A good way of creating a great boost for yeast if you haven't got any proper yeast is oxo cubes. Autolysed yeast is whats inside oxo cubes but you need a robust bit along with the fermented fruits like this guy mentioned. Once you've made a bowl of oxo cube drink with a full box of oxos depending on the size of the brew then stir until totally watery with no bits left over undissolved, once you have that then leave to stand for a good 2 hours at least until its gone cold and then what you'll find there in the bottom once you've carefully poured the fluid away is a greyish off white sediment laying there in the bottom, and don't use scolding hot water straight from the kettle use cooler water than a boil. Scrape that out until hardly any oxo water remains and then add that sediment to you're already lively fermenting fruits and orange juice and once you've nursed it to its full term you will have a good brew that gets you wrecked if you drank a few pints but you have to feed it and burp it like a big baby with red eyes that you aint sure if it wants to gargle at you or fight you lol. This aint an exact science sometimes people are careless and they add something either by choice or by no fault of their own a germ, some spore of mould from the place whatever or someone aint too clean it can literally destroy ya brew by one mistake and believe there is a lot of things that can do that to a prison brew no matter how skilled you are at it. There is always a chance it can go mouldy or do something worse to you if you drink it and its not ready or bad. I've heard some stupid tales of people putting chemicals inside it and alsorts of stuff. The brew that I drank last time I was inside prison was a powerful beast if ever I've known one, I don't have a problem at all in explaining how it went down.......in short I got shit ass drunk in HMP Hull over in Yorkshire and I pissed the bed 😂. No seriously man I never piss nor crap my pants if I'm drunk I've never pissed my bed ever drunk but I did that night and ya know what I don't care I think its funny we've all gotta piss the bed shit ass drunk before we die 😂 and bedsides I was doing both in my nappies for 2 or so years nobody gave a damn thing then lol. In australia we cant get sugar in prison we can inly get sweetener.. cant get yeast either so we substitute yeast with vegimite and sugar with soft drink
If you used your head, you would get a job in the kitchens and be near the bakers. High activity bakers yeast was available in every nick i ventured into, ( every morning ) . So we used the bakers yeast, potatoes, raisins, jam and sugar. In the pads there was a hot water pipe that passed through every pad, so with the mix in a gallon can, sitting on the hot pipe for just 3 days , the alcohol would blow your head off, ( so long as you stood it in cold water for an hour or so before drinking, to try kill the yeasts activity ) . I have also seen it made in old red fire extinguisher bottles, the only problem with them is , as the mix ferments it pressurizes the bottle and eventually squirts your precious juice out of the fire extinguisher outlet pipe. I saw a group of guys that wouldn't take advice on venting their 25liter tub, they stashed it on the roof of the screws changing room, ( HMP Haverigg ) by the morning it had exploded and drained through the roof of the changing room and been discovered.
I used to put a spoonful of marmite in a cup of hot water added to the start to help with the yeast & you cannot taste it at all. Also I used to sell mine by the litre and had squash bottles filled with the finished product hidden in the freezers that only the cleaners had access to and found out that after freezing a bottle solid you could still pour half a glass of clear liquid out because alcohol freezes at a much colder temperature, drinking the clear stuff was like drinking neat vodka.
