Great news in relation to the night of the living dead remake, Sony have been working on the unrated cut and are releasing it next year!!!! No news if just blu ray or will be 4K as well! So a great time to sell these crappy twilight discs!
@AnonymousFan3 from Tom Savini himself! He was doing a panel at 'frightmare in the falls' convention with Greg Nicotero, he talked about Night of the Living Dead and confirmed the news there.
I can guarantee that NOBODOY is putting out an extended unrated release. The movie was originally shot for Cannon films and Savini has said himself which is why he put out an entire book about it that ALL of the great things he wanted to do were not filmed because they didn't have the time as cannon wanted to get the film out ASAP and did not have the money. Savini said basically everything they filmed was used in the film, there is nothing extended or unrated to release
@lutherheggs451 there is gore footage missing from the theatrical release, this has been well documented and this is the footage being added to the release. It was also Tom himself who confirmed it's coming , I'd be inclined to take this news with a pinch of salt if anyone else had provided it but as it came from the directors own mouth I'm going to believe his confirmation.
@@jasonmorgan1543I learned this yesterday with a blatant “Region B” plastered everywhere, but it certainly played without issue in all of my A equipment.
Night 90 is literally my favorite movie of all time. I own three versions, the dvd, the US bluray with the poster art, and a bootleg with a ton of added special features. The biggest problem that has plagued this movie is the color correction and brightness, as none of the blurays seem to match the dvd release. The bootleg so far comes the closest but it’s still not perfect. Hopefully the recently announced 4K version by Tom himself will fix a lot of these issues and be THE definitive version.
@@MyFriendOfMisery13 the not talked about here Umbrella release is the identical version as theatrical. No matter what 4k comes out it won’t be as comparable to that release. Sony upscaled that scan, changed a bit of color and used dirt removal filters on their Blu-ray which didn’t help. They also tinkered with the framing a bit.
I recently got Patricia Tallman to sign my Twilight Time NOTLD bluray. I spoke to her about it. She told me she had never heard about this release or the controversy surrounding it.
I saw the original one probably around 1984 when I was about 4 years old and I was terrified that night, I kept imagining zombies walking past the window l o l. My dad took me to see the remake in 1990. I prefer the remake it has a creepier eerier vibe to me. Even to this day, it creeps me out if I try to watch it alone and I love horror.
I’ll take a pass on seeing that version! Ya Don’t mess with the colour. Such a banga of a remake 🙌🔥 So Christian, Since u have 3 copies… my Australian postal address is… 😂😛👍🏻 Great video mate, good info 🤟🏻
When this came out and people started getting on to Twilight Time about it they said that it was the Sony provided transfer that was approved by the director and the director of photography. Tom Savini came out and said he thought it looked great. They did let this one go OOP when it sold the full 3000 copies. The thing I like about the movie is the isolated score. I would turn off the color and my TV and watch this with the isolated score and it was pretty awesome.
I never had a problem with the Twilight Time release of NOTLD ‘90. Never understood the fuss. In fact, at the time, Tom Savini defended the release stating that this was how he originally intended the film to look. It’s Night of the Living Dead…not Day of the Dead. It should look darker. It gave the film a more eerie look with the darker blues. I seen this film on its opening day in the theater and fell in love with it instantly. I love my copy of this version and think it’s superior to the standard version. To each their own. This is a great release and deserves to be a collectors edition type item.
I remember Peacock having the Twilight Time master of Night of the Living Dead 1990 back in October of this year. I was quite surprised that they somehow got it, considering most streaming providers like Amazon Prime just had the Sony BD master. I don't know; Peacock is weird.
They had a lot of great releases. La Bamba, Sexy Beast, The Driver, Body Double, John Carpenter's Vampires, The Mechanic, Brian De Palma's The Fury, Rapid Fire with Brandon Lee, The Panic In Needle Park, State of Grace, The Blob, Murphy's Law. A lot of Paul Schrader and Sam Peckinpah films. Movies that didn't have a bluray release before. Also quite a few found their way on Criterion eventually like Chilly Scenese of Winter. Some had a lot of special features and some had none. Small company whose owner passed away sadly.
@Teddy-t5h the twilight time release has a lot of special features and a pretty good transfer. It doesn't need to be on 4K tho it's nice to know it is. I'll keep my TT release.
I have it in my digital library and it has either transfer depending on which service you watch it on. (I wrote a more detailed post but I think it was annoyingly automatically deleted because I dropped too many brand names)
For me the 1990 is way better than the original. Barbara drove me crazy in the original screaming through the entire movie. The remake fits in aesthetically better with Dawn and Day I find. Looks like it belongs in there more than the original.
I personally think that Tom Savini’s Night of the Living dead remake came out at a time where remakes were a good thing. Look at The Thing, The Fly and The Blob. All came out around the same 10 year period and I think all were great flicks. It’s only in the mid 90s and beyond when remakes started to become worse because it became more about cashing in on the originals fame to sell a movie instead of making remakes cause the filmmaker loves the original and wants to do their own twist to them.
This was my first and only Twilight Time release I bought when it was new. I wanted to ask Tom what went wrong at a HorrorHound but he was suspiciously absent the year I went. I did a Disc to Digital upgrade when Wal*Mart had a VUDU promotion only paid $6 for the DVD and proper HD version.
I originally bought the Twilight Time version and after watching it I was not devasted in the picture quality. Now this came out in 2012 and the Sony release came out in 2018 so we did not have anything to compare the Twilight Times release to.
I'm in the "Savini's remake is better then the original" although I am still kind of iffy on that, since I really do miss a lot of things from the original film and I think the original still does certain things better. I always miss when ever I watch the remake the TV stuff, where in the remake the guy drops the TV.
I don't really see it as Savini's remake..Sure he directed it, because George had to go and make The Dark Half but he did write it and they did say he was on set a few times. So he directed Romero's script for Cannon Films
It’s funny that it’s also a limited numbered release I didn’t know it was a bad version until I bought it now it’s sitting on my shelf sealed next to the umbrella version 😂
I still have this, and I was pretty angry, but kept it. Initially I thought I was misremembering the movie. A quick search proved otherwise. I also remember TT saying that they had run these changes by someone in the production, but I don’t remember who. It’s probably not true anyway.
That's the thing with the original, it's like "okay, here's main character. Now we're going to make her quickly irrelevant, and uh, I guess the black guy is the hero now." The remake fixed that, but without making it a ridiculous girl boss movie. It just felt like you were naturally following the arc of the main character.
I bought this when it was released, it had the "blue tint of doom". I remember watching it & saying, "why does it look like shit?!". I pulled out my dvd copy & watched it & figured out instantly that they added some blue tint filter. I actually really enjoyed the twilight time stuff. The fright night you show is actually the 2nd version they did of the movie, as the 1st one sold out so quick. I remember Christine selling out really quick too. I think the twilight time version of "Blue Lagoon" is still the only official blu ray release the u.s ever got of it.
It became a silly thing to do suddenly in the early 2000s, it's still persisting in post production to this day for current movies and even worse; messing with older movies and classics. As for this movie, I have the Umbrella release. Generally speaking, I like bright movies the brighter the better and releases too over those drenched in darkness.
I kept my Twilight Time copy even though I upgraded to the Umbrella release and then the Sony release. Sometimes I like watching it with the blue tint for some reason.
I remember getting that Twilight Time blu-ray as soon as it came out and being disappointed in that blue tint, but it was the only blu at that time, and it didn't bother me too much as it really only affected the daytime scenes. I got that Umbrella blu when it came out as well, and that's my go to now since it has the proper color timing, and I've always loved how the movie starts out in the late afternoon. I hope Sony does a UHD eventually.
I remember when the Twilight Time release dropped, and the furor among the fans was intense. When I saw the first screencaps, I was horrified. IIRC, there was talk that Savini was aware of this transfer and signed off on it, but I’m not sure if that’s right. I did stream this a while back on Tubi I believe (maybe the Roku channel) and I’m pretty sure it was the Twilight Time copy. The day for night begins in the cemetery and gradually gets worse by the time Barbara reaches the farmhouse, and it doesn’t clear up until the ending daytime scenes. I’m not sure if it’s still available to stream there however.
Looking forward to a 4k steelbook version!!! Hate the twilight release. I buy physical and digital and unknowingly Xbox [microsoft] had the twilight release. I thought my tv or Xbox crapped the bed. Did research and found out. Own 2 versions of dvd, one digital on Microsoft, one digital on apple [correct version], and the Sony white cover blu ray.
Last time I watched this was a couple of years ago and I believe I rented it on iTunes. I even remember joking that it's somehow more black and white than the original. It being a bad coloring makes a lot of sense now.
I have it on iTunes and right now it’s brighter transfer on iTunes and darker transfer on moviesanywhere. I think both work well and it’s interesting to compare them.
Currently, I find 1968 and 1990 to be equal as they both have some scenes that are essential to their movies, that are not in both movies. I have the 2006 DVD currently, due to seeing those blurays talked about in the movie's Facebook group, so basically waiting for the next physical release to come out, but might consider the Sony Blu-ray as that is like the DVD but better.
I’ll clear some stuff up. The film was color timed via a phone call I believe with the DP. Savini found out about it and said it wasn’t too bad. You brought up Romero and Russo they would have had zero say in anything with this. Ultimately it’s the studio / DP’s call. Also the Sony Blu-ray you keep showing is absolutely garbage. It’s misframed and softened horribly because it was digitally scrubbed. The definitive HD release is from Umbrella. It’s exactly as it was in theaters in 1990, just the scan is a tiny bit of dirt.
Romero and Russo would absolutely have a say in it, Romero wrote the script. The reason Savini was asked to direct it was because Romero had to go and make The Dark Half but he was on set a few times and Cannon Films who the movie was originally produced by absolutely wanted Romero's thoughts. From what people who have worked on it have said is that they asked if George was around every time they showed up
@ 2 completely different things. Again they would have zero to do with the Blu-ray, I literally know people involved. During production of the film yes, but the Blu-ray? That’s on the DP. Same as why Dawn was recolored by the DP.
Night of the Living Dead 1968 is one of my all-time favorite horror movies. However, Night of the Living Dead 1990 is one of my top favorites of any genre.
I never owned a single twilight time release, they came and went too fast, and i refuse to pay scalper prices. Plus pretty much everything they put out that i was interested in got re-released anyway...
Night of the Living Dead 1990 was the first DVD I ever owned. I still have it. I used to have the Twilight Time Blu-ray (bought it from eBay for $50.) I gave it to a friend, after I got those other two releases. The TT release is not bare-bones. It has Tom Savini's commentary, but not the making of/interview documentaries. The later two releases do (Umbrella has even more.) So, the TT release became useless to me. I don't even remember if I noticed that it looked different.
I used to love zombies but now I'm not so much of a fan because the genre is played out. In saying that I do have the Sony version and will never sell it. It's an amazing film.
The first blu ray copy of the 1990 night of the living dead picked it up a couple of years ago and found it was rather enjoyable didnt know there was another blu ray release
wow you mean you didnt had any clue about the NOTLD tom savinis remake in till years and years later, wow are you new at this, I knew about this in fangoria 97 and saw it in the Premiered!
I still have mine. It’s horrid. I’ll keep it with the rest of my Twilight Time horror titles. I have a complete set. Vampires, Fright Night etc. Watching the movie I stream it through Vudu. Looks fine there.
I dont know which is more lame. The night time filter on the '90 remake, or the clearly recently filmed footage shoehorned (crowbarred) into more recent releases of the original.
I heard they also did a version of Dawn of the Dead and it had cockerels "cock-a-doodle-dooing" through the movie to make it sound like it was always Dawn..
When hbo max was released in México notld versión was the one with the night time and i was one of the people get angry with the change because the movie is my favorite since i was a child . The movie is no longer in the platform but i guess what version is in rent in Amazon prime. Did you watch return of the living dead new movie trailer from next year.
NOTLD Twilight edition is also known as the Blue Tint edition. I hated how they butchered that release, so glad that a year later we got the proper high quality version.
I love this remake, agreed might be better than original its so good. Must watch. I only have the iTunes version. Hope it comes to 4K but I probably should just get the Blu-Ray (good versions).
Great remake but the score is awful and i understand the budget didn't allow for a proper composer. Tom Savini made the color timing change because he felt the movie was too bright. Sony altered the contrast for their Blu Ray as well LOL
Sony and Savini altered the color timing because it was too bright and because of the problems with the negative. It was also used to hide dirt and scratches.....It was a Cannon Films movie until they went out of business and Columbia pictures picked up the distribution
This film isn't all that special so idk why ppl are about the quality of this movie!!!! 90% of ppl prefer the original masterpiece over this movie which the remake is just ok at best!!!! Id rather see a upgraded colorized version of the original because the one they made is horrible it will cause ppl to have seizures with all the colors flickering!!!!! Anyways i love Tony Todd in this film but otherwise its just pretty cheesy but still enjoyable but it literally just makes me want to go watch the original Dead Trilogy lolz
Bro they remade the blob in 1988 and invasion of the body snatchers amongst many others. Remakes have ALWAYS been a thing dating back to the early 1900’s. Frankenstein is a remake for the love of god
I have the umbrella collector’s edition of NOTLD which has both 1968 and 1990 versions on blu ray. Ltd to 1500 maybe? But I’m perfectly happy with this edition as I get the best of both worlds.
I have a DVD release of "The Cube" and the contrast is completely messed up and nearly unwatchable. All the lighter colors are overexposed and all the dark tones are grey. It also looks like it's zoomed in. You'll try to fix it with your TV but you just can't fix it, too much damage in the actual footage due to whatever destructive process they used.
RIP Tony Todd. Love seeing him in horror movies.
NOTLD 1990 is a great remake
One of the best... But put together Romero, Russo , and Savini it's a jackpot in the works

You cannot make a movie shot in daytime and dusk into night. You can change the color-timing but tinting the whole picture does not make it "night".
Night of the living dead was sooo scary growing up .
Guy scanning the original film: "Huh, the title is the NIGHT of the living dead, so... guess these should all be graded as night scenes"

I never bought The Twilight Time release of NOTLD (1990). But thanks 2 Pizowell & some other collectors told viewers never buy that release.
NOTLD 1990 is great! I have the standard DVD print you showed everyone. I think it's on par with the original, with some nice plot twists.
I still have mine. It’s horrid. I’ll keep it with the rest of my Twilight Time horror titles. I have a complete set. Vampires, Fright Night etc. Watching the movie I stream it through Vudu. Looks fine there.
Unfortunately, this version is the one on Tubi...unwatchable. I brought out the 90's DVD to watch it properly on Halloween
The 4k import of Ref Sonya looks like that.
Sony changed the color timing.
I dont know why ....but i have two of these releases along with fright night ist release's
I have the umbrella dual release of both films on bluray
I dont know which is more lame. The night time filter on the '90 remake, or the clearly recently filmed footage shoehorned (crowbarred) into more recent releases of the original.
My favorite as a kid
I don't necessarily think the 1990 night of the living Dead is the better movie but I do has the better pacing
Tom savini's 1990 night of the living Dead is better than the original😊
Loved when you said,
"Exspecially." Hahaha! 🤣
@ I didn’t know the Cannon part that’s amazing
@@lutherheggs451 You know what would hide film damage? Rescanning the negatives or simply using Adobe.
I wish they'd come out with what Tom truly made a Savini cut if you will
This film isn't all that special so idk why ppl are about the quality of this movie!!!!
In the future when a movie uses cgi would you tell us
The word is *_eSpecially_* - NOT ekspecially...
ua-cam.com/video/Nuy4NJrosZg/v-deo.html Christian can you tell me if there is any truth to this guy's video?
1990 remake doesn't even come close to touching the 1968 original
The 1990 remake is 100 times better than the 1968 version. It's not even close.
I freaked out finding out they are remaking Return of the living dead 😬😬😬😬
I have a DVD release of "The Cube" and the contrast is completely messed up and nearly unwatchable. All the lighter colors are overexposed and all the dark tones are grey. It also looks like it's zoomed in.
You'll try to fix it with your TV but you just can't fix it, too much damage in the actual footage due to whatever destructive process they used.
Ain't no X in especially.
