I think Barras is a star defender in the sense of defending and intercept marks. He was rarely beaten over a three year period when the Eagles were getting thrashed. If not for guys like Barras (as McGovern was injured for much of that time) the Eagles would have lost by far more significant margins.
In 2022 against Freo in Round 22 he had 12 marks and 9 were intercepts. Freo won by 24 points and kicked 9.17 but as a freo supporter he was so frustrating because he was just a beast in defence and marked anything that came anywhere near him.
@@craigaston He has been doing that for 4 years plus with McGovern and has really saved the Eagles from even bigger thumpings. Its tough being a defender at West Coast. That's why when I've heard fans criticising Eagles defenders I've thought it was crazy talk. The mids and small forwards have lacked accountability.
Barrass has to be in the top category by your own criteria of including what the player adds to the team they have gone to. A big, tall key back was the most glaring hole in the Hawthorn list. All year they had players like Jarman Impey and Blake Hardwick playing significant time on key forwards. When Frost went down for the final against Port, they had to bring in a VFL level talent and Georgiadis found/created gaps everywhere.
I reckon Macrae is a better pick up than everyone is giving him or Saints credit for. We want to focus on the draft which we are doing, and he's only 30. People forget that players still perform well for a few yrs after 30 these days. So many acting like he is no good now when he just was being played out of position at Dogs and as sub. We lose Ross & Crouch & put in Macrae. It's an upgrade in the midfield & he will help the youth coming up.
Love the channel mate, great insight & analysis. I think you should up your production value and you might well find your way into the official media system. Keep it going buddy.
Agree with you on most of these, but Stringer goes down a tier due to age (30) and a one year deal. But Haynes will be 33 in May and is on... you guessed it... a one year deal. I don't support either club, that just stuck out like a sore thumb to me.
Cant disagree with much, some may have issue with battle being labelled gun so soon which is fine but i do think he turns into one this year down back with Barrass. Sicily a big watch to go forward.
You guys are acting like daniels is over 30 and has only like 2 years left. Thats just plain wrong. He’s 28 and in the finals loss against hawthorn he was bulldogs second highest rated player on ground. And you guys are clueless enough to say “hes on his way out” shows how little ya’ll know abt footy. Perryman is a relatively unproven player who I see struggling at collingwood witht heir list depth. Time will tell but you cant tell me daniels is on a downward spiral and only has 1-2 years left bc thats stupid. Go watch his games this year and come back to me
@@blickyspiderman shows how little you know abt caleb daniel. He went all australian and got bulldogs b&f in 2020. So your comment is stupid and misinformed
Baker and Graham are big guns for West Coast. Why? Because the Eagles are lacking so much in that sort of player. Eagles need the accountability, leadership, aggression, wanting to tackle, physical presence, clearance players, depth, competitiveness etc... So for the Eagles very important to stop the club falling into the abyss. they need to keep draftees and need to attract new recruits and free agents over future years. If they drop to bottom place for the next three years as all their stars retire, then they will find it really hard to attract and keep players and to work their way back up.
Caleb Daniel's more talented and accomplished than anyone in the gun category, he just got squeezed out of a team that was in need of unveilling younger talent, he will add far more than any of those seven guys.
He has grown to be a quality player as a key back they take time! Look at hogan at gws! Its taken him 8 years but once they find there feet they take off! I agree he is 2nd in ratings at whatever he lables it gun star champion ect! He is a quality ball user and thats hawks dna! I can see why you would think that labled as a GUN! But in my ratings i have champions then guns then good and average! I have him as a gun!
Maybe not gun but at age where he is in prime to turn into one. Id rather Josh Battle than a Ben Mckay everyday of the week, Josh uses the ball much better.
He isn't but might become better. It is apples and oranges though. Peatling does most of his best work on the inside. Perryman gets more outside ball, more meters and is a better kick.

I was about to say the same thing@@craigaston
Even if Caleb Daniel doesn't have a great career at Kangas the fact him and Xerri will be sporting helmets together keeps him at decent for me
The new Angus and gawn

By this assessment, the Crom had an absolute field day at trade period. Lost nobody, gained 2 guns and peatling
1 mans opinion tho
Totally agree on Shai
Lukosius has to be a gun,his 2022-23 under Dew were pretty good years ,he averages nearly 2 goals a game also
Crazy how people get the words gun and spud confused with each other

My math was bad on the Haynes call. He was 1992 born but I worked it out as though he was 1994. My bad!!
@@TrueFootyAFL all good mate, appreciate the response. Love the channel and your work!
You need one additional category: No Hope. That category is required for Konstanty and perhaps Tom Campbell as well.

Putting perryman in “gun” and caleb daniel as a decent pick up is wild
He has way more time and versatility than Daniel. Whatever tier list you create, Perryman is an upgrade on Daniel every day of the week
Correct, Daniels on his way out. Maybe a short term😊
It’s not 2016 anymore

I think Richmond will most likely have a firm grip on the wooden spoon for the next few years.
@@gustaaf1892 they will need to manage their age demographics and leadership or they'll become the north melbourne of the future.
Everyone always sooks for the compo this year when last year was even worse... Ben McKay compo pick #3 🤯
great cover!
I would rate Perryman ahead of Barass. Barass is a very good key defender, but not elite. Firmly in gun for mine.
crows did a good then?
I didn't see Sam Day in your list?
He will move as a Delisted free agent and the window for that opens Nov 1 from memory. So technically right now he is without a club
Houston, then Bolton are the best on the list.

Than Battle to Hawthorn? No chance lol. Look at the defenders battle is playing with now as oppose to at saints.
@@S10xxxx What are you talking about?
@@S10xxxx Battle is a decent defender at best, he is definitely not a gun, Hawks paid overs for him (salary). Barrass is a star talent absolutely.
Jack MacRae is a 3-time all Australian. How many other pick-ups have that pedigree? None !!
Doesn't count for much in 2025
I dunno about Battle being called a gun off 1 season

@@S10xxxx what u mean gun as age? He definitely is one now.... put together a couple of rlly good seasons
Probs a top 15 defender in the league
Peatling is heavy and will dominate 🔥 Baker, Battle and Perryman are role players bro not guns
I think your underrating Haynes a tad
Haynes is 32 and spent most of the year in the VFL. He's cooked
Noble and Daniel’s should be higher than that
Nope, both c+ players at best.
Noble won't be in suns best 22 in 12 months
Peatling is better than Perryman

Jack Lukousis has gone backwards since 2022.
Definitely Overrated
Lukousis.
Putting lukosious in gun, has to be without a doubt your worst take on any afl player in the history of this channel. Lukosious is a spud
Agreed one of the best kicks with one of the worst attitudes
