amazing...always love your video because my day will be more colourfull after watch your vlog. Thank you

Indonesia is indeed dubbed a unique and tolerant country, but it is unexpectedly that the military is famously strong in the world. Welcome to Indonesia 💓💓💓💓💓
I get that Indonesians are fierce independents.
Next time you should go to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah when you in Jakarta. Taman Mini is a huge park that will show you all the culture in Indonesia. Indonesia has 34 province, and every province has a different culture, languange, food, even tradisional house and clothes. You can see all in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah = Mini Indonesia
Thank you for the suggestion. When we return to Jakarta we will definitely see.👍

Really, may I ask why its your favorite? Curious mind I have 😀👍
Weather so nice . cafe .nice people .too many places to visit not crowded city
@@RenataPereiraTV Bandung is a city with cool tropical weather since it's surrounded by mountains, so it's not hot like Jakarta. It's famous for its beautiful nature, culinary, culture, touristy places and it's been the most favorite weekend destination for Jakartans to getaway from Jakarta's busy life. Bandung really has a unique vibe and it's not far from Jakarta. Just for info, Renata. Stay safe.

love seeing how delightful you are! Such a gbood energy... Enjoy Indonesia... please come to Surabaya my city too
Ahhhhh! In fact we spent a long time in Surabaya editing videos. As things there tend to be cheaper than in Jakarta and Bali, we went there to focus on work, with no distractions, and we ended up feeling so welcome that we shot one vlog in Surabaya too. People were totally amazing in Surabaya ❤. The video is coming up after Bali.
Cant wait for surabaya vlog...
